The Class Skins Idea (Necromancer, Dark Ranger e.t.c)

So this is a desired idea that I am bringing back today, the solution to the “No more classes” decision. I think this idea was created by the community, but either way Taliesin made a video about it a year ago and many people got to learn about it and like it. Check T&E’s video here.
So I am going first of all, to explain what this Class Skins idea is.

The Class Skins
It is an idea for non existing classes to join the game, but as reskins and recolors of the already existing ones. Examples: Demonology Warlock becomes Necromancy warlock, and their minions are now Undead, instead of Legion. Protection paladin becomes Spellbreaking paladin, and their Light spells are now reskined & recolored to Arcane. This is the concept of class skins. Now, lets discuss some ideas for Class Skins.

Class Skins to be suggested in this thread:

  1. VE Disc& Holy priests class skins
  2. Lightforged Shadow Priest class skin
  3. Kul’Tiran Tidesage
  4. NE Priestess of Elune
  5. Worgen Lurkers
  6. NE&BE Dark Rangers
  7. BE Spell Breakers
  8. Undead Lich
  9. Necromancers

Without any more words, let’s see these suggestions

1.VOID ELF PRIESTS CLASS SKINS
Void Elves have gone by free will to the Void, yet you can see a VE Holy Priest using all the abilities of the Light. Well, I don’t know wether Shadow Mend is canon or not, but VE Healer Priests should heal with the Void.
Here is what I mean:
Discipline becomes Imbalance
(since as Disc priests we use Light and Void in balance)
Holy becomes Darkening
Penance- Recklesness (Fires Void bolts)
Power Word: Shield- Shadow Word: Shield
Mass Ressurection- Mass Reincarnation
Holy Nova-Shadow Nova
Halo - Shadow Eruption
etc… (Also the thing that makes Holy Priests Kyrian now makes them Faceless Ones)
You get the idea- recoloring and renaming light to void

2. LIGHTFORGED DRAENEI PRIESTS CLASS SKIN
It is pretty much the same as above, but now all Void abilities get recolored to Light:
Shadow - Inquisition Priest
Void Eruption - Light Eruption
Shadow Mend - Holy Light
Shadowfiend - Lightspawn (I know it is a glyph but whatever)
Shadowform - Lightform
Voidform - Holy Form (the tentacles become wings)
Void Bolt - Light Bolt
And so on. Pretty simple.

3. KUL’TIRAN TIDESAGE
So Taliesin says that Tidesages should be Elemental shamans because of the winds and lightings I guess, which is a good thought, but I disagree. I think it should be a Frost Mage reskin.
Frost - Tide Mage
Water Elemental is now reskined as the boss from Shrine of the Storm.
Frost Nova remains frost nova for obvious reasons
Frostbolt- Waterbolt
Ice Lance - Tide Bolt
Blizzard - Tide (Big Water Bolts replace the ice pieces)
etc, and there we have our very own Tidesage

4. PRIESTESS OF ELUNE
Shadow - Night Warrior
Discipline - of the Moon (which means that in the inspect window it would say first the class (Priest) and then the Spec
Holy - of Elune (^^)
And all the abilites are renamed and recolored as the Night Elven light.
Example: Shadowform - Star Form

5. WORGEN LURKERS
The simplest of Class Skins:
All Worgen Arms Warriors can now hide their weapons and hit with the unarmed animations. Probably to get into that feral concept of Worgens, Arms is now renamed to Fang Warrior

6. DARK RANGERS
So any NE and BE hunter or rogue can now activate the Dark Ranger skin, allowing them to have extra customizations on their character via the barber (red eyes, white skin, etc). Any ability like Arcane Shot is now recolored to the shadow look of the abilities Sylvanas uses.

7. SPELL BREAKERS
So any BE protection Paladin can now activate the Spell Breaker skin, which reskins the entire spec, making all the Light abilities Arcane.
Protection Paladin is now called Spellbreaking Paladin.
Judgement now has the model of Arcane Blast. Avengers shield is now the spell-breaker weapon. Guardian of Ancient Kings… oh well, just gets the model of Prismatic Barrier around you. Avenging Wrath now just gives the model of Arcane Familiar Around you, instead of wings. As for the weapons, as Taliesin said to Blizz in that video, hand them over.

8. UNDEAD LICH
So. Any Undead Frost Mage who activates the Class Skin, is now called Death Mage. Their eyes start glowing like the DK ones. All abilities remain with the same name, but the ice now looks green (like the ice KT has in HotS). The Water Elemental is now a Skeleton Mage. And there we have a lich, which will be very good especially when wearing the Maldraxxus lich set.

9. NECROMANCERS
The last skin I am going to talk about, and my favourite.
Demonology Warlock now becomes Necromancy Warlock
All the Legion guys now become undead. Imp is replaced by skeleton mage. Voidwalker by ghoul. The dreadhounds by the darkhounds, Felguard is replaced by a skeleton warrior, and Demonic Tyrant is replaced by that giant skeleton warrior model and is called: Skeletal Scourgelord
Hand of Gul’Dan is now renamed to Hand of Kel’Thuzad
Eye of Kilroog is now Eye of Acherus.
Demonbolt is now Death Coil
Demonic Core is now Skeletal Core
Mastery: Master Demonologist is now Mastery: Master Necromancer
Fel Firebolt is now Unholy Deathbolt
Enslave Demon is now Enslave Undead and only works on undead (you just put the death knight ability).
All the shadow and fel abilities need absolutely no recolor, because the Necromancer magics look exactly like that!


So this is pretty much the idea, I hope you liked it, and that Blizzard is going to add it to the game at some point. :slight_smile:

I’ve always been in support of class skins for more customization…

They can even use it for new class/race combos if they want.

In a smaller way like this:
For example Night Elves can get Paladins and all their spells have more a “silvery” look to them, to reflect they are holy warriors of Elune, not the Light.
Only thing they really need to do is change the spell animations.

Or in a major ways like this:
Gnome/Goblin “Druids” can have everything mechanized… Effectively making them Tinkers/Mech-Suit Pilots.
When they “shapeshift” they are entering and exiting their mech suits.
“Bear” form is actually a big mech suited for tanking.
“Cat” form is a smaller agile mech for melee dps.
“Moonkin” form is a ranged mech focusing on ranged attacks.
Healing spec can be just the tinker running around on foot healing with tech.
They’ll look completely different from druids and might as well be named different when you mouse over them. But gameplay wise they’ll function the same, meaning there’s no extra class to balance in relation to the others.

Yeah. That’s the best thing about Class Skins. All the skins that I suggested above, would not work as classes because the would be cery much like the already existing ones. The Necromancer would be almost the same thing with a demo warlock, so a skin is the best idea! Especially when it is decided that we will get no more classes, at least any time soon.

While none of the mentioned ‘skins’ appeal to me personally, I do support this idea.

One thing that I want to mention though, since I think it’s kind of a related topic; Glyphs. I think there should be WAY WAY WAY more glyphs that change the look and feel of abilities. There’s so much more that can be done with that system, which is already in the game!

I did always think Tidesage should have been a glyph to give Priest spells a watery appearance.

Or an “offensive” Tidesage can just be a Frost Mage…

Apparently Kul’Tiran Shamans are the Tidesage. So why is someone who is focused on the sea, using earthquakes, fire, throwing magma and lightning bolts and dropping tribal totems…makes 0 sense.

As long as they are optional I’m all for it.

It would be a nice way to add new class fantasies without creating more balance issues. Maybe in an expac we get a new class skin or two available that fits into the theme.

My contribution, Shadow Hunter. A reskin that allows a new class combo by allowing Darkspear and Zandalari to play as “Demon Hunters”

General:
Specs - Havoc becomes Voodoo and Vengeance becomes Mojo

Shadow hunters use Mojo instead of Fury

Same armour and weapon skills.

Havoc - Voodoo abilities
Demons Bite - Snakebite
Chaos Strike - Shadow Strike, deals shadow dmg instead
Eye Beam - Locust Breath, deals shadow damage instead
Immolation - Plague of Flies, deals nature damage instead.
Fel Rush - Somersault
Vengeful Retreat - Backflip
Disrupt Magic - Jinx
Spectral Sight - Second Sight
Blade Dance - Shroud of Bats, disappate briefly into a swarm of bats
Glide - Hireeks Favour, extend shadowy bat wings to glide
Meta - Loa Ascendance: Death, Empower your Rushkah with Bwonsamdis boon, making your appearence resemble his briefly and empowering your combat prowess.

Vengeance - Mojo abilities

Shear - Slash
Soul Carve - Spirit Feast
Demon Spikes - Guardian Spirits
Infernal Strike - Kragwas Bound, deals nature damage
Fiery Brand - Bad JuJu, deals nature damage
Torment - Angry Swarm, vile insects sting the target, angering them to attack you
Meta - Loa Ascendance: Hunger. Kragwa empowers your Rushkah, transforming you into a towering monstrosity and empowering your defensive skills.

General

Soul fragments are droplets of bright purple-blue mojo which you collect from foes.

Customisations
Like DHs SHs receive unique customisations:
Horns - Fetishes, pick from several fetish totems you wear upon your back
Blindfold - Rushkah, pick one of several Rushkah masks you wear over your face, covering it to varying degrees.
Tattoos and colours - same, but different styles.

bruh blizz are so lazy they had to prune an entire spec of mine to implement demon huntards it’s never gonna happen mages don’t even have frostfire bolt anymore LMAO

Well in that specific case the class skin would not be optional of course, but that is one way to show the many things class skins could do. The Void Elves, for example, could get paladins and the High Elf fans would be happy, but the Void Elf ones would be as well, because the VE paladins could have a Void skin. Note that the idea for class skins is mostly about already existing models, so Blizzard could easily add many of them in one week at most.

Sounds too good and too complex to ever be implemented. They didn’t bother adding a new tier of talents, let alone this much work.

Rogue Vampire Hunter skin.

…Would fit very well, especially now that we’re actually getting real vampires in Shadowlands.

This is an ideal way to add tinker by the back door. I mean goblins and gnomes would hardly let principles stand in the way of them emulating natural powers, even if their mecha are badly bastardised robot bears they pilot, doing druidry “the scientific way”.

Necromancer should not only be for demo warlocks. All 3 specs should get it.
Demonolgy-Unholy
Using the plague and summoning undead instead of demons

Affliction-Shadow
Their abilities are still purple/black but a lighter purple like when dks use Army of the Dead.

Destruction-Frost
I think this one would be better for the lich skin. Uses ice, and shadow instead of felfire.

Yes they do. Necromancers don’t summon green fire. They also need to remove the whisper sound effects from affliction’s abilities for the skin.

I agree. They worship the Tidemother, they are basically priests. This would allow Stormwind humans to be tidesages too.
Maybe they could give shadow priests a watery appearance too just like the tidesages that betrayed Kul tiras.

Oh my gosh,YES! I 100% agree! Please, shadow hunters are so cool and shadow hunter is an iconic class for trolls along with witch doctors who are kind of the ranged versions of shadow hunters I guess? I think witch docs should be a warlock skin and instead of summoning demons, they would summon voodoo masks and ghosts.

I umm… I think everyone should be allowed to custimze their characters as they want to…but why on earth did you choose the golden eye option if you are a warlock? It makes me so uncomfortable

Every race should be able to turn into their racial mount as a shaman
Green and mag’har orcs: wolf -but we already have that
Trolls: raptor -but we also have that
Tauren: a small kodo
Hm tauren: moose
Zandalari: raptor
Dwarves: ram
Dark iron: fire puppy I guess? lol
Draenei: since people dislike elekks I will say talbuks
Kul tirans: well…horses?

If tinkers get added I may even consider playing a gnome.
