Thanks to Pandaria, i see warlock has been gutted

So now with mist of pandaria being on a beta we have now talent calulators on wowhead.
And i took a very small looks and just found out that our warlock specs has been gutted and ruin over the past 10 years. Making it so we have NOTHING compared to other classes.

Like just at mist shadowfury and current one!
Mist one is

  • 30 sec cd
  • instant

While the one in retail is on a 1 min cd and has a cast time.
And im not even bringing up all of the talent nodes in mist that would turn your warlock into a literal Tank.

We despretly need some of our old utility and survivability back!

I didn’t play MoP but it looks like that was peak class fantasy. I know Kil’Jaeden’s Cunning made it into a video of the OP abilities, but the nerfed version of just filler spells is exactly what we need.

Why Shadowfury is not instant still baffles me.

Finally we can cast while walking…we just had to wait for MoP

When I’m gonna switch from my MoP warlock to the one on retail, I gonna feel outdated, lol

You don’t need anything back.
Meta is just unlucky for stationary casters right now.
Just wait until warrior,Ww monks and a few other melee gets some nerfs.

That is automatically a buff for you.
Warlock have been S tier alot with the toolkit you already have. Just wait until the meta changes.

and why, for example, mage can already have a scandalous number of skills and cc to enjoy this TWW and the warlock must “wait”?

I don’t want to be polemical, but what should we wait for? At most the damage of those out of control melee will slightly decrease, but their dynamics will remain the same and not only for this season 2.

The warlock’s dynamics itself will remain identical, and it won’t be a +2% damage aura that will make a class more fun that even players of other classes are surprised to see it abandoned like this

Ahahahaha .
Either you have not been playing long enough , or are a mele player yourself .
Let me tell you how nerfing mele goes .

Expansion 1:
Warrior has 3 lets say “charges”
Warlock has 3 Lets say "teleports’
Mage has 4 lets say “blinks”

Expansion 2:
Warrior loses 1 and is down to 2 charges
Warlock loses 2 and is down to 1 teleport
Mage loses 2 and is down to 2 blinks

Expansion 3:
Warrior gets back 2 charges and is now at 4
Warlock is added cast time to more abilities , still sitting at 1
Mage gets 3 more blinks and is at 5

Expansion 4:
Warrior gets 2x roots , immunity to slows , immunity to fear , heal from damage
Warlock loses drain life healing , loses 1 more defense , gets one more ability on cast time , and gets a cast time gateway with 2 minutes cd for 1 use
Mage gets 4x more roots , 2 x more blinks , everything on instant , 3x combat reset , heal and shield .

That’s how warlock goes … And yea this is basically state explanation of WoD > to TWW . This is literally what happened when they announced ability pruning , but for some reason warlocks got pruned so hard my bars were left empty , while mele classes got extra mobility , survival and cc tools and lost useless stuff like sunder armor .

All I can say to OP is this - enjoy Pandaria and partially WoD while you can . As those of us who have played trough them know that there is an extinction level meteor heading your way at the end of that .

…
And on the topic of nerfing mele in general .
Not gonna happen… EVER .
Mele are designed to be idiot proof , easy to pick up , flashy animation classes . They are popular because people like to mash buttons and not think much .
And the whole game direction is doubling down on instant gratification , rng , slot machine game play .

You say the meta just favors them ? You mean boss abilities ? You mean swirlies , lasers and pools everywhere , that favor instant damage and constant movement ?
Why do you think they are designed like that ?
Because that is the direction they are moving in . This is what the new generation of retail players want . They don’t show signs of changing this .

In fact they redesign casters to also have instant casts and cast on the move .( mage / elemental shaman / evoker ) .
Those classes that are stuck in the gutter with cast time , will either wait for redesign or just be left eating dust in the corner .
The sad direction of pew pew gameplay , with 0 skill is what we are heading to . There will be no nerfs to that .

But why should we need to wait for other classes to get nerfed?
And even if other classes would get nerfed, it wouldnt solve ANYTHING
We have problems with current playstyle and buff and nerfs wont fix it, only changes to how we play will.

And as you said, current meta isnt made for stationary casters, so why cant we just get move spells that can be casted on the move?

I’m sorry to say it, but playing warlock in these current conditions in pvp is masochistic. It’s not impossible to win and get rating, but it’s the most stressful thing I’ve ever experienced in my life

among other things even if certain classes were “nerfed”, the dynamics would remain almost unchanged. So a warrior if he uses his CDs decently, he won’t make you cast anyway.

In some arenas even using gate, port and also having the priest’s leap you will always have the melee glued to you. And in the time that you try to cast a quarter of unstable or hand’s of guldan in precog… you get truckloads of instant damage.

Anyway the incredible thing is that reading in the two official forums there are many who say that the warlock in this new expansion (with the exception of the first week of affliction soul harverster) is truly pitiful

And the solution is NOT to increase the warlock’s defenses, if someone doesn’t remember the warlock in MOP (that you mentioned) didn’t have more armor, had to choose between soul leech and dark pact, didn’t have gate instant, didn’t have port CD reduction… But above all didn’t have shadowfury at cast time (the most crazy thing they could do to the class)

That isn’t a warlocks main problem tho, you should be able to kite most melee pretty okey with port and gate and your arena partners.
Yes, mobility is low, but they have managed to stay a S-tier/A-tier caster in alooot of expansions in PvP. So mobility ain’t the issue.
They are usually durable, but Melee is just overtuned and do way to much damage,
The meta is just insane burst/one shots atm and Warlocks don’t like that.

And yes, according to Achievements, i have played PvP more than you and have been at higher rating than you. ( You brought that up first )

The meta isn’t usually like this.
So sit this one out or play another class.
Trust me, Warlock will be S-tier/A-tier sooner than later
Warlock is mostly a very good pvp class.

You’re not a Unholy DK, they have the right to cry

And you have the ability to catch the warlock with the help of your partners. How is it every time when the partner argument is brought , it looks like the mele team is just playing solo , or you forgot you get 3x grips , 3 x charges , 3 x stuns ( and more) .
Stop talking bs . Everyone knows that unless you have a shadow priest there (cry) you tunnel the warlock the whole game , because they are easiest to tunnel and interrupt .

The only time warlock has been S/A tier or whatever you like to call them , since Pandaria , is when the damage has been overbuffed and when some passive defense like soul link is broken and you can just sit midfied turetting people .

You know the difference between Pandaria and now ?
In Pandaria I have all the tools I have now +
20% soulink
Instant Shadow fury + coil + how of terror all at the same time
More instant casts
Casting on the move
immunity
enraged regeneration skill
shadow damage absorb
double interrupt .
+
Demonology specific
tank glyph which gave
on demand shield + damage done /taken reduction
leap forward
knock back

All of this was removed .

In the mean time every other class has gotten extra utilities , more mobility , more gap closers , more shields , more health regen .

Your DK is bad ? Probably , but the problem with Dk is that it stayed roughly the same it was in Pandaria + it got it’s defensive nerfed , while all other mele keep getting buffed . And yes I have played Dk Since WOTLK also .
On the other side warlocks have been losing utility since Pandaria .

You speak of Warlocks in general (all 3 specs) , but you speak of Unholy only .
Usually either Frost or Unholy will have broken damage during a patch .
But I will give you that . DK in general feels like one of the least loved Mele children . They definitely have been getting the short end of the stick more often that the others , mainly because other mele eat them , just like they do casters . ( same problem for feral btw)

What I said In my post above is that I hate this no skill damage measuring gameplay , where it will be blizzard to decide if you are top or bottom .
Utility usage and cooldown trading is the one thing the shows true skill and knowledge of the game . Remove those and we are just PvE monkeys mashing buttons . This exactly what they have done to warlocks , what mele’s are now , and where the game is heading to .
I’m just waiting till cast time is removed from everyone and everything is instant , so we can just pew pew each other rolling dice on who will get more crits and die first .

I could care less if I am one-shotting people with chaos bolt , if all I do is sit midfield turreting people and being tunneled 24/7 by the mele zug zug brigade .

That’s a bit true but remember Warlock especially affliction was the strongest PvP caster in the game back then. I think that snapshotting made the spec unique and when they “fixed” it in Draenor Affliction lost a lot of it’s uniqness.

Biggest difference is on Cata/MoP when you apply all dots the enemy feels it. If he pushes out of position he can get bursted by the other dps and die. On retail however dots tickle and do barely any pressure. Affliction Warlock damage happens when he can cast Malefic Raptures and that’s where the problem is. I don’t know if MR works in PvE but it definetely made the spec the gimmick since it got introduced.

With dots doing enough pressure even with current mobility Warlock would be fine. Unfortunately it’s not because if you just reapply dots people will keep chasing you until you die.

I hate playing the victim, and I’m definitely wrong because of my bad perception… but can you explain to me why when the warlock is a bit too strong and people whine, the nerf hammer arrives without fail even with immediate hotfixes… while for some classes there isn’t even a nerf or in the case of a nerf, compensations are always made? -Every reference to the mage is purely intentional-

By the way, can you explain to me why they often make changes that are practically useless, except to say “here’s the buff”? What’s the point of the rampant affliction buff now in a season where you have the triple unstable thanks to the set?

I haven’t even logged in for almost 3 weeks now, from my point of view pvp is unpresentable. It doesn’t mean you can’t win, but it’s just depressing to play

The problem with Affli on retail is that everyone has 3-5 offensive CDs so everyone needs 3-4 Def CDs. Because of it dots became pad damage that doesn’t kill anyone. Once someone drops low he presses def CD and 2 of his mobility CDs and loses your damage. You need to play pseudo Mage and rely on Shadow Bolts and Malefic Raptures. Unfortunately it means we have to play with Rogues and Ferals because other meeles cannot give you enough space to land your burst combo.

in fact the thing that makes me shocked is when I read comments like “the warlock is fine, play with a rogue and if you are demonology play with a frost mage”. Thanks.

But no one says that “warlock is fine” just because the arena companion does practically everything that the warlock cant do. At this point it’s like if for example the demonology warlock were removed the axe toss and the teleport and gave the frost mage the deep freeze that stuns and a blink for the allies and continue to say “the warlock is fine, just play it with the frost mage”. Again, thanks
