Tab targeting broken

I’m not sure when this started since I’ve only just rejoined for Shadowlands, however Tab targeting, despite being set in the hotkey menu as “target nearest enemy” has a really annoying habit of targeting the furthest away mobs (even those not in combat with you) instead of mobs right in front of you that you ARE in combat with.

I’ve accidently ninja-pulled multiple times now because I just try to cycle through the mobs in combat to multi-dot and it just tabs over to a different pack behind it and pulls them. This just completely disables my ability to effectively play.

I’ve unboud and rebound my tab to "Target nearest enemy’ multiple times to try and fix it, I’ve changed it to “Target Scan enemy” but that didn’t feel quite comfortable because there are some objects in wow with huge hitboxes that block the scan from targeting other things.

Please fix this, it didn’t use to be like this…

Tab targeting selecting random enemies has been an issue since Legion. It can even select enemies that are actually behind you, which is very annoying.

It’s been reported as a bug many many many times, and still remains unfixed, which makes me believe its by design.

I’m having the exact same problems. I have ‘target nearest enemy’ keybound to tab, and the game still targets mobs far away from me, despite me fighting a group directly in front. I now can’t tab quickly through a group without the possibility of pulling other things I don’t want.

Worse still, it can target yellow neutral mobs from far away, pulling them into the fight.

i’ve been unintentionally overrun recently, despite being quite careful with my pulls.

Glad it’s not just me.

Please Blizzard look into this and sort it out.

These problems have been here since forever, at MoP they actually fixed it, but later patch broke it again.

@Madblade - I think it’s noticeably worse now.

tab scan sometimes ignore mobs in front of me especially if the terrain is a gradient (and in shadowlands that is EVERYTHING, please more hills and slopes in maldraxxus there’s certainly not enough). and tab targeting itself is about as useful now as a chocolate fire engine.

these need to be looked at, because currently they’re more broken than they have ever been… and it’s embarrassing, i may have to resort to some sort of addon because frankly the blizzard default is terrible.

I’m leveling a shadowpriest and I’ve had a few issues with tab targeting as well
I’m in combat with 5 enemies, tab target cycles between 2 enemies I’m in combat with and 1 a good 30 yards away I’m not in combat with, the other three in combat enemies are not touched unless I turn my camera, it doesn’t seem to be consistent either, really annoying because I want tab target to reliably cycle targets for dot applications and I have to resort to clicking enemies to be able to do that now

After some searching I found a console command that basically makes tab target work the way I want it to work which is /console TargetNearestUseOld 1
This setting is lost on both UI reload and relog

So far it as consistently NOT targeted out of combat mobs while in combat as well as cycle through all the mobs I’m fighting without me having to mess with the camera

Maybe someone more tech savvy can make an addon that just runs this command on reload ui and logon

they keep changing it every expansion, there’s even a smart targeting option in the bindings. Problem with this, it doesn’t handle terrain at all… very well. And shadowlands. well. terrain is something they thought the game needed more off.

more slopes than my high school maths exam.

so the whole thing is a joke, i mean you can always play classic and the targeting is far superior… but that’s not what we want expansions to do, i mean shadowlands is bad enough, but the targeting is unbearable, i’d rather mouse click than use bindings. i mean that’s an issue.
