At present they don’t feel customisable enough in any way - the colours you get to choose from are so basic and ugly, we only get tacky, too-bright, cartoonish power ranger colours to choose from.
It sucks anyway that we can’t use our regular flying mounts but it super extra sucks that the 4 mounts we get to choose from are so similar to everyone else’s - am I on crack here or does anyone else think the customisation is severely lacking?
Yes there’s lots of options to choose from in the dragon customisation menu but most are for stuff that is barely visible especially when flying around - like amount of spikes on the tail and some tiny dots on the back, etc.
Give me mana-infused purple, light pink, actually jet black (not brown with yellow highlights), forest green with leaf customisation (not slime green), infinite dragonflight, nightmare, faerie dragon, etc etc etc - some fun and interesting colours/themes to pick from! Go all out - include ALL dragons.
I like the green one and the bronze one. The protodrake is fine, but everyone had like 10 protodrakes before the expansion started and the blue one is just a generic dragon.
Otherwise I think they look fine. It’s just that skin color, which is the main cosmetic change is locked behind high renown levels. So they all look the same, but once more people unlock more skin color options, the mounts will be more diverse.
The problem with drake customization is that outside of the customization interface, most of the details we can change are almost impossible to notice (Do people actually notice details like different horns on dragons?), so we basically just see 4 models in 5 colours, and a whole lot of noise when a bunch of them come together (Like waiting for the siege or cooking event to start)
I hope Blizz is hard at work enabling more mount types for this form of flight (Start with the ones that have lots of variants, like wyverns, hippogryffs, dragons, and gryffons), the lack of mount variety is pretty jarring when i think of how many flying mounts exist in the game.
I don’t think they are ugly but I do think colour/pattern is probably the most noticeable feature of our mounts. It would be nice to get more variation with that.
I definitely think so. But not only that; I just don’t like those mounts: The design doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t want to ride them. I want my trusty gryphon back.
For that alone I want Blizzard to add old fashioned flying to DF now rather than later (not to mention the plethora of other reasons).
I wanted to ride the Velocidrake because it uses the pterrordax skeleton, and I love the pterrordax. However the green is so ugly (imho). Why can’t it be purple. WHY?
I’m also not a big fan of its other cosmetics. I think it’s time to just allow dragonriding with mounts that use the same skeletons. There’s so many proto-drakes, there’s a lot of wyvern type mounts and pterrordax models. We’d have so many more options.

Yes. I did not even read rest of your message you are so bloody right. Blizzard gave us 4 ugly, terrible dragons to choose from, so you go anywhere there are players and all you see is the same dragons everywhere. At least with flying mounts you get dozens upon dozens!
It’s terrible, when i’m waiting for the siege event to start, and the whole place is just a big lizard-farm, most of the customizable bits are too subtle to be noticeable, so colour aside, they all look alike, and the noise… >_<
