The Blades of the Fallen Prince

Just wanted to mention that with all that talk of Mourneblades going around, there is still the DK artifact weapon, forged from Frostmourne itself, and supposedly even more powerful. BfA continued the story of Hati and Xal’atath. Well… if there was ever a time to continue the story of the Blades of the Fallen Prince, it would be this addon. Not necessarily in the hands of the player DK, just like the Shadow priests didn’t get their artifact back, but I feel like not using it as a story device now would be a bit of a shame.

There is also Shadowmourne…

Element number 5,947,590 on Blizzard’s “it’s a shame they didn’t continue / making proper use of some of their existing ideas” list. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir hey but hey ho.

Great idea otherwise, I’d like to extend this to a general better use an exploration of DKs and the Ebon Blade as a whole. Demon Hunters felt more relevant in Legion, why is it that DKs feel like just useless glorified bodyguards in SL? So much potential around death magic / necromancy / rune / domination that isn’t being explored.

I think us DKs get an extra whisper from the Remnant of Ner’Zhul in SoD, that’s about it.

If we assume that there was a 9.3 planned, but likely isn’t coming… I wonder if what would have been special DK content just didn’t make the cut in their rush to shrink down the expansion to a manageable level during covid/Lawsuit-upheavals. I mean, it’s still possible that there is something coming in 9.3, but since we are turning our sights on First One stuff now, I kinda doubt it. 9.1 probably rushed some story aspects that should have been in 9.2 (how could it not, considering the barebones sigil-story?), and thus the part of the addon where we would most closely deal with the Maw and its magics was skipped.

Lore wise, I feel all fingers are pointing towards 9.2 being the end. We’ve been told that the Jailer is the final boss of the addon. If there’s a 9.3, it means that the raid and all the villains in 9.2 will be more minions and officers of the Jailer?

Torghast already feels pretty irrelevant (lore wise) since we’ve cleared out SoD, I’m already struggling to think what new addition they might add to it in 9.2 let alone 9.3.

I think we’re being kind even considering that interesting DK related content was made but left on the cutting room floor for all the reasons. I think it was never made to begin with, even though we got that half decent short story before launch. Thassarian, Koltira, just chilling. With the exception of Darion getting a tiny spotlight, the rest of the riders of the apocalypse are also just chilling…

Well, even in BfA they made a hunter-only questline fpr Hati. Legion was all about class content. MoP had green fire. So yeah, I’d actually be surprised if they hadn’t planned something for somebody, and in this case the obvious somebody would be DKs. Or maybe shamans or druids, I guess?

Once again, loads of great opportunities that weren’t taken. I’d be totally fine with a Night Elf / alliance only set of quests that explored in a more meaningful way and depth the fate of the people who died at the burning of Teldrassil. But instead we got a really poor cinematic of Elune going “woopsie”.

You’d think that warriors and their connection with the Halls of Valor would also get something a little bit more interesting inline with the Vrykul and Bastion. I’m told that during 9.1 quests that involve Odyn, he doesn’t even nod or acknowledge warriors differently compared to other classes.

I’d be really keen for a more evergreen version of the Order Halls. Every addon just brings some unique class specific quests. So you know, they stop asking me as a dk to go save forest critters, and actually send me do “what living can not”.

Ah yeah, that thing, that I got, and then nothing more was ever said about it again.

It’d be nice if they used the content draught at the end of an expansion to chase up forgotten things from past expansions.

Or just did a expansion that wasn’t meant to do big new things, but that does nothing but follow-up on… well, anything they can manage within 2 years.

That would be wonderful. Have a catchup expansion. It’d be easier to do, less grand scale. Just a lot of mini stories as opposed to one big one.
Kinda like another cataclysm expansion, redo the old world, but modernise it. Then they don’t need to go plucking out anything slightly rude either, they’ll have remade the old world.

Actually considering we went in there to Save Uthers severed soul, I find it pretty likely the next instance of Torghast would be something along the lines of saving more souls from there, and maybe even sever the connection to the jailer to cripple his forces now that he is gone elsewhere… That could easily fill another patch of extra Torghast, and with the Sylvannas soul-sever scenario happening by the end of the raid, I find it highly likely

It’s not a bad idea, my only concern is how will this feel new? 9.0 was very much venthyr themed, with a bit of maw / domination aesthetic. 9.1 massively focused on the maw / domination stuff, and we got to kill the big looming threats of 9.0 (Taragrue, Eye). Walking now in Torghast and seeing the Taragrue chilling in some of those middle floors already feels silly. We’ve killed the Painsmith, who apparently is responsible for making all the torturing devices and traps within Torghast. It just doesn’t feel threatening any more! I mean sure they can add 6 more layers, and another slightly differently themed wing.

It won’t feel fresh though. Sure we can get some cool quests where we go in there and sabotage a bunch of things or save more souls, but right now, as far as we’re aware, The jailer is somewhere else and nearly all his major lieutenants are killed. Do they add another “oooh actually there’s this other spooky thing which is very threatening spooooky boOooOOoOooO”? Thinking about it, this whole expansion is a “spoooky mysterious threat you didn’t know existed” so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.

Feels like 9.2 will bring a new different aesthetic, probably focusing on the First Ones and other weird things we haven’t seen. I just hope that raid won’t have another set of 10 spooky spiky armored dudes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are still interesting lore explorations, like saving notable souls as you mentioned. Maybe we’ll find the key to defeating the Jailer, some element of his weakness in there. Maybe Arthas’ soul has “special place in hell” (though they better deal with this really, REALLY, carefully). I’m just unsure as to what will make it in, as OP mentioned further up, so much stuff seems to be cut out.

Oh, and since I read the idea elsewhere… The Blades that were crated from Frostmourne were used to absorb the energy from Sareras’ sword. Pulsing red energy. Going directly into a Jailer-affiliated weapon. Also, the Arbiter was struck down by some red energy. Might be Denathrius, sure, but it would be kind of fun if the DK player was to blame for the Arbiter’s slumber.

I mean like half of the Artifact weapons had some sort of Nethrezim connection.
