Text to Speech

Introducing TTS to World of Warcraft will help many people with reading-related issues get a better handle on what’s being said in-game.
So why text to speech doesn’t read quests, or is there any option that I haven’t seen that allows it, if not what ridiculous half implemented feature is this?

I would imagine that doing it for quests is a consideration that goes a bit beyond the immediate intent of text-to-speech.

If you consider doing it for quests, then you might also consider using actual voice actors, and you might even consider revamping the whole storytelling format all-together so it doesn’t rely so much on text – as various other games have opted for.

And it might also be that design-wise the distinction between quest-related text and semi-quest-related text is a bit blurred, and where do you draw the line then, if at all? Should you then also have text-to-speech for tooltips and NPC dialogue?

Maybe Blizzard are just starting with text-to-speech where it’s straight-forward and simple to implement. And then if it’s useful and people like it, then they can tackle all the troublesome text in the game on a broader level afterward.

Never tried this, but seems to have been updated for SL;

Edit, was supposedly to be a TTS feature for 9.1;

I haven’t tried it either but I looked at it some time ago as I struggle to read the quests (that squiggly font on the yellow background). Apparently it uses Windows built in text to speech functionality.

I found a different addon called Storyline which displays quest text in bigger font with light text against a darker background (much easier to read). It also allows for keyboard options for dialogue and Accpeting and Completing quests which is handy as mouse pointers can be fiddly.

Could anyone possibly mod using imported voices for text to speech. i wanna listen to eminem
