I agree with the rest of your post except this part.
It’s a video game. It’s not something where not executing 100% of my performance at all times has irrecoverable repercussions in anyone’s life. The expectation of performing 100% at every case I happen to be in group content is one of the reasons I have stopped participating in cutting-edge content (the main reason is lack of time, and the first secondary reason is lack of skill / reaction time).
The community issue is that there is a significant part of the community which expects that whoever they happen to come across is (a) a disposable entity which exists only and only to progress the former’s goals (b) required to perform equal or almost equal to the 0.1%ers.
According to some people, world 1st is doing ok-ish and could be even better if they stopped slacking, and world 2nd is a freeloader. It’s essentially this meme:
Most of the people don’t care about any sort of skill.
They are there to enjoy hobby and get whatever they want from the game, be it gear of whatever else. And to me, it makes perfect sense.
Maybe the friction is that the “skill bros” is, in fact, ever so slowly diminishing group and they don’t have anyone to present themselves to because nobody cares?
Considering they nerfed Dimensius on Story/LFR mode so much by now because people either refuse to communicate/follow simple group rules or because they are just that bad at the game, clearly shows how the wrong people play the wrong genre.
Seems like certain players treat WoW more like a candy crush game than a RPG, so anything remotely complex is already overwhelming them. Not even to mention the MMO part.
Imagine playing a massive multiplayer online game and expecting to be able to do everything solo in content.
It means you did play and got all the KSM/KSH/KSL achievements during that period so hy say you didnt play those seasons when you did? ok so you might have not played the WHOLE patch but you did take part in all seasons.
What does an RPG have to do with difficulty of the game or group rules, or communication? It simply means you’re playing through a Story, and it has no bearing on the former.
Has nothing to do with it. Just means a lot of people online in the game.
At no point are you required to interact with them.
I’m not sure where people keep getting these wild notions of established abbreviations.
A multiplayer RPG usually involves classes, roles and specific mechanics to follow to beat an opponent. Just look at DnD specifically, one of THE RPG genres both with pen/paper and video games by now (see Baldur’s Gate 3). There is no “universal” RPG definition, since it is quite the broad genre.
A Classic/Tabletop/Round-based RPG is focused around class-driven, mechanic combat with almost equal focus on story. Examples would be Baldurs Gate 3, Dragon Age Origins, etc.
A story RPG is focused around immersing yourself in a story without that much difficult combat. Examples would be Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Skyrim and such.
Then there are J-RPGs, like Final Fantasy, that do both mechanical combat and story driven experiences.
Then we have Shooter-RPGs like Destiny, Warframe and Darktide, that have some RPG elements to it but mainly are straight-forward shooter experiences with (or without) story.
Rogue-like and Sandbox RPGs exist as well.
There are a lot. But when people speak of “RPG”, they usually refer to the classic ones. And in that regard, I would have to point more at WoW 2004 than WoW 2025. Sure, you could play WoW in 2004 to some extent alone. But that didn’t apply to dungeons and raids. You had to socialize and understand your class or else you were dragging down everyone else with you.
And the fact that people struggle with Dimensius on story mode, shows just how horrible some players in player skills are. I didn’t follow any mechanics on story mode from Dimensius and not even his strongest attack brought my HP, as a Holy Paladin, down to 92% HP.
Like I said, it used to be the norm, but isn’t anymore.
See it like “the genre lost what made it unique to some” as a statement.
Same could be applied to Sea of Thieves. The game was designed with forced social communication in mind. People like me, that weren’t looking for that, simply were droven out of the game until the devs gave in and added options to not be forced to talk (such as text chat, pings, emotes, etc.)
There is even a No-PvP mode by now, something that was actively denied right from the start because they wanted the Seas to be dangerous both from AI and other players crossing your path as pirates.
A multiplayer game inherently implies that being in a group that coordinates will be more efficient and easier to overcome its challenges compared to alone. (-=EDIT=- There is also the expectation that the larger the group, the easier to overcome its challenges) To the best of my knowledge, all games (or at least every game I have played) that allowed both solo and multiplayer in the exact same content had multiplayer come out as optimal, all the way from back in 1990 with Contra on the NES. Even Sonic 2, where whoever was playing Tails was doomed to die all the time offscreen, was easier with someone controlling Tails.
WoW and MMORPGs are not really different in that aspect. It’s just that a lot of “current” content is tuned for groups to such high degree that they do not become “soloable” even within the same year of release. And in some cases, we even need massive unfair boosts (like the legacy buff that allows us to deal 50x damage to everything from 2 expansions and behind) to not require a group.
No, it’s badly designed. The Story Mode should have a difficulty maybe sliiiiiiiiightly higher than that of your average quest. I mean, it’s not even tagged as “Group (2) Quest” when you accept it to warn you that “Hey, maybe this will need me to be careful or seek help”.
Having 5 instantly oneshot mechanics where one has to do “homework” beforehand by watching gameplay videos of the fight to learn it by heart or reading the adventure compendium and memorizing to avoid them is not what Story Mode should be about.
Yes, there should be a fail condition. But it should be in terms of high damage dealt to the player and forcing them to spend time and resources recovering, or the boss self-healing / gaining damage reduction to extend the fight, until it hits an enrage timer if the player has failed the fight mechanics too many times.
no it just means i tested the water and i didnt like what i saw , idk how to link stuff here but there is this meme from american Psycho where patrick bateman says i have asses the situation or something and im leaving thats basically it … playing a season means when you play and progress the whole season , wether it being CE or High m+ rating or arena ( it dosnt have to be title level ) it just has to be a long period of time and progression in which you participate and play the game … KSM and KSH and KSL are not something to consider playing a whole season for . granted some ppl play an entire season to get those but just because i got em in less than a week or some small time frame dosnt mean i played the so called season . thats just low iq take
and for this season im actually done already after 3 weeks ( not including ptr testing ) so done infact that im gonna be gone for ever probably or atleast untill they get rid of Ion and morgan and the current team and replace them with some competent management , there is not much light left at the end of the tunnel for this game sadly due to its horrible boomeristic demograph that it has in combination with borderline incompetent management but maybe things get better in future we’ll see .
and for anyone whos wondering what do i mean by incompetent management ? well look no further than the recent wowhead post where they nerfed ara kara and Halls of atonement , two dungeons ( in combination with priory ) which we have been adressing the devs since PTR that these dungeons are stupid the way they are and they need to be adressed Specially Halls after 2 something months of PTR testing and almost a full month of live Feed back they finally adressed the issue that was reported to a crazy extensive level … yea GJ blizzard nice really nice im sure making these changes ( such as halls requireing 90% trash before you even kill a boss ))were rocket science level difficulty to solve , or maybe ? just maybe ? you are incompetent lazy and overpaid … maybe if there was somebody who would say your next month paycheck is unhold for now due to this catastrophic level of delivery that you guys have had you would suddenly start doing the job that you applied for .
yeah 100%
and the worst thing is , you cant say anything without getting some sort of ban
ive seen some crazy bad players, and they dont take accountability either
i recently had a Demon hunter tank in priory m+ pulling mobs 2 at a time , and we was asking him to pull more as it was taking forever. his response was “we still get loot”
he listed it as a timed run…
anyways needless to say the rest of the dps was like WTF ? and we voted to abandon the key
i had a shammy healer that was using the One button assist and wondering why he couldnt heal… he was spamming lava blast on random targets through OBA
LOL
i feel like most the playerbase are getting on in age now, and with that they are getting lazy or just bad at the game, if i look through the WoW category on Twitch its always players within the age ranges of 40-60 years old. clicking and spamming one button assist
