I know that when you switch factions with a character you loose all completed quests related to the original faction.
But I headed that Blizzard keeps the data of those quests completed in case the player switches back to the original faction (for example Alliance → Horde → Alliance)
Back in WOTLK I switched my old main from Alliance to Horde, but before doing it I completed Loremaster achievement with all alliance quests from Pre-Cataclysm. I also completed most Pre-Cataclysm Horde quests after switching.
Today I have the transmogs from those old quests but only Horde and Neutral ones.
With the upcoming TWW changes for transmog I am temped to switch back my old main to Alliance.
Anyone has tried this in the past? Did you keep the completed quests from the original faction, specially Pre-Cataclysm ones? Did you receive transmog from those quests?
You don’t lose completed quests. You lose quests in your quest log. You may not be eligible for some quest rewards as the other faction, so no transmog, but that’s a different issue, the quest itself is still completed and will still be completed if you swap and swap again.
Generally speaking if you collected an appearance on one side that the other faction couldn’t use, if you swapped back then you’d be able to use it again.
The bigger problem I think is when you swapped. That was prior to the transmog system being implemented, so it may be that you won’t be able to use transmogs from early quests because you hadn’t actually collected the appearance at the time the system was live. That would especially be true for where quests gave you a choice of items, it simply wouldn’t know what item you picked.
Tricky question to answer.
Pre-cata quests don’t exist any more and transmog only came out in Cata. The achievements have also changed from “complete x quests in this zone” to completing the storylines listed in the zone map.
It is entirely possible you will have the achievement but all the quests will be available because they are in fact different quests. You will not relearn anything unless you have completed those quests after Cata because they won’t have gone into your transmog database.
I swapped to Alliance for WoD because I simply felt the central focus of the expansion, our garrison was awful for Horde and very nice for Alliance. Trivial as it may have been to others that was my reason. I went back to Horde around the time HFC dropped.
A lot of the quests I previously completed as Horde are available again. The thing I’ve had the most trouble with both swapping to Alliance and then swapping back was the Argent tournament. Both times required intervention from a senior GM.
You don’t really lose anything with this process but there is no real way of knowing exactly what will or wont be affected by changing, you just have to deal with whatever the fall out is
When you complete a quest today you recieve all eligible transmog from the rewards on a compled quest, even the rewards you didn’t pick. Including rewards your class can transmog but you can’t choose (like agility polearm for paladins)
When Transmog was added into the game the system granted retroactively transmog from rewards from all previously completed quests. And they did it again when white and grey items were added to transmog. I have checked and I received transmog from Pre-Cataclysm Horde and Neutral quests.
I also aware that the transmog retroactive system only grants rewards based on the list of rewards that Blizzard have for those old quests. I am aware that some Pre-Cataclysm quests were changed in TBC and WOTLK so there are Vanilla rewards that were not available in the last version of the quest before Cataclysm. Retroactive transmog does not work for does rewards.
Even if Achievements have been changed due to Cataclysm all those new quests have a different quest Id. The original Pre-Cataclysm quests had a different ID and still can query Blizzard server for information about them, including what quests I completed and what not (I used that info to search in Classic things I missed, but that is another topic). Of course for me it didn’t work for my old Alliance quests.
I am aware my character won’t have completed any Alliance quests available today because those are from Cataclysm and he isn’t Alliance since WOTLK. I have no problem in doing those quests again today. My interest is only in be able to receive removed transmog from quests that I know I did, like this one from a PreCataclysm Paladin quest exclusive for the Alliance that I am sure I did back in 2007
Well you are better informed than anyone else, it seems. Ht seems to confirm that it won’t retroactively add them now.
I do know that constantly changing faction does mess up a lot though, more each time. It’s caused me to lose some interest in my character because they’re no longer a completionist… some quests become available but not completable. Some reps go back to 0. It’s… weird.
