Well if your argument is that I should stop playing. My sub is cancelled but until then I can post on this forum. I clearly defined my breaking point to be the WOTLK release. If they haven’t announced something that restores my trust in them actually adressing problems in the game I am out. Just throwing Free transfers around will NOT count for me because it just postpones the inevitable failure into the future. I trusted them when they made empty promises about TBC and I see myself as someone with a strong moral compass.
So why did I play so long? I guess for the same reasons many do it - Social interaction. Bet you know the game is already out for 15 years. Most of the time the gameplay is stale. PVP is heavily unbalanced and doesn’t get fixed at any point in the expansion but I’ve met very nice people along my journey. Those are the reason that kept my playing and I don’t want to cut ties with them. Some people argue that one can still join the discord but it’s like moving to another town or starting another job. If you don’t play the same game the ties get looser and looser and eventually you loose sight of each other. And since they are so nice it’s hard for me.
This I think is what the game can make addicitve and I also think Blizzard knows that and abuses it. Most of the time the game is just a glorified chat simulator.
And most people don’t act stupid - they act oportunistic. If you are at the supermarket and you have 2 lines - you will search for the faster of the two. And if decided and the other lane becomes faster you will think about swapping. Same for example in traffic jams.
In Wow it’s exactly the same as soon as something on their server is thumbling most people (especially with weak social bonds) search for a “better” one. One with more social interaction, more opportunities, healthier economy. It is natural for the individual to have those thinkings but only Blizzard can prevent these “lane swaps” not the players around. And the social pressure only becomes stronger the bigger the difference between the two things become - be it an empty and a full server or a jammed and a moving lane.
