It’s not really that great when people act the same all the time.
When I’m bored I do a dice roll to see whether I should help someone or ruin their experience.
“Wise people know they know nothing.” - Any Jedi can tell you that
Wisdom would be to accept defeat, learn the lesson it provides and come back better prepared. Gnashing your teeth because nobody ran to your aid does nothing for you.
“helping out” is something that someone does because it makes them feel good about themselves. It is its own reward. But not everyone feels like that, nor should they have to because someone overestimates ones own perceived virtues and feel they are better than others.
So you start the game almost a year after the fact and you wonder where the community is? They’re in stockades and maraudon getting boosted. The others I assume got leveling to do, with the whole boosting thing classic has become retail where the only lvl that matters is 60 so you’re gonna get less people out and about sniffing the flowers.
Online communities suck yes, that’s not new, welcome to it.
You were contesting same quest mobs so they would rather let you die and get all the mobs for themselves.

I am truely very sorry you had that experience and hope it gets better I Rainblood i am too on Hydraxian-waterlords playing as Rainblood and everyone has been friendly and helpfull, it is not hard to find someone in a zone who will group with you for some quests etc…
Sure i felt on the lonely wolf type once or twice who refused to group or even answer(completely their liberty, no big deal) but that kind of behavior never goes very far.
Wish things get better for you and who know maybe we see each others well my back in time version ?
A very truthfull and pragmatic answer though i wonder where would be those level 60 with crazy crafting plans and gears and alt and all f that and those who will be disputing the scarab lord prize if they didn’t help each others somehow and to an extend when they started. Even the mobs happily join to slay us so.
I will! Today I helped a person who got attacked by the pirates in STV. Never remembered his name, nor he remembered mine. But just helping him not die felt cool!
Judging by how the current population is (a) raid logging (b) honor farming (c) gold farming (d) participates in boost runs, I suppose most of those kind of people have left. They have been here, very many of them.
I’m not even sure the current community is really having fun. Mindlessly farming gold so that they can afford boosts. Why play Classic, then? It’s not like raids are particularly engaging, either.
I have been on a 2 month hiatus as well, preceded by a 3 month period during which I just lapsed my sub. (I didn’t even realize until I saw the date on a screenshot.) I could repeat the why, but why.
Looking at the likes and tone of replies, you’re back to this little solo adventure community where you fend for yourself and win, or you are a failure. They would gladly offer you suicide advice, too, if it wasn’t against the forum rules. It’s a harsh world, welcome to it.
To some extent it might be the PvP server mindset. Add the Covid frustration on top of it.
There are some nice chaps in-game, though. Sometimes out of necessity, but some are definitely nice by nature. A week ago played along someone of the opposite faction, he was in the mood to just help (refused to alternate kills - he really just wanted to help).
My personal response to this whole thing is that I’m a hermit. I’m nice to people I play with. But I don’t identify with the negatives in this thread, I despise their sad identities.
Yah, it’s sad and pathetic, if true.
Luckily, I am mostly able to fend for yourself and win, as I play a warlock in Classic. So it allows me to solo a lot of stuff and not be a failure.
The good players often keep to themselves
Everytime i encounter someone while pexing, i get some help (if i ask for it) or at least some buffs.
Someone even agreed to take 1hour of his time to help me with my warrior class quest today !
Contrary to what OP says, the classic community is usually very friendly.
I have notice a bunch of people who are like this.Good players are here just have a reminder the community is so big you will see many weirdos around.
The classic community was pretty good at the start of classic, tons of dungeon runs, people ready to group up for elite quests and people would generally buff/help each other out.
However, you have to keep in mind that most of us have played this game a lot the last 11 months, people are boosting because if you started at launch and like alts, you have like 3 - 4 level 60s right now. We are at that “doing your own thing” time in classic, after the 2 major early raids have been on farm for ages and a lot of people are on break/raid logging.
Most people are just raid-logging or farming consumes for AQ/Naxx, alternatively stacking gold for their epic flying mount in TBC. Some may be prepping alts for the TBC leveling process, but there is little point in farming gear on an alt that will be in tier 2 level gear by Zangarmarsh.
You started late and you missed the best part of classic (at least for me) the 1st level 60 and the pre-bis farm in dungeons.
I think you’ve just had some bad luck. I’m on a PvP server and, as an Alliance, I’ve had Horde help me out. As with any community, it’s actually really nice, it’s just bad apples spoil the bunch. Keep playing and I’m sure you’ll find more people that are more friendly.
People dont have to be “nice” and “community friendly” to fit your cosmetic idea of how the community should be. It is what it is. It’s not the wow comunnity or whatever, its human behaviour. Maybe you dont like you race? Roll orc
There is and always be least one bad apple on every community, classic is no exception when it comes too that.
But there is plenty of good once, just gotta find it.
I agree. It seems like there are a lot of toxic anti-social nerds walking around. But then again, games like WoW attract those kinds of people who don’t even have a semblance of a social life and a lot of online videogames are crowded with these assh*les. A shame.
They would be where they are right now through working together with their guild mates. Or did you assume they got where they wanted to be by rescuing random players out in the wilds?
Helping someone out in a fight (ingame) is something you do because it feels right to YOU and it makes YOU feel good. Sometimes the other person is grateful but i’ve also been told many times to mind my own business.
Dying in a game is often a learning moment and also a matter of pride for the player. They might prefer to ‘die’ over beeing rescued for personal reasons.
I’m not so eager anymore to jump to the rescue these days and first try to observe and make sure the person actually wants my help.
And so your rescue was totally inspired by selfishness… no? The next time you will actually relish that feeling in advance.
It has nothing to do with ‘higher morals’ but everything to do with arrogance and selfishness. You also deprived a player of a valuable lesson.
