Tank in raids for newbee

How difficult is it to get a tank role in a raid? I want to start tanking. I hope for a detailed answer if u want guys)

Imo it’s not difficult to get a tanking spot.

The question is rather “how experienced are you in tanking?” It can be very difficult to tank encounters and you are also expected to lead groups in most instances.

You could start with tanking Follower Dungeons and/or ask friends/communities ingame for tanking xp help.

I agree - start with follower dungeons and progress- solo content so you are overgeared- it gives you a confidence boost - watch guides on YouTube - and stay positive

BUT- DPS are absolute ***** and so every now and then you’ll get vote kicked when they pull for you or you make a mistake - no big issue - deep breath and wait 30 mins before trying again

It heavily depends on what you are aiming for, if you want to get in a raiding guild as a dedicated tank, chances are you are going to be out of luck there.

If you want to pug, it’s not much easier either, you may find it somewhat easy to get a spot in a fresh normal raid, but getting a spot in an ongoing raid as a backfill may prove to be a little bit harder.

There are also some communities around that you could be joining, but same with guilds it will probably be hard to get a dedicated tank spot there.

The problem with tank spots in raids is mostly caused by the fact that while you may need up to 22 dps and 6 healers, depending on your raid composition (talking standard ones here), you will always need only 2 tanks.

Difficulty wise, normal raid will probably not be hard to do as a tank, since you are mostly just required to pay attention to positioning, tank swaps and unless you are standing right infront of a frontal, or in some type of a voidzone, you should be fine.

Heroics are entirely different take on the other hand, stuff starts to hit harder there and most mechanics may actually require use of certain defensive cooldowns, even if you don’t need them to survive it will always be nice towards your healer to mitigate that big damage you can predict.

Mythic will actually require a good knowledge of your class, mechanics and proper cooldown usage, it can be hard but it’s also rewarding if you can manage to beat it.

This applies mostly to 5man content, where the options are nearly limitless and content can be repeated as many times as you want pretty much (only exception is m0 dungeons), you will notice that the number of groups looking for tanks can be seemingly endless, this is due to every group of 5 requiring one, instead of being limited to only 2.
