The class-race combo restrictions are stupid and here's why

At this point in time, the “fantasy” that you guys reinforce this stupid limitation with is irrelevant. I’ll give you some examples:

Lightforged Draenei Rogue
A Lightforged Draenei is quite literally glowing all of the time. It’s in the name, LIGHT. You’re telling me this race is now justified to be stealthy? Come on.

Tauren Rogue
Same thing with Lightforged Draenei, except they’re absolutely massive and probably make a ton of noise when they move. This combo just looks silly and you know it.

Kul Tiran Druid & Shaman
It’s… a human. You’re telling me because of some vague cultural difference, this race is justified to be able to shapeshift or call upon the elements? Regular Humans and Night Elves have been allies for a while now, even giving the Night Elves their own space in Stormwind City (the old Park). Dwarves and Humans have been allies for even longer. Are the races in WoW completely inept of learning from one another? Oh wait, no they’re not, because Dwarves learned to be Paladins from Humans. I’ll get into Paladins later…

Void Elf… anything except Shadow Priest
This race was cast out of Silvermoon specifically because the void magics they specialised in was triggering the Sunwell or something. To reach the point that they did, it would have been their only profession. But they’re capable of mastering Pandaren-style fighting, wielding heavy weapons and shouting battle cries, and play a HOLY spec? Hopefully you’re seeing why these restrictions are stupid by now.

I want people to keep this in mind as well: It took until CATACLYSM for Humans to be Hunters. There was a point in time where Blizzard actually thought that a Human wasn’t capable of holding a bow/gun. There are several combinations in this game that should exist but don’t. I’ll go through some here:

Paladin
A Paladin is just an omegaPriest, and as we all know, every race can be a Priest at this point in time. Just think how cool Undead Paladin would be. Also, Delas Moonfang. Look her up!

Monk
This is very blatantly an outdated limitation. If a Tauren can be a Monk, a Worgen can DEFINITELY be a Monk.

Gnome Druid
I know what you’re thinking. This is a meme, I know. But… Botany IS a field of science, and Gnomes have likely grown an interest in enhancing their forms ever since meeting Mechagnomes. Just something to think about.

Dracthyr
Void Elves are supposedly one-trick ponies as well, but in the game they’re far from it. What justifies this race only being able to be Evokers? Because it’s the only race that can be an Evoker? SPEAKING OF WHICH…

Evoker
Dragons choose their Visage. They appear however they wish to appear. Dracthyr though, are limited to a half-elven abomination with skin conditions. When dragons choose their visage, their draconic heritage is rarely ever visible. You can’t help it as a Dracthyr though. Evoker should be accessible to all races, with the “Dracthyr” form being a part of the class rather than the Dracthyr race itself.

There’s so much more…
There are many NPCs in this game that exist that go against all rules put in place for us, the players. Also, in the lore, the player character isn’t some average joe. We are, canonically, incredible individuals who are capable of doing anything. Cultural differences should not matter, at least to US.

and let’s be honest. A Gnome Druid would make more sense than the entire story of Shadowlands. Let’s make it happen!

Lightforged Draenei Rogue - Male Worgen are taller than the male and female Draenei

Tauren Rogue - yes they are massive, 600 - 1k pounds, which is another silly race/class combination

Kul Tiran Druid and Shaman - I don´t see anything wrong with them, Drust is the shadow nature magic that blessed them, Shamans have waters and Kul Tiran Humans worship with them

Monk - yes, Monks are very very agiled fist warriors with these kicks and fists, so Tauren Monk is against the lore, NOT the worgen monk

Worgen are skinny which makes a huge potencial to be monk

Shadowlands stories are messy bruh, not so cool

I would say shadowlands is an expansion with the second worst Warcraft stories/lores

BFA has the worst lore

because they took away Zandalari and Kul Tiran warlocks, and also paladin from Kul Tiran, while they had the lores about warlock and paladin before WoD

Also Nazjatar was supposed to be their own expansion, same goes with N´zoth

And BFA was supposed to be only the war instead Allying themselves when Azshara pulled our ships to land Azshara´s homeland, and then Ny´alotha appears the threatening

also the fox race and mechagnome came here, but they are added from Nowhere while we could get Vrykul and Ogres during BFA

and then Zul stabbed the King to serve the blood gods

and when Battle for Dazar´alor began, they Killed Rastakhan but the Horde heroes and Nathanos failed to Kill Jaina (The avenge)

Rogues can be the classic “Ranger” too.
i think this class is one of the most lore versatile ones, since it can be depicted as an Adventurer too. (Stealth isn’t necessarely in the lore, but it stays for gameplay reasons. +have you considered mages can become invisible with magic? couldn’t they do too?)

rogue’s can be the “Pirate Class”, not necessarely the “Stealth” ability fits in the lore, but the pirate aspect of it? It does fit, since there are Tauren Pirates.

In the lore, Kul Tiran druids are basically the people in kul tiras who follow Ulfar, who teaches how to use the powers of the drusts.

As for Shaman: Have you done the kul tiras Questlines? the Last zone kinda explains that.

at first, it was stupid, but the priest class was added for the only lore reason there were ONLY shadow priests. The Holy spec and the Discipline spec were just for gameplay reasons since you can’t exclude a race from a class spec.
then they added the High elves customisation, kinda making those specs have more sense.

Yes, Every race is a priest Worshipping they’r Respective God.
the only way it could make it work is that each race has Class Skins.
like, Nelf paladins, Only Elune Themed pally Abilityes etc.

I’ll give you this: You’re actually right here. Monks can be the average Traveler in lore, so it makes no sense that goblins or worgens can’t be 1. (plus, monks have a Fist tmog who has no texture, so it could even be a worgen using his claws to attack).

i mean, the only way i could see this work is that, they have robotic druid forms and they are piloting the machines, and for magic. Either balance uses Artificial Light for things like Wrath etc.

For now, Dracthyrs in they’r past have been trained to be EVOKERS ONLY by neltharion, leaving no choice to other classes to be possible. This will probably fall in time as they adapt to the world around them, making them unlock the other classes.

i don’t agree here, but i have a similiar idea: Make Dracthyrs choose they’r visage between 1 of all playable races, or at least, start by adding the ones most used, such as all Belf, Nelf and Human forms, and then add slowly by time all the other visage choices.

They should have stuck to their guns with their initial restrictions intsead of heading down this slipperly slope that has lead to such stupidity as Tauren rogues and people wanting gnome druids. The races and classes felt more special with restrictions on them.

Evokers are not meant to be very good at the visage form - it shows (the artwork is terrible and you all look like rejects from Drag Race) in game. Stop trying to merge everything in to the same thing. Removes any identity that is left.

Rogues can be Both Rangers as much as hunters, just using Daggers or any weapon in 1 hand.

i think lorewise, the most versatile class is Rogue, since it can be: Aventurer, Explorer, Ranger, Pirate…
as well as a Thief, or an assasin.

i think these are probably the ones that will come soon since the Primalists and Monks being a Traveler type of class.

If all races use the “light” paladin, Then absolutly NO.
If they give each race a reskin of pally abilityes in theme of that race, Then yes.
Same for Druids.

Grimtotem has rogues.

WoD gave us Draenei rogue npcs.

Legion gave us playable gnome hunters because of one npc, but a night elf becoming a paladin was not enough for us to get night elf paladins…

Zandalari, a troll race. Trolls who treat curses, hexes and spritis as a hobby can’t be the class that specializes in curses and soul ******* Warlocks. Evem though Vol’Dun is filled with them.

Tauren can be outlaw rogues. The second last boss in Deadmines is a Tauren outlaw rogue.
Rogues are not born in the lore afaik, rogues are shaped, and they use shadow magic, so a tauren can definitely be a rogue.

Their goal is to eventually open up all classes for all races. They’ve stated as much.
It will just take time.

They already stated in an interview before dragonflight that they want to move away from race restricted classes.

“We want to move towards a world where the race of a character is not a limiter for what they can do or what they can become in the World of Warcraft ,” Holinka said.

And anyone can respond to that easily and without reading the entire post.

Class-race combos are not stupid - and they have an obvious purpose.

And all you need to do to realise your error in thinking
is to visualise these ‘new combos’ that you think you want.

You think you do, but you don’t.

  1. Undead Druid - This combo should never exist.
  2. Evoker - Should only ever be available to Dracthyr, because of fire breath and all dragon-like abilities.
  3. At best, Dracthyr should maybe get Warrior, but not other classes.

Blizzard already said they are working to unlock more class-race combos

But class-race combos are not ‘stupid’

They will never unlock ‘everything on all races’, because that is a really stupid idea.

I agree. The only things I disagree with is that the lore has been f***** in the a** for longer than recently. And evoker/drakthyr combo is - in my opinion - good as it is but does need all races as possible visage. It really does. I loathe that elf form, his face is that of a twilight vampire.

This whole class restriction thing should have gone years ago.
