Well, Unholy magic is green. Make an Unholy Dk and you will see that their abilities are green. For example, Death Coil has been green ever since WC III, so I guess your point is that warlocks summon green FIRE. Well, it is not so noticeable, though Blizz could easily put the Unholy DK models just to make it better. For now though we can only hope that Blizz will actually put the Class Skins in the game, whether in the best way possible or not.
Twilight themed abilities for Paladin and Shaman could work.
Warlocks do already have shadowflame though so purple fire would work better. Maybe change chaos bolt to bone spear.
Most of the playable races have tinkerers by now though. Most notably Draenei, Blood Elves, Dwarves and Forsaken though the last one makes a bit more fleshy constructs.
Would it be cool for a class skin to pull a few spec spells from each spec to make up the new class?
It would make it feel different and completely new obviously balancing would be needed
With blizzard’s track record that would mean that spells aren’t just copied over…
Class Skins is an idea because exactly Blizzard said they wont be adding any new spec or class due to hard balancing, though that’s a good idea you are suggesting
I really dislike the idea of class skins, or “allied classes” because it’ll make the game even more reliant on addons. Right now, I have to learn the spells of all 12 classes, what they do, and I have to just know it, in order to know what the effect of something is when I see it go off (this is why I don’t like how warrior skills look like basic attacks, because sometimes I can’t read the ability, but I like it in a rogue, cuz there it kinda makes sense).
Let’s say each class gets 1 class skin. Now the knowledge of spell names I have to learn has doubled. The icon for the same buff that I need to know has doubled. So I’ll need to get the (inevitable) addon that deletes class skins and makes them show up as the original class on my screne.
Blizz has taken lots of care to make abilities readable. What impressed me is how I am able to tell a mage and a warlock firebolts apart. This is good. Class skins will ruin it.
Nah. it would be very easy. You just learn those things, it’s not like they are new abilities where you need to know what each one does. You can very easily learn which abilities have been recolored and renamed. Even if for some it is hard, it is time to make WoW more successful in its RPG part, rather in its “hitting buttons and seeing bars getting empty” part.
I’m up for new classes, but class skins is just clutter. If they want necromancer - add it, it can work differently from warlock (for example, focusing on companions that die quickly and the combat is all about summoning all the time, let’s say) dark ranger too. But there’s zero gameplay gain from class skins, and you know one of the most popular addons will be to delete them. Becaue you can’t just say “just learn double or triple the amounts of spells you had to learn before”. Nah, that’s just silly and it’s not worth it just so your spells could have a different color.
Just I said: It is for the damn RPG part of the game, not for the gameplay, but for the fun. If you just like hitting buttons, leave this discussion, we get it.
people are asking for, basically, green fire codexes but for other styles and classes
if its okay for warlock why not the rest?
If you don’t see the gameplay ramifications of what you want, then I don’t know what to tell you, man. You want to turn the game into a complete mess, where even your class doesn’t mean anything anymore. Why not just add an actual necromancer class that is a class, not just vanity? Dark ranger, the class, is actually coming, silly. Mark my words. It is the next class we are getting.
The game already is a complete unplayable mess of buffs and debuffs where you need addons to organize it and you want to make it worse. It’s not about hitting the buttons, because that won’t change (making the entire thing pointless). It’s about how you react others hitting the same buttons at you. Where before one button meant one thing, now one button means 3 things and you have to know all of them.
RPG elements are new classes, not different PNGs for the spell effects. Don’t turn WoW into a gacha game where everything is meaningless.
I feel like class skins might be something they wanna do next expansion. It’s too much this expansion with the race customization.
Well, customization is never enough. Plus Necromancers and stuff are things players want 15 years now.
