And when mobs/bosses have less HP (which makes fights/encounters shorter), when people can do more DPS/HPS due to less mechanics (which means less movement, less target switching, less attention on specific things etc), when those mechanics do less damage (which means a raid can bring less healers, more DPS, while not getting punished for misstakes etc) it leaves less room for errors, making it the definition of “easy/easier” - presenting few(er) difficulties. - while also speeding everything up as a byproduct.
Again, there are shades of grey. There’s difference in difficulty between a passive Target Dummy with 1 HP and a moving Target Dummy with 10 000 HP that shots back at you, while you have to move away from random fire - even if both are “easy”. Also, one of them might be a bit more intresting to do 2 hours a week than the other - even tho they both are “easy”.

Honestly, weapons especially were and are the only thing that still has some kind of prestige due to their low droprate. I think before it was mostly T5 helmets, but I get your point.
