Tarren Mill or Twisting Nether

Hi all,

I am currently playing horde on Outland, needless to say I made a stupid choice in the past (peer pressure). The people I moved there for don’t play anymore however and since guilds are still not cross-realm I am basically forced to move (I enjoy active guild life).

I am looking to move to either TM or TN. Population numbers seem to be about the same. Both have a huge guild on there (Echo and Method) to keep the realms alive and both don’t seem so populated that patch days should give big problems (looking at you Kazzak).

I read that AH prices should be higher on TM and that TN has more Iranian/Turkish players and seems to be a tad more elitist. (I don’t know if that is true though, just read it once.)

For choosing the right realm I am looking for differences between the two. If anyone could enlighten me that would be VERY much appreciated!

Sincerely,
IKON

We moved our guild from a very low population realm to Tarren Mill earlier in the year, and so far have not regretted it – things sell must faster (read … at all compared to a low pop!) and the folks seem friendly.

We’ve so far had no issues with lag … but the test will be when Dragonflight launches - it might be worth you creating a character on realms that you’re interested in, and checking out any expansion connection issues.

During our considerations for realms, we did consider Twisting Nether as well. We also heard/saw the higher Turkish population comments although, as a guild, it’s not really something that would affect us a lot, as far as I could tell.

The main reason to come to Tarren Mill as opposed to TN, other than potential language issues, was that it’s actually a Connected realm. So if people struggle to get a character name on TM, they should be able to get one on Dentarg and still be in the guild.

Ah good advice thanks! Would you otherwise have moved to TN (if not for the name thing).

You triggered me on the naming part! But unfortunately my name is taken on both hahaha. Good to see this reasoning. Might be handy in the future.

It was on the shortlist.

First thing I did was check wowprogress for rough realm population size. We only considered those around 9k or higher and discounted any alliance heavy realms (with us being a horde guild), and RP realms.

The remaining ones we asked guild members if they had alts on any of them and to give feedback, we (myself and officers) also created alts on all those realms to test them out.

We checked the general/trade chat for language and how often it was used. We checked the auction house for prices of popular items (this was prior to the auction house change).

I checked the relevant blizzard realm forums for activity.

I also checked wowprogress for number of raiding guilds, type of raiding guilds, and if they had any of the top raiding guilds present.

I then checked for realms that already had a guild with our name.

So once we’d filtered all those out, TM & TN were the two higher population realms that remained, the others that we considered were Ragnaros and Stormscale. Both of the two latter realms had our guild name used already, albeit by an abandoned, dead guild so yes, essentially, our only other choice would have probably been TN.

Other than the fact that TM gives additional naming chances, their realm forums had more active posts at the time and more active raiding guilds. And their “top raiding guild” was higher ranked than TN. Which didn’t have a great impact on us directly, of course, but it’s a good indicator, plus we made a fortune selling raiding mats when we transferred from a realm where there were virtually no raiding guilds :stuck_out_tongue:

TM is pretty nice.

I got another acc that is old and I wanted to restart.

Ah sells good.

It is easy to get to mythics. Not much mythic in this acc but ive pugged some high levels in the other acc:)

Lots of swedish players if youre into that.

Lots of weird people if youre into that.

Easy to get friends, even those who do serious high end stuffs.
