The Evoker needs a tank spec

Another “give us tank spec” thread. I know, I know. It’s been done.

What few have pointed out is that how the lack of one is actually incredibly absurd for the story.

Neltharion, Deathwing, the man who was a literal flying tank, who disguised himself as a human warrior using a sword and shield like a Protection Warrior, created the Dracthyr and designed the Evokers himself. And they’re lacking any and all similarity with him.

We have the dps spec which shows mostly Red and Blue. We have preservation that shows Green and Bronze. For the Black flight? The flight that made them, fostered and bred them, trained them… We have 1 AOE stun and 1 DR cooldown.

Tanks are lacking an absorb based style similar to that of the Discipline Priest. We have our regen tanks (DH and DK). We have our straight forward zug tanks (Prot War and Bear). We have cooldown focused tanks (Monk and Pally). Amongst them, we have hybrids/supports (dudu and pally). We have nothing that focused on generating an absorb.

There isn’t a gameplay reason to make the spec absent. The “Earthwarder” theme can be melee, with throwing rocks, making rock shields, exploding said shields, and can largely borrow abilities and animations that already exist, such as the tunnel dig teleport from Legion. You could have a melee, earth themed, Black flight tank.

It makes sense for them to have this spec above any of the current existing. Whilst its absence makes the story have a huge and rather daft plot hole. We’ve seen that despite their strength, most play Evoker as DPS, and we’re still experiencing both Tank and Healer shortages.

Have them get this Black flight themed tank and help further alleviate the shortages. You’d draw existing tanks onto it, as well as some other new players onto Evoker. Which in turn would temp them into healing as well.

The game genuinely needs this, gameplay/community wise, as well as lore wise.

Please, please, please, make this happen.

The Demon Hunter needs a healer spec

Hey if you feel passionate for that, you can always ask for it.

Lots of people think there’s shame for requests over a video game. The fact that there’s want in a video game means it’s still rather healthy.

It’s when it stops when it isn’t good.

DH “heals” by infusing you with fel until you reach 100 % corruption and just poof out of existence like the old alliance king

I don’t actually agree, it wouldn’t make any sense.

The dracthyr were to fill a niche for lithe, limber caster types that the game didn’t really have until that point. So unless they were some kind of new class that was a dodge-tank, it wouldn’t really work for them. A dracthyr in plate armor with humongous shoulder-pads, and a massive two-handed sword? It’d impede everything that make them dracthyr.

If you pay attention to the dracthyr animations? They’re all bouncy, mobile, and prancy. Their run is very prancy. It’s like they’ve got some bird anatomy going on with hollow bones, which may explain their perhaps non-magical capacity for gldiing (flight itself seems more magical in that it uses conjured gusts).

The dracthyr we play don’t look like the drakonid grunts, either. They were Neltharion’s elite guard, meant to be officers, attacking from a distance. And again, that’s what their aesthetic does suggest. They’re highly intelligent, mobile, reflexive creatures.

On the other hand, we’ve the drakonid as an option. I think it’d be better if instead of trying to push a tank class on the dracthyr, which would just lead to so many people demanding “swole” dracthyr—which you know would be a thing, it’d be disingenuous to claim otherwise given the topics we’ve likely all seen about them—and that wouldn’t work. The animations don’t fit, their physical aesthetic doesn’t fit. And I’m not sure I want to kowtow to toxic masculinity anyway. I like the dracthyr being lithe, androgynous dragonfolk.

What I suggest is that they have the drakonid available as an allied race. In this way, those who want “swole” dragonkin can have them. It’d work for the lore. It fits the drakonid aesthetic and their purpose. And it would allow everyone to have what they want without—to say it again—without pushing toxic masculinity on a playable option that was clearly designed with a demographic in mind.

I’m all for drakonid and dragonspawn being allied races. Honestly, the same’s true for sethrak and naga too. I just don’t think it works for the dracthyr, and it’d open the “swole” dracthyr floodgates. So, can we all petition Blizz for playable drakonids as an allied option? I’d be all for that!

To be honest, a Tank spec based on the Bronze powers with some added Black Roars that weak, taunt, remove buffs, etc, would make them a Neo-like “Tank”; bending time to be quicker and dodge the attacks, like Mr Anderson… sounds kinda fun

Agreed. Evoker’s theme and drakthyr lore fits having 4 specs instead of the two.
