Super low Quest XP since today

The quest XP rewards in the old world are super low since the release of WOTLK last night.

I know that Joyous Journey buff is gone, but the Quest XP is way lower than prior to the Joyous Journey buff.

Examples:

  • The Bloodsail Buccaneers: should be 6000 XP but got 2400 XP
  • The Captains Chest: should be 3150 XP but got 1950 XP
  • Message in a Bottle (1): should be 3600 XP but got 1950 XP
  • Message in a Bottle (1): should be 4800 XP but got 1450 XP

From my observation quests that have been accepted prior to WOTLK release are not affected.

These are the results from my level 50 alt. Haven’t tested TBC or WOTLK areas yet.

Someone else noticed the same?

May be a result of the no exp gain from outland quests past lvl 70 thingy they did?

Joyous journey ended and its back to the pointless grindey yet again.

It saddens me quite a lot, since i have lot IRL stuff going on. Not so much ingame time per week. With 50% buff it felt okey to level up… But for now, why bother.

Quest XP is bugged, it’s way lower than before the Joyous Journey buff.

the reason i quit 2

I wonder if this is a 1-70 bug related to JJ somehow being removed twice over, or if it’s global.

Would really suck if exp 70-80 has been cut in half.

Imagine if you were forced to grind mobs for hours to get enough EXP to continue a quest chain because you’re not high level enough to continue it even after exhausting its prerequisites AND all the quest available to your level in northrend.

There’s a reason you get so low XP.

These are lvl 42-ish quests, you are 8 levels above the recommended lvl range.

Meaning these are super easy for you.

I recommend moving on to an area of your level such as Un Goro or Searing Gorge, see if those provide proper XP.

Captains Chest is a lvl 47 quest. It should give full quest xp until lvl 52 and drop at lvl 53+. I’m level 50 so something’s bugged imo.

Questie said 42+ for me (because of elite).
Bloodsail 41
Message in a Bottle… maybe 43?

Hm so maybe Wowhead is just wrong on Captains Chest level? Thanks for clarifying.

Yes, it is - but even Questie isn’t faultless, the Hellfire starter qline should be for lvl 58-59 and says 61.

It is however, quite precise on recommendations.

Looking at Wowhead it seems that at least two of those quests have been leveled down between Classic and TBC.

Message in a Bottle Classic: Level 45
Message in a Bottle TBC/WOTLK : Level 42

The Captains Chest Classic: 47
The Captains Chest TBC/WOTLK: 42

Oddly enough the minimum level requirement (35) hasn’t changed.

Quests give you full amount of XP as long as you are within 5 levels of recommended level for given quests. Then, every level you are above the 5-level range will reduce amount you gain from the quest.

There is a slider below each quest description on wowhead where you can setup your level and see how much xp does it give to YOUR level.

And looking at your data it is right. According to wowhead slider, Message in a Bottle should give 1450 XP to a lvl 50 character.

xp is lower because xp req has lowered, number crunching.

Blizzard will realize its mistake when we all have quit and Wrath is dead. They don’t seem to care about their own game. They ended the xp buff and no RFD yet
