The Game is Frustrating, Not Joyable.... Some ideas for devs who will never read this

The problem is in the title.
Unfortunately, there are many of them, but I would highlight a few of them, and I want to share some ideas.

The biggest problem with the game, and it happens in several ways, is that 1-1 people can ruin the gaming experience of many other players.

I don’t think this should happen in an mmorpg (I am not referring to people’s behavior). Technically, the game should be designed in such a way that in such cases the players have the opportunity to repair the damage caused by others. Otherwise, the game can easily become annoying rather than enjoyable, and this is absolutely not good for the game.

I have noticed over the last 20 years, especially after cataclysm, that blizzard often tries to fix these problems with useless restrictions, instead of really helping the players.

<< Here’s one of those for mythic+ runs: >>

When one player quits in the middle of the match (for any reason), the others are unable to continue the game (unless they are very strong), and this starts a process that causes others to quit and completely ruins the rest of the players who would like to continue the experience, one might say the game becomes annoying. I think everyone who plays with a non-fixed team has experienced this. This game mode has been part of the game since legion and no effort has been made by the development team to improve it.

It would be nice if the dungeon could be continued by replacing the members who quit, but I understand that it wouldn’t be good if weaker players were kicked out during the dungeon, just to replace them with stronger ones.

Getting kicked makes no sense in this game mode, because you really can’t continue the game from there (except in a few isolated cases, e.g. if someone intentionally messes up the game while staying in the dungeon - but there are more cases of someone who messes up other people’s games by leaving )

So you could ban the possibility of firing during m+, but if someone quits voluntarily, then you can continue the progress.
But how?

Here are some ideas:

  • the timer stops
  • the rest of the team teleports out to the beginning of the dungeon
  • the wall will become active again as it was when the dungeon started
  • players have the opportunity to replace the members who left
  • using the key, tear down the wall again, start the timer from where it was

This would be an important aspect among average players, so that the wow game experience does not become an annoyance instead of a pleasant one, even if someone quits during the dungeon. Of course these are just ideas, and how it is remedied, actually all 1, but some reasonable solution should be found for this.

<< The second one, when game modes tied to pointless dependencies >>

I don’t know why (although I have some ideas), but developers constantly make the mistake of tying different game modes to pointless dependencies. (See in Shadowlands).
I think there can’t be a bigger mistake in an mmorpg, when the biggest advantage of the game genre is that it gives the players the freedom to relax in another world.
Of course, it’s not about when a specific game mode depends on a related function.

Here is an example:

  • the developers were proud of the latest game mode, delve
  • however, delve cannot be completed from level +4 if you have not played through the lore
  • well, not everyone is curious about the history of the game, and not everyone understands a foreign language enough to understand it
  • why should the given game mode be tied to something that is not directly related to it (don’t tell, because the lore)

I think in every game, but especially in an mmorpg, the focus should be on filling the game with fun game modes, and players can find the game mode they like independent of other game modes, so that they can enjoy that part of the game in the long run.

Players should not be forced to stay in the game in such a way that they are obliged to do things they don’t want, but the game should be filled with fun content and options so that everyone can find something they like.

I don’t know who is responsible for this game design in modern wow, but I think this is exactly why quite a lot of people always leave the game after the initial start, because in the long run the game is concretely not fun, as much as an mmorpg should provide recreation and entertainment for the players.

I’m not saying that no one likes competitive m+ or raid, because they are basically good game modes, but that apart from them, there are hardly any pve game modes in the game that can be enjoyed in the long term, and if a new one is added, then you are obliged to tasks that are not closely related to the enjoyment of that game mode.

That would make the game more enjoyable in long term, if you got game modes that are eternal and not just for the current expansion, that are fun in their own right and don’t force you to do other tasks.

These are just my personal views, but after a tiring day at work I’d much rather play in a virtual world that gives me freedom than in a prison that forces me to do new tasks.

Tl;dr?

i dont think i have encountered more than a couple of keys where i had felt it was unreasonable someone left. there is always a good reason.

its not completionist content.

Too easy to abuse

Way, way too easy to abuse. M+ isn’t really a problem, just the people and that’s solved by not pugging, get some friends, or make some.

Just suck it up. It’s part of the RPG experience, if the game doesn’t come in a language you can read then chances are you’ve zoomed through the main storyline anyway to unlock dailies and other content locked behind the quest chain.

Both of these are a none issue really. M+ could maybe be improved but not how you suggested it.

The rest of the post is just subjective waffle about what is and isn’t fun. Sometimes you have to do things you don’t enjoy to get to the stuff you DO enjoy, and that’s been in nearly every game i’ve ever played, MMORPG or not.
