I was pondering the idea of Horde vs. Alliance and realistic developments for the future. I could see some accepting peace whereas others would still hold grudge. For example, a group of humans could get together with like-minded blood elves to fight their cause, slowly developing to a bigger war, resulting in Alliance and Horde having mixed groups only united by the same goals.
And upon creating a new character, you could choose either Horde or Alliance regardless of whether you are playing a human or a blood elf (or any other character youâd like to play). Much like Pandaren, Dracthyr, and Earthen do at the moment.
What do you think? Do you have any ideas of your own for the future?
From my point of view, there just isnât enough justification for another all-out faction-war narrative.
At least not from the place where the story is now and I also think not from any place in the forseeable future of the narrative, albeit that we donât know much about Midnight and The Last Titan as of now.
The factions arenât necessary for the the story that we are told with the World Soul Saga, in my opinion.
It would be cool if they would be mentioned a bit more or get a bit of spotlight in the campaign, but ultimately they are not needed.
However, after the World Soul Saga anything could happen.
I liked the BFA approach of each faction having a different story (to a point)
What I would remove now though is faction race restrictions.
Let them all be pals for now. Let humans join the Horde and Orcs the Alliance.
Then have something big happens that splits them again, but this time the player chooses what faction they join. Regardless of race.
Plenty undead that belong in the alliance.
Cows 100% belong there
Nightbourne should have been both factions to begin with.
Belfs⌠we all know that argument
Velfs should be both.
Old school factions are pretty meaningless but changing how they work freshens them up.
Sure some people wont like new races in their townâŚ
Even better make us adventures or mercenaries doesnât matter what they call it and let us be part of no faction.
We are kinda a special case anyway so they could just make a story about a guild that formed by both sides that donât care for the factions but that care about holding monsters and cultists and the like in line.
And then we can go everywhere since both factions hire us
What seems to be in the pipeline, at least throughout the World Soul Saga, is that weâre all together, the best of friends, fighting to save the universe from the evil baddies.
And the seeds Blizzard have sowed for the future after the World Soul Saga, also appear to be more unity and friendship, with very little strife and conflict between the factions and the races.
It also fits with the reality of the gameplay, where players are increasingly able to play with each other regardless of faction.
These arenât mutually exclusive. It can be both.
I think the game will continue to allow cross faction activities and offer more of these.
But we can still have a conflict between the factions in lore.
Lore and game mechanics donât always align nor do they have to.
Game mechanics let us go kill the Lich King or Deathwing every day if we want. In game Lore says the Lich King is dead so we shouldnât be able to do that.
In game mechanics have Goblins and Taurens running at the same speed when Lore would have Taurens running much faster. But imagine the game where a Taurn Tank had to wait for a Goblin healer to catch up?
