The game doesn't feel as smooth as it used to

Hello there.

I have 300+ FPS in arenas (according to Nvidia / in-game counter) and a 240Hz display. But, comparing to Wrath, it doesn’t feel that smooth.

I can’t explain what’s wrong exactly, so I wanna know:

  1. if I’m the only one feeling that way;
  2. how do I shape my feelings into a concrete issue (maybe you could recommend a good article on game profiling).
  • Is the display actually running at 240 Hz?
  • Is triple buffering, vsync, FreeSync, or GSync enabled? That stuff prevents tearing but can add a bit of lateny.
  • Is Nvidia Reflex enabled?

Try to get some tool that tracks your FPS throughout the arena match. Maybe the average FPS is 300 but you get spikes where it drops much lower, maybe due to badly coded addons?

You’re not, it has been looking choppy compared to older versions for quite some time even when you’re playing at higher FPS when you compare to older versions of the game.

Because the game is overdesigned, so many variables, so much to figure out, so much to code and get on both aspects (input and output) that the game is optimised as best as it can be, but in general it is absolutely appalling.

Just look at trying to zone into Valdrakken and then compare to how smooth Classic/Wrath is.

The game went too far.

How do I know what addons/WAs have poor performance. Is there an add-on profiler of sort?

Easiest way would be to turn them all off, do some arena fights with an alt, and see if you notice a difference.

This might help: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/addon-usage

Thanks mate. How do I measure other stuff, like FPS distribution and how it correlates with CPU/GPU usage. To put all things together
