Thank you Blizzard for for letting your players spend money again

I was eager to find out when will be the next time when you have the chance to split your community into 2 camps, but it finally happened.

The roughly 1 mil gold needed for the mats for the legendary axe is quite well calculated. It will be such a good feeling for weeks to come, to farm this amount of mats for us who are poor, or simply don’t want to spend a cent more than the sub fee, while others will just swipe their credit cards 3 times for 60 EUR.

Without the WoW token it would be actually cool to work towards something so powerful, but as always, money was yet again more important than to provide an equal playing field, and create a game with integrity in focus.
Nice P2W game.

Where did you pull “1 mill gold” from?

Wowhead published the mats needed for the questline. Go and check the prices of those mats on the AH. And ofc it’s still going up and up, as people are purchasing those mats in bulk, making the prices skyrocket even higher. Hopefully as the initial high demand will wear off, prices will fall a bit, but it will still be a lot of money, and I thought after the SL legendary system blizzard wouldn’t pull another move like that.

I love how people are pre buying and have no idea how this axe is going to be handled they might never see it drop for them so it is gold wasted.

Yea i saw and most of the materials are quite easy to come across but even with the increase in price theres no way it comes close to 1 million gold.

Hell, im pretty sure i have most of these materials in my bank from just playing the game.

Atm its more like 700-800k but not far from 1 million.

Then don’t?
It’s not like farming gold is hard.
There are tons of ways to make gold over the course of a WoW exp.

Some are more time consuming than others, some require more game skill or auction skill but pretty much everyone can make gold in this game without spending more real life money.

In SL with the treasure from Callings, if you could do 3x3 (aka 3 Callins on 3 char) a day, you could avg like more than 600K gold a month, that excluding the paragon, the treasures, gold from, and item selling.
To which you could add the table management of those chars (that i did not use cause i cba).

In DF sadly there is no more callings and no more tables, but for example i logged some of my chars and i found out that there are on AVG:

15 quests(not counting rare quests) that award 650 gold on average bi-weekly. That’s 19.5k a week, aka 78k a month per char. Now multiply that for how many char you feel like doing.

It’s simple, anyone can do it, it just requires a lot of time. But hey, WoW is not just about endgame, everything is part of it, even gold making.

I fail to see how any players that have played since WOD are not millionare’s

WoD mission table
Legion mission table
SL mission table

Millions of gold to be earnt passive at the time, seems very alien to me people need to buy tokens.

Average forum users, unable, or unwilling to comprehend a single word I typed.

I didn’t said it’s not possible to farm. I actually said it would be COOL to farm it, without the WoW token, because since a long time, a legendary would actually feel like a legendary. Worthy of the title. Not like in MoP and WoD, where everyone had one, without too much effort. It would be like in the old days, when you had to put in a lot of effort to acquire something cool and powerful.

The problem is that while some people will spend weeks farming these mats on multiple characters with different profession, going through their own adventures, others will just swipe 2-3 times in 10 seconds. It destroys everything that made up the soul of MMOs.

I played during WoD and Legion but I didn’t minmax the tables despite running multiple characters. I didn’t think it was very interesting gameplay so I did it somewhat devotedly on one or two characters (and still not super efficiently) and with the rest I’d do it when I thought of it, which usually meant sporadically. I’m guessing there were more who did it like this despite apps and what not

Either way, I’d wait a bit with getting the mats needed. This always happens early on and prices can rise like crazy. In a few weeks it should be more reasonable again

You could buy Sulfuras mats in a similar fashion 20 years ago.

Any time you have a game with farmable mats and an in-game system like Auction House to buy mats for in-game currency, some people will forego the grind and just swipe. The only difference between then and now is that it has become easier, and legal, to swipe now with the Token.

“Whaaah Blizard, why u gate shiny ax behind WF”

“WHAAAH Blizzard why you gete shiny ax behind many goldz”

“whaaah Lizzard why you gate shiny ax behind low drop chanse”

So far we are 2/3.

There will be even more bad luck protection than with the evo legendary. It’s also in Blizzard’s interest to let people get it for reasons OP stated already

I just dont agree with the premise, because there will always be people able to 10 second it.
Be it cause they dropped real money, gold or have a guild handing them the mats.

While i agree that the token wast not the greatest addition, even before it, you would have people instantly affording something it took you or someone else months to get.

Even playing field was never there anyway.

And as always the price will go down afterwards. Of course prices for something rise while the demand is high. Like, are you new to the world or what?

The only ones that are getting “screwed” by this right now are people that cant wait and want it now now now. Especially amusing if people buy it now while not having the axe themselves.

Alternatively farm the mats yourself. Also makes some gatherers happy since they have a nice temporary income currently.

Do you believe everything you read on wowhead?

It honestly fascinates me how people started ranting as soon as the first info dropped.

Even if there was no prereqs at all – there could still be complains. About the drop rate. About how it’s over/undertuned. About who can and who can’t wear it. About how easy to get it. About how hard to get it. About how there’s no counterplay in any content.

Get a life y’all. You didn’t even see this axe in person to rant about how expensive it is. Any serious raiding guild should have enough gold to support the axe winner without any problems, considering how much all these people spend for R3 chants, gems and consumables (for the reference, only R3 Shadowed Belt Clasp and Sophic Devotion will cost around 20k/person which makes at least 400k for 20 ppl mythic roster ONLY for these two enchants). And if you’re solo player – these are not really such a huge numbers. I got around 500k just from simply playing, questing, sellings mats and tmog from my mount runs, and I don’t even consider myself gold farmer.

Get it first, then rant.

Adding the WoW Token to World of Warcraft was stupid for many reasons, one of them being that it adds a real life monetary value to everything in the game, and thereby spoils the carefree nature of playing a video game and immersing yourself in a fantasy world.
Now it’s hooked up to real life and your wallet. And who wants that in a fantasy world?
