As we all certainly have noted by now, the Burning Crusade is looming in the very near future of Classic. Bearing in mind what we learned from Blizzconline, an exact replica of TBC is not happening - there WILL BE changes. So far we’ve learned of things like the character boost, copy etc. Things that definitely weren’t part of TBC experience so to speak. Obviously now that it’s become clear that a #nochanges philosophy is out of the window and #somechanges has instead taken it’s place, I feel what this does is raise plenty of questions on what these changes will be.
Observing these forums it appears that a couple of potential changes stand out, but unfortunately many have been far too cautious to seriously vouch for them, so I’ll name them as the “elephants in the room”. So let’s take a look:
Dual Spec
An obvious one. With the introduction of the arena, many will look to do both pve and pvp and to expect people to level to characters for this purpose is simply unfair. Moreover the respec cost of 50g in and out of the pvp/pve spec is meaningless as we have seen already: People are constantly complaining about too much gold in the economy so the respecc cost as a gold sink is pointless and serves no purpose.
Transmog
Visible gear progression was a big part of Classic, but I feel the argument no longer holds water. First of all, with the introduction of TBC a plethora of new items were made available through honor, arena, raiding, badges and heroics. So much more viability when compared to Classics rigid BiS lists. All of the designs, artwork, textures, models are wasted if everyone ends up looking the same in the end with T6 or Gladiator gear. Transmog is not a gamebreaking change as it will not change the meta in any way (unlike tinkering boss values, adding seals and character boosts to name a few). It has no impact whatsoever on how the game is played.
Before I invite everyone of you friends here in the forum to join me in this discussion, I must say that I’ve been pondering these two points ever since we learned about TBC Classic in Blizzconline, and unfortunately I’ve had to write this post in quite a rush midwork so please excuse me if it feels a bit “raw”. I however, hope this thread serves as a good starting point for valid discussion so people will feel more comfortable talking about Dual Spec and Transmog as TBC features.
I’m fine with changes, but not with introduction of new features. Dualspec remove spec identity and move to class identity. I’m no longer protection paladin, but just paladin. Transmog is new feature that does not belong to TBC. Look of gear is also important. Sometimes it even make me decide what to choose in classic.
I completely agree. I like transmog myself so I can customize my character gear and come up with the look that I am interested to play as. I mean the looks are really important for me thats why people enjoy doing transmog runs and revisit old content if that is new expantion go back to farm peace of gear you really like the look of it even tho I must agree that making transmog in tbc would be not in my favor. I would still like transmog option but It will be hard to tell in pvp what type of gear enemy is using even tho you can still tell if you attack him just by looking at his health or mana pool. I think it still would be unfair because people want tbc as close as it was to original back in a day ( ofc without bugs, mechanics or design that was not intended to be made by designers or engineerers but somehow people discovered those exploits, bugs etc ).
Imagine if Blizzard has to add all the beloved retail features of each players. What would be the result ? Yeah, it’s retail but with the old talent tree. Woah.
No one is complaining about the seal for both faction or the #Change of features FROM TBC.
We aren’t narrow minded boomer or something like that. We just want TBC.
Who trust Blizzard in 2021 to provide proper features in a Classic version ? I don’t.
They are already putting a 58 boost. It’s clearly enought.
Just wait the proper expansion for both : transmog & dual spec.
And THIS is one of the reasons why so many people are so firmly against the pay-to-win boost!
You open that gate, and it just starts the torrent - ‘Oh we have pay-to-win boosts, so why not transmog? and if we get those, why not Dual spec? Why not Dungeon Finder tool? Why not LFR? Why not cash shops? Why not WoW tokens? Why not remove talent trees… and reagents… and give mounts at L10, and scrap vanilla quests, adding Shattering quests instead? Why not Pandarans, and garrisons and, and and…’
I’m kind of looking forward to the charm of having no transmog in TBC. It was comical running around in Classic but there are even more vibrant colours in TBC.
I remember back in they day a friend actually ran two rogues so he could have one for PvP and one for PvE.
Elephants are wise animals. And their most interesting feature is their memory. An elephant can remember why a lot of these features made retail shallow and unrewarding.
Transmog is a terrible thing for an MMORPG because:
quality gear usually looks better, especially high end set items and give you the incentive to work for them. A green geared fresh 70 warrior transmogging his green shoulders that give intellect and spirit to look like a real badass is harmful to the game.
You can estimate your opponent’s power by looking at his gear and pick your fights accordingly, for instance, when I play my p2 geared alt hunter and see a warrior with might of menethil and naxxramas gear I usually just hit my shadowmeld and let him be. Transmog takes this element out of the game.
Dual spec is not that bad, but still better not be in the game. It makes you choose your talents carefully, have an identity with bound to your spec and its a good gold sink that helps balance the massive amounts of gold that players have.
Both of these changes are much better than a instant paid boost, which is a dealbreaker for me personally, but still should be out the game because they don’t have a place in the TBC game design. The game is designed carefully in its own mechanics and that’s why we want to play TBC and not an abomination.
Well before they’re even thinking about it, think about this:
The masterlooting system is not build for it and:
[22:52:33][Masterlooterxx] has looted [bis item for dps warrior] but is main tank himself
[23:00:28] [2] [Angrydpswarrior]: everyone, don’t group with Masterlooterxx, he ninjaed the bis item i needed for his transmogset!! >:-(
