You need to get 1 Rune Vessel. I’ve now both acquired & activated multiple legendary Rune Vessels, and the quest isn’t completing. I can’t unlock the runecarver & progress until this is solved.
Did you also had the 2 missives?
According to a comment below if you had them in your bags it may not be recognised, posting them for a very high price on the AH and taking them back then retrying seems to do the trick.
Yes I have. The Missives aren’t the issue.
If you dont have them in your bags, but in your bank when you pick up the quest, you have to go pick them up > abandond quest > and reaquire it. that worked for me earlier.
It is the same if you do not have the base legendary item on your person, but somewhere else

I’ll just borrow your thread for a bit here in case someone else runs into problems with this, as there is a bug currently where you might not get credit for any required items that are obtained via trade specifically.
In those cases the workaround mentioned by Saneko should take care of it, or you can also mail it to an alt and back again and you should get credit when you pick it up from the mail.
Of course a fix is on the way as well to prevent confusion in the future!
Hey, i’m trying this fixes with umbrahide pauldrons crafted by me and those fixes aren’t doing it. Tried to mail it back and forth, nada. I’ll try the AH stuff but come on… You do this profession and questing grind towards a goal and it’s bugged.
Edit: tried abandoning mission, getting it again, and crafting new pauldrons just right there. Nothing. I hope the AH trick works.

I got the same issue and tried mailing alt and AH but didn’t work. I was trying with tailor legendary, than i get leatherworking legendary and done. Mission says suitable to your class, means mail for Hunter i believe.

Same problem here (note: on my main, which is a rogue).
Got both missives and a memory which the quest tracker credits. But the Grim-veiled hood I bought of AH doesn’t get credited as rune vessel. Tried mailing to alt and back, put in bank and abandon quest. Nothing works.

Same problem 2 weeks on… the “workaround” solution for a payed game (for a main quest) did not work for me. I am currently sitting on 3 vessels bought from the AH. I am a new player, I do not have the gold for more “workarounds”. Could the problem be I am shaman and I am buying cloth armor? (as i said, new player - don’t have 50k for mail armor)

@Putkeymyknee: In your case, you’re indeed buying the wrong armor type for your class. Namely cloth, instead of mail.
Well Rogues uses Leather which is “Umbrahide”. You bought the cloth one too, which doesn’t fit your main primary armor.
Is this some specific rule to “rune vessels”? Because otherwise rogues use leather OR cloth. I can equip the grim-veiled hood so I don’t think that’s it.
In-game there is no instruction to buy a specific type of armour, just that it should be a rune-vessel, which I suppose should be equipable.

The quest doesnt say that the rune vessel must be “best slot”, just of suitable type. Cloth is suitable per the games descriptions.

Bought a pair of Umbrahide pauldrons and it still doesn’t work.
Ok so after double checking some stuff, is the rune vessel matching the memory slot you have?
A couple additional fixes can be if you got the correct requirements: To relog/zone out and abandon/retake the quest. Make sure all the items are in your bags when you’re at the location.
Hi, thank you for your answer. You are indeed right. I mustered some gold for a mail piece of armor and the quest worked. Now I have my 1st legendary crafted.
