Hi,
I am a long time player with high experience in PvP (Arena) to be specific. However, I do not understand why the game coded as if it was the word of god and cannot be altered or changed ? The game is quite unbalanced and heavily favor certain players over others. I thought after all these years developers will observe the game, listen to the people feedback who actually experienced the game. Isn’t the main goal is to create a game that the people enjoy ? at the moment many people don’t enjoy it and just hoping they login next day to see a change. I will just drop each of my points with a solution to the issue hoping for a miracle to happen.
The first issue is being stuck in realms that doesn’t have many pvp players where the big pvp realms are locked.
Solution :
Simply make it possible to cross realm group (queue) for arenas! Another solution could be buffing a dead realm (where population is low) give them free transfers there and buff XP x3. Nobody want to spend 3 weeks leveling a character and then another 3 weeks gearing up. People want to enjoy the actual expansion rather than having to wait for fixes or spend entire phase 1 leveling characters in different realms hoping for better PvP experience.
The fact that Arenas are not balanced any more and favor certain setups in 2v2 specifically. For example, we all see how holy paladin/war or dk is no skill based setup. Paladin have so much mana sustain compare to other healers and can never go oom. This is their key advantage for dominating any setup, no skill required. I literally have zero mana as disc priest against Holy paladin while they still has 80% of their mana. As if we had zero impact in the fight. Sacred shield and mana sustain are the two main things that makes paladin overpowered healer compared to others. Resto druids and resto shamans no longer have a place in 2v2 because of this imbalance.
Solution :
Increase the mana cost of Sacred shield or the mana cost of healing spells or implement a CD on sacred shield.
We are almost there for phase 2 and yet shadowmeld is bugged and doesnt work at all. How is this for a classic experience? We are not even given the chance to race swap at all. So people like me playing arena with no racial vs people with racials and call it a fair fight.
Solution :
Hire somebody who can do the job. Clearly nobody wants to do it in blizzard.
I totally believe allowing PvE gear to be used inside of Arena is ruining the PvP experience. Just like how TBC was relying on RNG so much and wotlk was supposed to be the opposite, gear is somewhat an RNG method. First, the simple fact that some are too lucky to get the pieces they need while others are not. So it results in an unfair match up. Another reason is that healers cannot benefit from PvE as much as DPS classes. Its not like I can equip full PvE offsets as a priest and dominate as much as a warrior or rogue with full PvE offsets. All healers (except hpala) are in huge disadvantage in this matter.
Solution :
simply dont allow PvE items in Arenas or only allow 1 or 2 pve items to be used only! not more than that.
I understand that many people may not agree with me, but I hope that they try to see my point of view and share with me theirs. At this point, I dont care if I am wrong or right, I just hope to see a change that balances the game to where it can be fun, challenging, and enjoyable; a fast change not in next expansions
Don’t really have much of an opinion on 90% of your post, but cross realm Arena lead to a brief spike, then sharp decline in arena participation when they first introduced it years ago in retail
Disagree with all the whining about holy paladins. Agree on cross realm and shadowmeld. At least unlock the realms. Thekal has 12k pop and still locked
of course you would, human holy paladin on firemaw that wasn’t even playing on TBC. So you got this character specifically for WotLK, picking the most OP class and race on the only PVP alliance server on EU. Just get out of here
Gonna love it. Another “I will fix arena” thread hitting the same notes as always:
Balance changes based on feelcraft and nerfing stuff that op doesn’t play
Proposing big system changes without considering dev investment, any decisions made by blizzard so far or potential issues down the road
Not a single consideration that MAYBE arena participation was always relatively low because it’s a very niche game mode that is not appealing to most people playing the game
“Just do X, trust me bro”
I understand the frustration, that NE racial should probably be fixed (although everyone discussing it fails spectacularly to provide any valuable information on the topic). There are big issues with pvp in general like resi not working all that well but I am not sure how making the same thread on forums once per week and complaining about how game works on fundamental level is supposed to help with those.
There’s a ton of stuff that happened cumulatively over the years that broke PVP. If I drew a comparison between Arena and, for example, a 100m Olympic race… then what we have now in retail is the equivalent Takeshi’s Castle/Ninja Warrior, not 100m sprint. They just kept adding things and adding things. Maybe “The Running Man” Would be a better comparison cause no one really wins. Things just get worse.
The biggest mistakes (apart from stat-inflation and insane haste levels by late wrath) Blizz made was giving classes knockbacks and abilities that “ignore” CC effects. Ghost wolf for example ignores slows, DK’s have 3 separate abilities that ignore various CC, and Thunder-Storm knockback and typhoon are just terrible ideas in a game where positioning your team is a skill.
Suddenly someone walks up to you and presses a button, and the position you’ve fought to gain is gone. Now all that’s left is who can pump the most DPS - and 30% haste casters win that battle most times.
?? Are you trying to say paladins are not ultra broken or what? So far i faced paladins in like 80% of my games (while facing 2 resto shamans in 3s and 3 in 5s during whole expansion)
Well most realms are locked and if you check for example pyrewood vilage ladder there are like 10 people playing pvp. People are not even able to swap realms and play with their friends. I have seen more people with this issue than I can count. Most of them quit. I didnt know its wrong to make suggestions to obvious huge issues.
It was not tho? Why should anyone “MAYBE” consider something that’s obviously wrong?
Probably??? It should 100% have been fixed months ago. The fact it wasnt fixed with release and months after is offending.
Less QQ more pewpew is the only way how to fix pvp …
PvP is by definition toxic cesspool of sweaty tryhards … but people dont want that, they want afk and get free goodies, flexing they can push one button for big numbers to appear …
Of course paladins are strong. We knew they will be strong since day 0 and it’s not even close to being “ultra broken”, release DKs were ultra broken, release Vial of Shadows in cata was ultra broken. Wotlk holy paladins are just a strong class in a game that never was and never will be balanced in PVE or PVP. Not to mention that entire idea of classic is playing through this jank, that’s why we went through full expansion (or base game rather) of World of Warriorcraft.
The issue is Blizzard seemingly doesn’t consider any participation metrics for those decisions and they literally voiced a desire to remove cross realm functionality instead of adding them. People are free to give any suggestions but imo it’s better to focus on more realistic solutions. Otherwise we may as well suggest removal of sub fee.
Are you really trying to make an argument that there was ever a point of time in the history of the game where majority of end game participation was in arena? I don’t think that there is accurate data from old expansions but both classic and retail and content development since the game exists seems to be fairly clear on this. Arena is an aftertought for most players, nothing wrong with that. The fact that anyone is playing it is actually impressive considering that game itself and participants are very hostile to anyone who wish to step in.
Yes, probably. I don’t even know if proper research was put into this, we don’t know if this can be fixed or if potential fix is worth the effort on back end. Some people think that there is a lever somewhere at Blizzard that change shadowmeld behavior and the only issue is that someone is wilfully not pulling it. In reality, it’s most likely more complicated. I will admit that all my knowledge of this issue comes from people vaguely complaining on forums about it every now and again so feel free to share any details on this.
Yes: holydin+warr, Resto Druid+warr, Resto Shammy+warlock and all of them prey for setup rogue+retri or warrior+retri coz it’s easy rating points for them.
Implementing cross-realm arenas now that we have no teams will just introduce a massive influx of boosters and thus even less people will reach their desired arena ratings and more people will quit playing arena altogether.
I’m also against changing class balance. The point was to recreate the original game, and here you have it. Everyone knew way beforehand which classes are OP. It is like you had a time machine to go back in time and see which lottery numbers win, yet you still decide to put wrong numbers on your ticket and then complain about not winning. Just… why? You knew this would happen. Should’ve gone for the OP Fotm class
Mate, did you even pass 2k rating in Arena to begin with ? I am not trying to offend you by my question but to point out the fact that those who have experience are not the same as those who cant even climb for easy rating.
What I am pointing out here is a real issue that is killing PvP for hardcore arena players.
How are we suppose to do Arenas if we cannot find decent partners ? Obviously pve is so much doable in every realm but not the same as Arena, specifically 2v2 and 3v3.
How do we climb for higher Ranks such as Rank 1 if we have to face hpal/something above 2.2k where it is no longer a skill base fight. There is no chance to compete no matter how skilled you are. Go ask anyone on top 10 that doesn’t play paladin.
The whole point was to experience the original game ? fine. Where is RDF ? why do we have bugs that wasn’t there ? why cant we create arena teams like it was back then ? why there is boost services from blizzard themselves ?
I tell you why, they wanted to improve the game. So, improving the game means that you make a better version of it without changing it completely.
Ironically your example of lottery ticket is on point. Why would you recreate the game with the same mistakes that was done 12 years ago ? Why would you make it even more boring than it was ? Back in the day, people didnt know anything but now they do, which means they found out the loopholes in this expansion. This is even more reason to improve the game to the better.
Looking at the stats, the class representation is significantly more balanced in all levels of play compared to TBC. In S4 priests, druids, mages and rogues combined made up 70% of the glad population in 2s and 80% in 3s. Pallies were getting dumpstered for the entire expansion, give them some slack especially since they aren’t even that far ahead of priests.
