Thats not an army. It's an invasion

“Thats not an army. It’s an invasion…”

I have done the intro quest for Broken Isles many times, to get the Dalaran Hearthstone, and that perticular line just gets me everytime I do it.

“Its not an army, it’s an invasion.”

So what does the invasion consist of then, if not an army?
And why is it not an army when it is an invasion?

Again, I dont get that line…

If it was worded like…

“This is not a minor incursion, it is an invasion.”
or
“This isnt just a fight, it is a full blown invasion.”

I can come up with several more that makes more sense that that original line.

Sometimes I do wonder if the people who write this actually know english, but then English isnt my native language.

You’re right, but I think they just went with “rule of cool first, ask questions later” approach, which ya know… Well this line.

But doesnt they have proofreaders when it comes to theese things?

I mean, small insignificant questlines may not be that imprtant, but this is the intro for an entire expansion.

If you ask me, I would word it more like…
“This is not what we expected at all. This is a full blown invasion”.

That would have made more sense.

Think they’re implying the scale is much bigger then the characters were expecting

I know what they are trying to say, but that is not what they are saying.

Its like…
“Thats not ice, that is frozen water.”

even
“That army is way bigger that we anticipated. This is an invasion.”

Is better.

Fair point

Viruses are not usually considered as an army yet they can really invade a settlement of living beings.
Now take that exemple, and imagine coming from the maws of hell complete alien beings.
Most of them are not even conscious they simply exist to annihilate.
Yeah I could see that as not facing an army.

So even if you take it literally it can make sense. And you know it wasn’t meant to be taken literally.
So yeah hope I helped resolve that problematic case :sunglasses:

Err… you know you can just skip it to get the hearthstone working, right? But yeah, it’s one of those “we want something to sound deep and poetic” sentences that don’t make much sense if you actually think about them, I guess.

This kinda reminds me of when i hear my dog growling at me but its my cat instead the latter being much more scary

Sloppy writing like this annoys me too. There’s a couple more that irk me every time I do the quests:

Darion to Jaina (during the Maw intro quests): “did you see any sign of the Night Warrior?” Jaina “Tyrande? Here? No, I have not.” It should be “No, I did not”

During the Bastion questline: “How long ago did you endure this?” - “Long enough that I remember there was pain, but not so recently that I feel it.” That answer makes no sense, It should be “Recently enough that I remember there was pain, but not so recently that I feel it”

But worst of all, the Demon Hunters in Legion keep saying “We are all that stands between the Legion and annihilation” To stand between two things means to separate them which would mean the demon hunters are preventing the legion from being annihilated. It should be something like “We are all that stands between the Legion and total victory” or “We are all that stands between Azeroth and annihilation”

Not’s no mere army, it’s a full blown invasion!

you know you can skip entire intro talking to a orc outside orgrimar + ending up in dalaran ? >.<
dala HS is a toy now so its not a thing anymore

or you do it cause you really like to replay varian getting disenchanted / voljin getining stabbed by an trash mob lmao

English is not my native language but I doubt this is what it means. For me it means what they say. They are the only ones who can prevent the legion kill everyone.

Not everything has to be put under the microscope and storytelling is a form of art which is open to interpretation.

For me, in the context of what is happening in the story, it implies that this isn’t some Azeroth based army we are fighting, it is an invasion of another civilisation which consists of most of their population.
