Tags or notes for Mount Journal?

Hi!

I’m looking for a way to add tags or notes to the mount journal, so I can search or filter by custom labels. Rematch provides something similar for the battle pet journal. I was hoping someone over here might have an idea, as my research has provided little results thus far. :-/

I’m not really aware of such an addon either, though i can’t help but wonder what you would use it for ?

The notes per pet in rematch are obviously mostly there to write down notes about the pet’s combat abilities (like “this pet works well together with Chrominius” or “The Black Claw ability works well together with the Hunting Party ability”), with Mounts there isn’t really such a use case (that i can see).

.

The closest addon i can think of is Mount Journal Enhanced, but i don’t think it provides notes (though you could ask the developer to consider adding it, or have a crack at it yourself).

Thanks Sandsh! I’m looking for some way to preserve what mount works best with a specific class / race / transmog / pet combination, actually, lol. (I know I’m probably taking transmog a little too seriously! ) That’s why I thought adding labels to the mount collection would be helpful, then I could just filter/search for keywords.

I actually looked into Mount Journal Enhanced. Saving favourites per character would have been a great asset. Then, at least, I’d only have to check a smaller and preselected number of mounts for a potential match.

Unfortunately, saving favourites individually doesn’t seem to be working. I’m mostly running two copies of WoW at the same time, and whenever change something on one copy, it affects the other…

Ahye, well that makes sense then.

That is odd, do you use the same username/password for both accounts or separate ones for each ?

It’s two licences under the same account. I’m starting the copies from the same folder, if that makes a difference - hasn’t been an issue with any other addon so far. :frowning:

Thanks for your help troubleshooting, btw!

Your welcome, and ahyea that makes sense. I have no experience with multiple wow accounts behind 1 login, but i figured it likely would be related to something like that.

According to the .TOC file it only stores settings per Character
## SavedVariablesPerCharacter: MountJournalEnhancedSettings
It uses no account wide storage at all, which is indeed confirmed on my own installation, makes me wonder how … oh i get It, it simply uses the stock blizzard favorite-system if you have per-char favorites disabled (the default).

And if you enable per-character favorites (which you have to enable per character then!), it uses its own (per character) addon storage instead, which should totally work just fine with your accounts-within-account inception situation then.

I think it works (based on very limited testing), i’d suggest you try this:

Preparation:

  • Start off with only 1 of the 2 accounts logged in.
  • Log onto a single one of your Characters (does not matter which)
  • Unfavorite all mounts (to get rid of the account wide favorites and clear the way for per-character favorites)
  • Logout
  • You can now safely logon both accounts again, should you wish to.

.

  • Log on to Character A
  • You should notice you currently have no favorites (because you cleared those).
  • In the topleft corner of the mountlist, click the star and enable the ‘per character’ setting there. Now character-favorites are enabled for Character A(!)
  • You can mark a few mounts that you consider to be favorites of Character A now (optional), in the usual way by doing rightclick->set favorite.

.

  • Now relog to Character B
  • You should notice this one still has no favorites (as you removed all the account wide favorites, and the ones you may have marked before were only marked as favorites for Character A)
  • In the topleft corner of the mountlist, click the star and enable the ‘per character’ setting for this character as well.
  • You can mark a few mounts that you consider to be favorites for Character B now (optional)

.

You can repeat the process that you did with Character B, for all your other Characters, on both accounts. Which of your 2 accounts the character(s) belong to should not matter at all anymore when it comes to this addon.

.

You should now have fully functional per character favorites i believe.

OMGoddess, Sandsh, thank you!
I feel a bit stupid now – I realised I thought that if I activated “per character” on a single character, it would switch from regular to character favourites for the entire realm. Didn’t realise I had to simply activate the “per character” option on every alt I want to use it one, which actually makes total sense. THANKS !!

Yea i didn’t expect it to work like that either, i just noticed that the Addon didn’t have any account wide settings (only per character), which implied there is almost no other way than this that would work.

It isn’t the most user-friendly this way, having to do it for every character. And of course if you end up making another character some months down the line, you’re likely to overlook that minor step :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m also not really sure how it all behaves when you start mixing per-char and account wide favorites, i’m guessing it will just add them together initially, i can’t imagine it’ll feel very intuitive over time though. Anyway, i figured it’s probably worth trying to avoid that, hence the unfav-everything preparation  but yea.

.

it would be a lot more user friendly if the per-character system was completely seperate from the normal account wide system. Leave the original blizzard account wide system intact under rightclick->setFavorite (where it is) and add a rightclick->setCharacterFavorite option below it.

Every characters mountlist would then show the account-wide favorites as wow does by default (move them to the top of the list, and with a yellow star), and the addon could then do something similar for the character-favorites (move them to the top and give them a green star for example), but oh well

.

If you feel like it matters for you, you could always suggest it to the author, and the same goes for your wish for notes.
