Indeed. One can be in an Elite without being Elitist.
Elitists want a system that prevents everyone from being able to access what the Elite have access to.
Elitists hate LFR as it allows everyone to access some of what Mythic Raider can access.
They like systems like attunements as these prevent new players getting into certain areas.
They are generally lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to get something and want to prevent others from getting that thing.
You may be lucky enough to get into a good guild and get carried to a mythic completion but then think that everyone who ended up in a bad guild donât deserve to get a mythic completion.
To get to the top of anything requires more than hard work, there is luck, timing, help from friends and family. Elitists think they alone got to the top by only their genius and anyone else doesnât deserve to get to the top (even if the top is just a few boss kills).
Not really, if that was the case, theyâd hate NM and HC raids too
Sadly removing LFR rn will do more harm than good, but implementing it was a big mistake, itâs basically an afk content, and game needs less of that.
Youâre a classic example of âFAE - Fundamental attribution errorâ
In social psychology, fundamental attribution error, also known as correspondence bias or attribution effect, is the tendency for people to under-emphasize situational explanations for an individualâs observed behavior while over-emphasizing dispositional and personality-based explanations for their behavior.
HEHE YEH THEY GET IT CUZ THEY LUCKY BUT ME BAD LUCK!!
Like, people achive things, mostly because of their ability to be able to achieve things, its not a roll the dice and whoever gets higher number wins lmao.
Did you miss the part where I said "requires more than hard work, there is luck, timing, help from friends "?
Sure, effort and ability are a big part of achieving anything. But those who do not achieve the same are often capable of achieving it had they a little luck or help or been there at the right time. You are basically doing what you accused me of doing. You accused me of not mentioning effort or abiltiy and putting it all down to luck (which I did not) but you donât acknowledge that luck or timing play any part in achieving anything.
My point is that those who wish to limit access to something theyâve achieved are âElitistâ. Not everyone who achieves something wishes to stop others.
Finding a good guild or community is huge luck in and of itself. A good guild probably plays more than 2 or 3 percent in whether or not you get a mythic kill. No-one who kills mythic NâZoth got there purely 100% on their own skill. There are many things in the game where âGET GUDâ wonât be the answer.
This was basically my life in TBC, although I did at least know I was rubbish. I had⌠so much learning to do
We do get intermittent forum posts about wanting less levels of raiding though - and of course the only difficulty should be mythic equivalent
Which is arguably how it was for quite a long timeâŚ
Mmm⌠a little either way on this. You can certainly direct the broad strokes of your future, e.g. when hunting a guild you can hit up the forums, various discords, etc, and give yourself a much better probability of not going through a chain of duds. You canât guarantee anything, but you can tilt the odds.
But sometimes you just end up talking to the right people at the right time and oh hey, theyâre forming a guild right now and theyâve talked with you on this forum a lot, so sure if youâre interested you can join. Which was my first raiding guild, and we spent 3-4 years competing for realm firsts
â
As to why you two are arguing about the level of agency we have in our own future, I have no idea how you got onto that
Not entirely sure how we got here. I was trying to define what I though an Elitist was. For me itâs someone who manages to achieve something (whether through skill, luck or both) but then wants to prevent others from achieving it so that their achievement is more rare.
I wasnât trying to say all people who achieve something are elitist.
Depends on what it is to be fair. I definitely donât want them to re-release the realm first titles/achievements. I wouldnât want gladiator mounts re-released either. Iâm completely fine with them adding new ones each season, but the old ones should remain legacy for good.
Things like Cutting Edge or the end boss mounts though, I donât care much for. They can easily be boosted to, since clearing the raid tier these days before the next is released is way too easy a requirement for it to matter. Itâs honestly more of a âI just didnât play/raid at the timeâ kinda deal.
Basically, anything that was a competition against the others playing at that time should not be re-released. With the exception of casual stuff similar to Trial of Style.
The elitist are the people that think itâs good that scaling was removed. The gearmongers, the âI want to stomp lowbies while rationalizing it with something that sounds good on the surfaceâ people.
The people that think they know better than you, the people that rejoice when this zombie event happened, because now they get to have âfunâ by killing and exploding their own factionâs people.
Anyone that says things like âdrama queenâ, âkarenâ (in the wrong way), âcry me a riverâ - you know the type.
Elitist is someone that takes valid criticism and responds to it with âL2P issueâ, âgit gudâ, âu suckâ, or any of the other typical clichĂŠs, while patting themselves in the back for being so clever, unique and original in their, ah, so eloquent communique.
Elitist is someone, who, while being almost completely illiterate (by choice due to attitude), responds to everything with an insult, condescendent attitude or trying to put someone down, regardless of how valid or legitimate the other playerâs comment or question is.
There are A LOT of elitists in this world ⌠of Warcraft.
