SurvHunter, Venthyr or Necro?

Hello, right now I’m playing as necro survival but I saw many ppl running venthyr, is venthyr a better option for arenas? Does it deal more dmg? I’m new to the hunter and really wonder if I should switch to venthyr for 3s, not planning playing 2s, made char exclusively to play with friends.
Also does switching LVL 80 renown covenant resets renown?

Well, my surv hunter is only 240 ILvl, but flayed shot offers some nice and reliable extra dmg and the venthyr legendary effect also feels really strong.

If you haven’t already played the other covenant on a char you start from scratch for the new one but you can use the boost to renown 40 and there are now many ways to level up fast.

But if i switch to venty how long till I can switch it back to necro?

There is no cooldown for that anymore. You can just skip back to back since 9.1. Ofc you have to level up every new covenant per character. But your renown on every covenant for that char gets saved so switching around is no problem.

Survival can be played both as necro and venthyr. The difference between them is : Necro has more survival and it’s abil increases your pshy dmg on the target meaning you can time your burst windows around death chakram which basically is a dot that with Unity fires an explosive shot that can hit 2 targets at once so if u time that with burst u can make a pretty good one shot combo. Venthyr on the other note feeels more fluid as it’s rotation chanages due to the fact that flayed shot applies a dot on the target that can proc kill shots with extra damage which cost no focus so you’re spending a global that deals huge damage, with no focus cost while regenerating focus. Also with unity( meaning the covenant lego) Flayed shot also applies a bleed on the target and to other targets around it over 6 secons which is alot of pressure and deals alot of damage specially if you get a crit on Kill shot. The dot (Flayed Shot) can be dispelled( if u run into a hunter i’d sugest you use it on the pet because he can remove it with craven) so if it’s dispelled = no kill shot procs. Venthyr is reliable on haste break points for the extra ticks meaning if u hit the following haste break points Flyed shot get’s an extra tick : 11.12 - 22.23 - 33.34 haste which results in having a bigger chance for more kill shot procs. Venthyr works very well with a healer as it’s amazing constant damage ( necro can work too with a heal no doubt) and Necro can work really good in 2 x dps scenarios as it can save you in very tight situations ( Venthyr can work aswell with 2 x dps so don’t get me wrong but it depends very much on the skill of the player). As a conclusion take survival not as a melle because you have 2 things that hit melle: Raptor strike and your auto attacks and raptor strike can be also turned into a ranged abil with Eagle. I’d sugest this: try them both ,see how they fit, i personally play venthyr with a healer and necro when i queue in 2s as 2 x dps, and in time u’ll figure what works for you as in how you feel the class by doing damage with it and surviving. If you dont have a lvl 80 covenant already then i sugest u get it to lvl 80 then get the other to lvl 80 aswell becasue this is going to be a 1 year long patch so u have time to test and try them both. Both are strong, both are good i just mentioned a few things so u get the difference.

venthyr is a lot better than necro.

If you are playing 2s; surv. has alot of control and FD legendary can help with the survivability issues. Hence I would say go for the ventry one as it is more damage overall.

When you get 4-set as survival, necro survival will probably be viable since youll have a much higher burst window (fish for a 80% bomb, go cc-chain, use burst in a stun). It can work great with thug and jungle and to some extent even other classes.

Venthyr is best overall until 4-set, at which point it will prob still be best but necro will be more viable.
