I wanted to try out tanking for my first time but overwhelmed with the all the choices. I thought that maybe a tank with not many buttons and focused on the core elements of tanking would be the best choice.
And pls don’t recommend me the druid. I want to my cool transmog and not a hairy bear butt
Try out the different classes using class trials and see what feels best to you, you will get a feel of their talents trees and how you can optimise them best for your preferred way of play.
It’s difficult for other players to suggest a class for you because whilst they might like X class you might try it and not get on with it so the class trials are your best friend when trying to find something that suits you.
Blood dk probably. Runes go on cd and you just can’t spam everything. You also just keep boneshield up at 5+ charges and press death strike when in danger or for just dps. I think all other tanks have also caught up to it in terms of complexity too except maybe prot warrior which still seems the easiest to play at basic level.
Might seem a bit weird because it has so many utility buttons to press, but I’d suggest prot paladin.
Why?
Because it’s tanking at its most obvious. You do damage to get aggro and use defensives to mitigate incoming damage.
The basic rotation is very, very simple. Build holy power with judgement and blessed hammer → spend holy power on shield of the righteous. That basic rotation, along with maintaining consecration (get a weakaura that screams at you when you’re not standing in it) and throwing out avenger’s shield and divine toll on CD, will get you through low keys.
As you progress into higher keys, you’ll need to start weaving in more defensive CDs and heals to stay alive, and weaving in utility to help the rest of your group stay alive, but by that time you will have already learned the basics.
In my opinion prot pala is the easiest tank to get started with because you can learn it a bit at a time as you progress. If you don’t have a paladin, I also recommend levelling through world content as prot as well because it really helps to get the basic rotation stuck in your head.
If the part that bothers you is the rotation decisions, you can try the hekili addon.
Other than that, I think that prot paladins are pretty basic when it comes to their activity as their active mitigation defensive is also an offensive ability
On topic though, Blood DK has one of the lowest actions per minute from tanking and is super straight forward. There’s no extra buttons to keep track off that needs to be pressed to survive outside of your rotation or defensives.
idk if I would really recommend blood dk to a beginner though given how it’s the most unforgiving tank to play. maybe something like prot warrior would be better
Literally how does this change anything about the fact with how many buttons he needs to keep track of and use to even be considered remotely decent at the class.
In terms of “button bloat”, and if druid is out of the picture, then it must be Vengeance DH. Blood DK is not it, because they have multiple defensives to circle through, while VDH has the least amount among everyone.
But if it is the easiest tank that you are aiming at, VDH might not be the best option for a multitude of reasons. Don’t be afraid of that “bloat”, too, as it only affects the steepnest of learning curve, not the complexity itself. There are no classes in WoW that you wouldn’t be able to learn in a matter of days, but on some of them it is indeed harder to perform than on others.
I would suggest Protection Warrior. No extra group utility to keep in mind, not too many control abilities to time with precision, defensive options are many and strong, and playstyle is mostly straightforward. Sturdy, reliable, and with considerable DPS output. There are issues! But every tank spec has them, and PW might be not the worst choice to start with.
I came here to answer the OP’s question and give some useful information, not to get into a childish spat with someone who is only here to cause conflict and drama, so I’ll put you on ignore.
In my own personal opinion Druid Tank is the most easiest to learn on but may become a bit boring for some. From there expand onto the other and then make a decision as to which one you prefer. I hear Brewmaster is fun though I myself have not tried it just yet.
I am alting on brewmaster. But brewmaster has quite some bloat, or rotational uptime buttons, so i do not want to recommand it here.
Allthough i do want to recommand it if you want to play… easy mode… brewmaster. Like kick out rushing jade wind and just take the passive.
I just go for 5 damage buttons (keg, breath, bok, tiger palm and spin) and then purify brew (+ passive heal) the stagger.
Can get resonably high when you also use dave and celestial brew for shield. Sometimes taunt. 10 button spec
(ok ok ok, interrupt, aoe stun, ring of peace, dispell are awesome too)
