The god-awful camera. Having to kite means you will be primarily facing into the arena, keeping the wall behind you, and getting jeopardized when the camera constantly collides with some object or wall.
Good exceptions are Maldraxxus Colisseum and the Kyrian map, where the walls are lowered and pillars not too in the way. Those maps don’t appear in shuffle, naturally.
Hunters are one of the only classes with true skillshots, which means that keeping the camera zoomed in close and looking straight ahead, almost like seeing through our character’s eyes, is impossible, when landing every trap is so vital. And of course, after feeling accomplished about landing all your traps, they instantly get broken… almost like it’s a feature at this point. Looking at you, shufflers.
I can’t fathom how Blizzard can have us spectate AWC where the UI not only looks good, the camera also seamlessly clip through the walls so that you, the viewer, don’t get the headache of the “immersive” camera.
Since every other game dev including Blizz themselves apparently figured out how to implement this, how much do we have to beg to get this as an option?
I personally always play with camera zoomed out to the maximum.
For traps I only use [@cursor] or [@player] macros, never the green reticle.
The only trap I throw without a “setup” is tar trap.
When I need to land Freezing trap, I always go for one of the following to set it up:
harpoon ([@mouseover] harpoon → [@player] freezing trap macros combo is probably the fastest for me)
concussive shot (the hardest as they’re still moving)
tar trap
or of course intimidation
and only then throw the Freezing trap.
About breaking traps, yeah, not much you can do
But keep in mind that in 10.1 Freezing trap will be 6 sec, and Diamond ice trap will be 5 sec. Only 1 sec of a difference! Currently Freezing trap is 6.8 sec and diamond trap is 4.25 sec, which is a big difference, more than 50% in fact. So, next patch one PVP talent slot frees up from the Roar of sacrifice change (normal tree talent), so we can take Diamond ice trap with minimal downside, and people cannot break this one, nor can it be dispelled by DH and priest. So that’s probably something to look forward to
Harpoon trap feels slightly faster for me when I aim it mid-flight, since you have to wait until you collide when using @player trap. If you use that even slightly before you land, it’s gonna miss a lot of times. When I’ve landed is usually when they death/shapeshift/meld etc.
RIP Draenor trap placement, which was in front of you, and would insta hit in melee range no matter what. Used to have two binds per trap then, now I mostly only use mouseover.
Landing a YOLO trap after focus/mouseover concussive always feels amazing.
Next patch we will have one less mandatory and one of the few defensives we have as a PvP talent, which is good, but what about bandage for us survivalists? And 72 sec Cheetah?
Our stun will also be nerfed, which will make stun > trap much harder.
I’ve started linking CC breaks in Details after every Shuffle round, and I’m not gonna stop.
I have started preparing already and I never go for stun into trap any more. With 3 sec intim only you have to be really close to land the trap, forget about it flying all the way from 30yards So my to-go CC chain is now harpoon → trap → and then into intim → into steel trap if the DPS are far away and the healer is evoker/priest. Trying some new tricks to adapt to the intimidation nerf…
Another potential CC chain in 10.1 will be scatter + intim + diamond ice trap for 11 sec total and 3 DR categories (very close to live in overall duration), but you need 1 more GCD so one less attack during the CC window, which sucks, but can work.
I’ve tested some things on the 10.1 PTR too:
we’ll have much less haste than on live (the new tier pieces are all heavy mastery and only 1 has haste at all) which will somehow impact our CC with longer GCDs
but on the bright side, during death chakram you can have 60-70K normal hit wildfire bombs with the 4set buff, so about 100K crit with the new 150% crits modifier.
new new disarm talent is fantastic: it is 4sec only (compared to 6sec for others who have disarm), however is the longest range disarm in the game (40y) which is more than monk’s even (30y) so you can peel people from far away. Also, if 2 melee are hitting somebody and you disarm one of them, after 4sec the other one is disarmed if they continue to tunnel, so you can get 8sec total.
also tracker’s net is “unnerfed” as it will last 6sec again which opens up some builds to drop steel trap
Mend pet is doubled in PVP in 10.1, it is 100% heal by default, and 200% heal with 2 points in wilderness medicine. You get like 150K heal ticks if you put 2 points in it. Impossible to kill, 100%. Even into feral/unholy or feral/DH, the pet will be immortal
Overall, survival looks great. The only bad part is that intimidation will be 3sec on 1min CD, and all similar stuns will be 30sec for other classes. But it is what it is.
You’re saying Scatter is moved to Disorient DR for next patch? Currently it DR’s with Freezing. We’re losing a lot of CC next patch, compare that to Rogue which got a 0.1 sec nerf on kidney, and 0 sec nerf on Cheap Shot. Amazing.
And how fast is the Disarm projectile?
Don’t know how much more HP we have next season, but Wildfire looks more like SL level now.
And less haste will be very noticeable, I think this game plays best with around 30% haste. Much higher skillcap and feels more fluid, especially when you have a spec which revolves around many small time-sensitive cooldowns versus 123 one-shot zugzugs.
The rest looks good though. Survival is looking more and more like it should. A tool for everything, while each aren’t too impactful by themselves, played optimally it’s downright dangerous.
Would’ve tested myself on the PTR, but of course you have to level all your classes again. Such an a$$ concept.
I meant that you can take the Diamond Ice PVP talent to alter the DR school of your trap:
Scatter and Freezing Trap - incapacitate DR
Diamond ice trap - disorient DR
Intim - stun DR
So you can chain them without DR.
The disarm projectile is about as fast as Tracker’s net.
We have around 500K HP next season, more with tenacity pet.
About the PTR, there is now a Copy character button. You can also copy your Account Settings and Keybindings, so basically with the click of 3 buttons you can set up your PTR like live but without addons
You can go to Orgrimmar/Stormwind and find a bunch of vendors that sell for free tier gear and full PVP gear. Also enchants, etc…
