The Future of Warcraft : Future Expansions

NGL after the Shadowlands reveal, I’ve given up on trying to predict what might be next.

I want an xpac based around the reformation of the ancient Empire of Zul, but this time trolls prevail forever.

Replace all Horde races with different subtypes of trolls. Instead of Tauren, elves and orcs, we will have Gurubashi, Drakkari and Amani. Let’s goooo

No, thanks

Thanks I hate it.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we never get another expansion set in Azeroth again. Think we’re in for a long, wild ride of other dimensions, titan homeworlds and whatnot.

Can’t wait to be proven wrong, though.

Yes I cant wait to again discover a continent that was seventeen nautical miles from the mainland all along

Underwater expansion.
All underwater zones.
But no walking on the sea floor is allowed.
Swimming only.
Oh! And mobs that slow. Oh! And whirlpools that knock you back!
… I can see that going really well. :sunglasses:

We come back from the Shadowlands.
But the cities are empty, ramshackle scaffolds scale the walls and old districts. The smell of fish lingers heavily through the streets and stalls.

Then you catch the glimpse of a wayward fin. You hear the soft, moist slapping of wet feet down the path. And deep down you know. It was inevitable.

World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Murlocalypse.

We did that, it´s called Vashir, and we did not like it. Noone did, in the entire games history. XD

Eh it was fine on any ranged class. It was just melee classes it sucked for.

That had the mistake of making it Naga themed.
No-no-no.

Im talking about the Union of the Lil’ Guys.
Having had a partnership foiled in Loch Modan, they have been given ample time to join forces, mend tithes, and plan revenge.

The Sea has been taken over and lorded over by Murlocs.
The Forests have been claimed, and used by the Gnolls.
The land beneath has been warded by Kobolds.

Man I just want an expansion where the less used races get a chance to shine. Gimme a dwarf expansion!

Full cosmology is my prediction. We might get one for the Light and one for the Void, or for time or whatever.

I also predict no world revamp because the introduction of Chromie Time essentially allows them to wash their hands of “azeroth is in the past” forever.

Post-timeskip Azeroth, faction system removed and replaced by several nations/alliances/companies.

I think they actually straight-up said they won’t do a world revamp ever again and will instead update zones individually whenever they become relevant, like what they did with Darkshore and Arathi.

I think the title “Battle for Azeroth” may have been more definitive than many of us assumed. It wasn’t just a battle for Azeroth, it was the battle, the final one. Not that this spells the end of conflict on Azeroth, of course. But I think that from this point on, the stakes will mostly involve the fate of the universe/reality/whatever rather than just our little planet.

And yes, Legion was in some ways an exception, but the Burning Legion was still very much tied to Azeroth/OG Warcraft and Shadowlands is already nerfing their relevance and power level on top of that.

‘World threatening forces’ would feel a lot more relevant and like they were actually a threat to the world if we got to fight them… in the actual world?

I think that’s just clicked why SL feels so ‘meh’. Like, sure, the new zones are all nice and shiny, but it’s exactly the same burnout I hit in SW:TOR when they made the main story nothing to do with Star Wars/familiar canon. I couldn’t give a damn about the ‘Eternal Empire’, and the writing felt like it tanked because, guess what, when you remove the Sith/Imperial and Jedi/Republic elements, it didn’t feel like Star Wars anymore.

Now we’re fighting in some random otherworld that has no real bearings on the WoW world we know, has a handful of characters tossed in, some with little more than names, and we’re supposed to care despite it feeling like a massive reach a lot of the time. And causing a whole heap of RP related problems.

I don’t want to be harsh on the devs. From what I’ve seen a lot of the normal level folks do care and put a lot of effort into new stuff. But the overall direction is just a big resounding ‘Meh’ from me, and I’d be much more enthusiastic in bringing the base game up to todays standards, doing away with all 2004 era assets and making the WORLD feel alive again…

An expansion where they hire competent writers instead of giving us more Golden-isms. That would be a nice change of pace.

I think Chromie time sort of makes it easier to do world revamps. You can update the world for the current content levels while keeping the levelling content in the chromie time phase.

I really doubt it’s because of Golden that BFA and SL have been trash lore. Her role isn’t narrative design or zone storylines; she mostly just fleshes out the characters out of games in novels, with the occasional writing for cinematics.

I don’t understand why everyone blames the bad writing on one person when this one person is only responsible for, at most, giving Anduin a character beyond “nice young lad”.

WoW’s lore has always been garbage and the only reasons you might have only recently started noticing are that you’re older and have better critical thinking skills or the garbage pile has become large enough to be unstable.
