it seems odd that the limit is on players rather than accounts (which /guildinfo tracking accounts as well shows should be doable). after all, it’s not like two players on the same account will be online at the same time
this limit also results in many guilds having to decide to kick inactive players. granted they can reapply when they start playing again but it has to be a rather disheartening thing to return to the game only to see that your guild has decided to kick you.
we dislike having to remove people from our guild but have no good alternative, we often get close to the 1k mark and have to remove the inactive
either increasing the limit or changing it to 1k accounts instead of characters would be a huge help to guilds and communities… the current limit is far too low
because some members have a lot of active alts that want to be part of the same guild, some members log on intermittently but want to still be guilded when they do. not all of them log on at once
actually it’s very easy to hit the limit just by being a helpful and friendly social guild. the Achievement Hunters community has the same problem because of course there’s a lot of people who want to find groups to get some of those trickier achievs that aren’t soloable
so actually it’s a problem for a lot of guilds, communities and the people who want to join them
With the introduction of the new guild finder system finding new members have become way faster/easier then ever before. People find us on their own, and apply if they think we are a good match. And apparently like it with us, since most stick around. With getting close to 1000 members, we have “only” about 500 accounts of members, most are alts. And that’s one of the problems. More and more people are making alts, and prefer joining their own guilds, even though they don’t play them that often. Hence increasing the member size even faster.
Our guild is not the only guild with this issue, I know off more social/raid guilds struggling keeping member size low. For now the best way to deal with this is kicking members (alts) who have been inactive for a while (think 3 months). But we get more people joining then we can kick. Also, when people get back, at new expansion for example, they find themselves guildless, while they did have a good home. And as the GM of a social guild, that’s something I really find unsocial and dont want to get my members into.
The problem with the communities getting to big fast is also due to lack of proper community tools. Its almost impossible to see now if a member is still active/when last online. My community (achievement hunters) doesn’t even allow alts to join, although we cant track that ofc. Being able to add a ranking system would also be a big help. I’m really hoping some changes will be quickly made to the communities, since I think they are a great asset to the WoW community.
Yes, if it was unlimited then you get to the problem we have with the large realms where they drawn people from the others leaving the rest effectively dead.
A limit also encouraging guild maintenance. What good is a 10,000 limit, for example, if 9000 are people who have not logged on in five years,
What Blizzard need to do is make the invite a player one and give better tools to prune the membership. Create an automatic kick after a guild determined time.
Bad idea. You can have very loyal members who you know that wil come back. Who are just on a break for whatever reason. No way I would have those members kicked.
And indeed, unlimited would also not work out, the amount of work going into managing guilds that big (if you have heart for your guild) is immense. But it’s maybe worth having a look into a system that doesn’t counts alts towards the member cap for example. Combined with a slight raise perhaps.
exactly if u have like 50 ppl with 20 characters it is already 1000 limit and u can have more ppl … also when limit how many character per server is higher … and keep in mind u have servers conected servers so u can have even all 50 character in same guild so increasing to 2.5 k characters i think is nice idea
We can have 50 chars per realm. It needs a much higher limit to reflect that.
I’m not sure I understand the guild thing. I’m not going to put every alt in a separate guild regardless of limits. I don’t see why an unlimited guild would be undesirable.
I actually stick most of my alts in my own bank guild because I don’t want to constantly end up guildless because of housekeeping.
For me the most important reason would be manageability. Think of all the promoting/demoting/removing and stuff, but also keeping an eye on the chat/behaviour of people
