Sylvanas hated Arthas because he killed her and bound her to his will…
She then broke free along with thousands of other Forsaken during the time Arthas was temporarily weakened when the Frozen Throne was cracked and before he wore the helmet of dominance…
Arthas was killed and Sylvanas then committed suicide only to be risen by Arthas’s own Val’kyr which where clearly commanded by the Jailer and Sylvanas then allied herself with the Jailer and commit so much genocide…
Now it seems to me that Sylvanas “character” has either been retconned or she going to turn out to be the hero…
The Jailer is basically the Super Lich King, and it seems completely unrealistic that Sylvanas would die yet again, only to be risen and to serve the Jailer whom is a super version of the man she hated so much, that upon his death she killed herself…
Or her hatred for the Lich King and now the Super Lich King, the Jailer has made her created such an ellobrate plan to kill the Jailer, much like Arthas and for her to take his place as the Jailer of the maw to ensure beings like the Lich King happens again…
Sylvanas is seeming going to become the jailer of the Jailer, just like Illidan became the jailer of Sargeras… Either that or Bolvar / Arthas is going to become the new Jailer as they’re the only two being that have actively resisted the Jailers powers…
Not quite. Instead of the soul of Sylvanas, the soul of Annhylde took her place.
Not sure about that. In Edge of Night val’kyrs claim that they chose to serve the Lich King just like Sylvanas did (just like Sylvanas did not have the option, same is applicable to them). Also, why would they hide info from Sylvanas (like the ritual used to empower Nathanos), or have any doubts about brining her back after Godfrey’s shot?
The dev use “gameplay first” approach, so whatever will happen, will be to fit their vision of the gameplay mechanics they want to add, raids they want to show, etc.
What her role will be is not clear, because we don’t know much about any of the entities in this story: Jailer, pantheon of Death, Sylvanas, Elune. All are unknown in terms of motivations and relationships. So, anything might be possible.
Good point, an interesting question is: Does the Super Lich King controls Sylvanas against her will? We will find out eventually but I think he does.
About BFA being a plan of Sylvanas to defeat the Jailer I cant think any hints about that and “I have to kill you to save you” doesn’t seems a good story material.
There is a Apothecary in the Plaguewood that says he used to admire Sylvanas, but after the Lich Kings fall she changed, I am beginning to wonder if every time Sylvanas died, every time that the Val’kyr brought her back, it made her easier for the Jailer to subtly influence. Just like when Arthas was subtly manipulated into becoming an agent of the Jailer, the moment he picked up Frostmourne he was being subtly influenced by the Jailer, up until he took the Helm of Domination and was dominated. So every time Sylvanas died she entered that dark abyss and the Val’kyr brought her back but every time she was brought back she was also a little bit easier to influence and slowly but surely she was ¨Dominated¨ in a way and Sylvanas being Sylvanas still thinks herself as in control. To me that makes sense atleast.
whatever her end is in shadowlands i think most people will not be satisfied which is not unsuprising, sylvanas is no longer a character you can relate to and has just become a mustache swirling villain.
I will be happy for the lore team to move onto more interesting characters tbh
