The accents of WoW

Since the Niffen have been introduced, I’m curious as to what their accent is. I’ve always been interested in accents so I thought it would be fun to try figure out what all the WoW accents are.

My first impression for Niffen was Canadian, but I’ve also heard a bit of Irish and Boston in there too, so I’m not sure. Anyone else got any ideas?

What are people’s thoughts of the base race accents?

Humans = American (California?), Dwarfs = Scottish, Nelfs = Transatlantic?, Gnomes = American, Draenei = Russian/Eastern EU, Worgen = British, Panda = Asian.

Orcs = Klingon  ? (I guess American), Undead = American/Transatlantic?, Tauren = Native American, Trolls = Carribean, Belfs = British upper class?

As for the Allied races, its obvious for most of them, Zandalari = African of some sort, Kul’Tiran = Cockney British, Vulpera = American, etc.

Would be interested to hear people’s opinions.

With blood elves, and to some extent Void elves their NPC accents is a bit confusing.

See below difference between Blood elf female Noble ( 2:40) and blood elf female Standard (3:20)

I’m guessing the difference is about nobility then? In that case Void elves are mostly of noble women :smirk:

The Void Elves just sound British to me. Perhaps you could be hearing another transatlantic accent in there somewhere with the Belfs? (think Fraiser/Kelsey Grammer, Audrey Hepburn etc). Its literally a posh mix of American and British.

Yeah might be the case. I’m not the best with accents but I know there is a slight difference between the playable void elves and some of their NPC’s accents.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the thick British accent and prefer the standard elven voice.

But strangely I do love it with Gilneans. Just not with the elves

There are some blood elf guards who just sound straight up standard American. It’s not many of them, and I think it’s just one same voice actor, but there’s definitely American mixed up with the Brits and the weird Kelsey Grammer hybrids.

I believe one of the voice actress for the blood elf female NPC’s (female standard voice) is an American voice actor. Her name is Stephanie Sheh.

That might be the voice you are referring to and why it sounds American.

Shadowlands Brokers accents are persian.

Not a playable race though.

This was my first thought too.

No, the Worgens are Cockney (sort of).
Kul Tirans are more West Country Cidaar Drinkin English.

The Dwarves Accent is a crime against humanity. A Skotch-Oirish mash-up.

Yes sorry you’re right, the Kul’Tiran is 100% west country/Cornwall.

And yes, the Dwarven “Scottish” accents are awful in this game, dont get me started . I could pull a Scottish guy off the street that would be so much better, or any Brit that is decent at accents for that matter. It baffles me why Blizz dont use a genuine Scott for it. Stormcaller Mylra or Toddy Whiskers comes to mind and its pretty bad. I think Lani Minella did Mylras voice, who is an American that typically struggle to do UK accents at the best of times, never mind a thick Scottish accent.

The dwarf accents in this are a hate crime.

Vowels are all over the place and they roll the wrong R’s

Also, there’s no such thing as a British accent…

Draeneis got turkish accent more than russian.

Draenei have Indian / Oriental accent though.

You have never heard English Turkish accent then kek.

have you guys heard Eastern Europeans speaking in English?

Draenei accent is undeniable East European, but I think some listeners might have trouble distinguishing any accent which rolls the letter R.

Reminds me of Sarah Palin (impression).

The Brokers seem to sound middle eastern to me.
Unless I miss something.
I bet their inspiration must had been the merchants of the silk road

Always thought the Zandalari sounded Caribbean, which would make sense given that the Loas are based on Haitian Vodou (which to be fair, is rooted in african diaspora)

Might be. They sound like the merchants in Aladdin when Jasmine was in the market place. and I cannot seem to figure out which accent this is.

Some have an Egyptian accent, others Persian, and others Indian

I know for a fact Ve’nari is voiced by an Egyptian actress.

I like this theory. Would explain the different accents

Not at all. They sounds Eastern European to me

Example:

They’re riding elephants, have a ridiculous consumption rate for incense sticks and came together with turbans to the game during BC. Their accent is Indian / Oriental.

Also, I think you’re in desperate need of a wow dance lesson.
