The "follow npc to a location" quests aren't my cup of tea. Anyone else?

First world problems, I know, but maybe the developers will read it.

I started thinking about this more now that I’ve leveled too many alts through BFA and early on there’s a quest where you’ve got to follow Flynn as he wanders around drunk. You can’t do the quest at your own pace, but got to wait for him to take the wrong route, follow him all the way. It’s especially boring on alts.

I never really enjoyed them either, as the NPC either walked too slow, or there were too many mobs.

Luckily we don’t get them too often nowadays.

But still variety is good. And it’s better than killing 10 boars over and over again.

It was ok the first few times but did get a bit tedious after a while.

I quite liked the old-school escort quests back in TBC or Wrath. Where you’d rescue someone from the back of a cave or top of a tower and had to fight your way out. Could get a little frustrating when the escorting npc would aggro mob or charge into a fight but kept you on your toes.
This was back when high mob density was generally deployed in such questing areas so you weren’t fighting so many mobs generally and these quests were a good diversion. These days high mob density is just everywhere and simply walking 100 yards is like those old-school escort quests.

I dont like the modern escort quests because they are so scripted… no matter how many mobs you killed or cleared the whole cave to get to guy the quest will still spawn 3 mobs at location x, another 3 at location y,… it ruins the immersion compared to vanilla escort quests

I don’t like quests in general.

In a new expansion, the leveling process is the most boring and tedious part, every time.

I like them cause it keep me on guard to help this poor npc!

Oh i hate those so much, especially the ones where the npc stops walking if you go ahead of the npc.
Like “I know where were going, how about you follow me for a change”.

Atleast there was that 1 quest in DF where inatead of riding with the caravan you could just speedrun to the meeting stop & get on with questing.

I like how they handled that one, i rode with them on my main to hear (Well, read actually, but i digress…) what they had to say, but on my alts i just skipped to the next rest point every time, downside is that this only works when the ones you’re “escorting” can feasibly handle themselves, so it doesn’t really work everywhere…
