Thanks for updating the Spell Density options in 11.2

Have been asking for this since a long time.

What is planned?

Cos right now i have it on essential only and still the screen is filled with everything under the sun obscuring everything on the floor. It got me killed yesterday in motherload as it obscured the intentionally placed lawn furniture that is placed everywhere on the run to the last boss.

It is disgusting how much crap and color there is. I cant even see the floor and the obstacles placed there

Hello!

This week’s Ghosts of K’aresh PTR includes changes and improvements to the Spell Density graphics setting. Previously, this option would dynamically reduce the amount of spell visuals being displayed, based on your current framerate. This has been helpful to players with lower-performance systems, but we want to improve it, with the goal of giving players more control over how spell visuals in combat look, regardless of performance.

The Spell Density system is first designed with a focus on improving players’ visibility of important information in combat, so that players can better see and respond to combat mechanics. The new system provides game designers and artists with improved controls over which spell visuals get displayed and how, so that there can be a reduction of visuals that do not convey useful information to the player about the state of combat.

How It Works

The Spell Density system can only alter spell visuals initiated by other players in your party or raid, and can either skip a visual entirely or cause it to be rendered in a less-visible way (e.g. more transparent, smaller, or an entirely different visual).

There are situations in which the Spell Density system will never alter visuals.

  • Your (and your pet’s) spell and ability visuals will always be displayed at full intensity, regardless of Spell Density settings.

  • NPC spells and abilities will always be displayed at full intensity.

  • Enemy player spells and abilities will always be displayed at full intensity.

    • This is subject to change in future iterations of the Spell Density system. We recognize that PvP combat has different criteria for which visuals are important for combat decision-making.

In this week’s new PTR build, there are now three Spell Density options:

  • Everything
  • Reduced
  • Essential

Everything, as the name suggests, causes all visuals to be rendered at full intensity. This is how visuals were rendered before this update.

Reduced and Essential activate different levels of the Spell Density system. Reduced is tuned for what we consider to be ideal for dungeon and raid content. Essential is for players who need the most reduction possible while still retaining WoW’s iconic combat look and feel.

We plan to continually update and iterate on this system throughout the Ghosts of K’aresh PTR and for the foreseeable future, and your feedback is highly valuable. Please test this new system in your content of choice and when you leave feedback, please note the type of content you were in, which setting you had the Spell Density option set to, and any specific spell or ability visuals that are relevant.

Thank you very much!

So pretty much similar to what ffxiv has from the beginning .only took blizzard 20 years to figure it out

The game already had 5 or 6 options, are they being reduced to 3 with Essential and Reduced making the engine more “aggressive” in what effects it won’t render?

i dont think we had anything where your own spell density is on to show everything for yourself but you could reduce other party members spell density to less.

OMF FINALLY GAME IS PLAYABLE AGAIN
if they do it right. I Literally want to see ZERO SPELL EFECTS FROM FRIIENDLY PLAYERS

I mean sometimes you want to stand in the Healing Rain no?

Even with maximum density, everybody ignores Earthen Wall Totem.

Probably the one and only reason I’m not playing Resto anymore.

Oh, I hoped this work for world boss / world event.
Since every time painful when huge laggy and my skills take longer loading. When many players use magics same time.

Hoping this options make smooth game.

I’m confused now. I have reread the blue post 2 times and, unless I misunderstand it, our own visuals will always be rendered at normal size and opacity.

What this “new” feature seems to change is how the abilities of others appear on our own monitor. And we already had that option in the Graphics Settings, with 5 or 6 selectable choices ranging from Essential to Everything.

What is this new Spell Density feature going to be and what is it going to affect?

Good thing you’re not doing any content that needs players to do that then.

I play only arenas, so yes, they do.

can you do Arenas without hitting max level?

I would like to see as tank more abilities from my allies tbh

its stupid, that i see from the mistweaver his feyline for like 0,5 sec and then should memorise it

Yeah, if we could specifically set it up from specific specs/roles, it would be even more useful.

But they said they plan on extending this feature as well based on feedback, so something like that could end up being an option.

And if Blizzard reads this comment, one thing I would love is having a 3rd graphics tab for Instanced Content (Dungeons/etc.) so that I can separate…

  • Open World
  • PvP/Raid
  • Dungeons/Instances

… all individually in graphics fidelity.

No.
Only skirmishes, but it’s dead in leveling, nobody’s queing for it. It might as well not exist.

Yeah I agree PvP is pointless and not worth doing.

This applies to life itself.
