So, Duskwood is clear for the taking? Prepares the Light.
Retake Brightwood brethren! DEUS VULT!
Jokes aside, shame to see this happen. I am not a big fan of Duskwood because 9 out of 10 times I am there I run into some sort of messed up RP wether it be demon RP or an man’ari eredar assassin working for the Illidari. The only good casual RP I have had in Duskwood was that one time on of my chars was checking out the Tavern’s more delicate goods.
But even so, it is sad to see the community there torn up like this. A community is a community, wether or not other people like it, and I would hate to see any of the communities I am in torn apart like this.
To add some impartial context, here is the in-character advertisement for this meeting/event posted in the Duskwood Community Discord last tuesday:
With the morning dew clearing, spanking new brochures adorned the walls and lamppost of the murky town of Darkshire. A invitation awaiting for signature, stating the following;
“With the departure of the former Guard, the town appears to be slowly sinking into a rabbithole. This will not do, for we have reformed this land anew with our blood, sweat and tears! It is time to gather with all the leaders of spesific landmarks within Duskwood. All those who hold documented ownership are requested to arrive in front of the town hall during 8th toll of the bell. Those who do not, but wish to take part are more than welcome. Yet do not wiggle-waggle your tongue with a foul manner, for we are no barbarians. Each shall have their turn, now it is time to form order once more! PS: Do dress fancy. The attires thus far have been ghastly thus far.”
-With kind regards, Salem Willow.
Particularly note “All those who hold documented ownership.”
As explained patchily on the Duskwood Community Discord, the meeting had something to do with influential RPers in the zone meeting in Darkshire to vote on whether or not a newly arrived guild should be allowed to roleplay as Guards, now that the Onyxguard have left the scene.
In the words of one of the organisers following the fallout of the meeting:
Basically two sides against each other. Other side wished the “Veilguard” that will be a thing soon apparently to become the guards, the otherside supported Augury. In the end a “for” and “against” vote was made to give both six months to see how it goes. All voted in favor. After thatr a contract was left for those to sign who wish. The “For” and “Against” was announced, and some sides became mad about this.
Duskwood Roleplay in general is pretty awful to say the least, you have Demon Hunters/Death Knights roaming Darkshire as if they own the place, it already makes me cringe. But it gets worse when these Death Knights and Demon Hunters make guilds, form cliques and pretend they own the zone to which meta gaming and ooc toxicity spreads everywhere. Overall I see no valid reason for Death Knights and Demon Hunters to be in Duskwood, furthermore there are no established holdings for these factions so it’s just rediculous. Duskwood roleplay suffers from the people who inhabit and disgrace its potential.
And here I thought that ‘you can’t own public places’ was one of the first rules of good sportsmanship people learned in MMO RP.
You don’t need a ‘mayor’ or anything like it for decent village RP. Let the NPC’s have that power.
It would be so much nicer if people played as members of the Night’s Watch instead of inserting their guilds as the ‘new guards’, I mean you don’t even have to make up an edgy name since it’s right there.
In lore it’s because the Night’s Watch don’t exist anymore (not that they can’t exist again) - they got taken over by a cult in Legion and the PC wiped them out. So now not only is Stormwind ignoring them, they’re just on their own. Doesn’t justify the guilds jostling for it but there’s a legitimate reason.
Am I missing the joke here, because if it is - forgive me.
The Night Watch very much do exist, they’re assigned to guard Darkshire as they always have done. It is like saying he Stormwind City Guard was wooed because in Legion we killed a few guards on our rogue characters. The Night Watch is not some elite watch team, it’s simply the Duskwood Watch. Now onto saying they’re dead, do you have any sources? Yes the Commander died, but that doesn’t end a guard force.
From the players own POV in Duskwood when you do it as an assassination rogue you see most of the Nights Watch were corrupt, if any loyalists remain, they are too few to hold the guard.
Even worse, technically, the entire citizenship was slaughtered by them, as when you get there, the only living npc’s are the evil Nights Watch guard corrupted by the Legion.
Althea Ebonlocke is later found as part of the Veiled Hand in Stormwind’s tavern, you kill her with a particularly nasty poison.
The fate of the Nights Watch as of the ending of that storyline is unknown it is naieve to assume they are either around or not until blizzards own lore makes a statement on the matter. Still I can appriciate why some would speculate the guard may still be around in some form.
Yep I know of the rogue (I think it was rogue?) class questline, though I think it’d be safer to assume Darkshire afterwards went back to the status quo as seen ingame.
had something to do with influential RPers in the zone
influential or not, no one should be in control or represent the law in WoW, especially since RP guilds are known for Clique mentality and for acting bias towards other guilds within their circle.
And who dictates who is influential? Because you sure as hell don’t.
And what about all the non-influential people? Don’t they get a say? or are your fellow RPers not as important because they don’t follow one Circle and choose a broader horizon?
Maybe if you all stopped watching Game of Thrones and watched MR Rogers you wouldn’t all be muppets!
When it came with assigning a ‘Grove Warden’ of sorts, I know there was a vote on it by those who RP in the Grove/general area and we were all pretty happy with the choice.
Dunno how the rest of it played out
Except the vote was conducted solely between those players lucky enough to be a part of the Duskwood discord group, which only includes a niche selection of Role players who frequent the Twilight Grove.
Furthermore, the decision was made entirely out of character with no mention of the meeting at all In Character, so the Druids actually roleplaying in the Grove the very evening of the meeting were none the wiser. The two chosen representatives for the Grove did not even set one foot in the Grove that whole day and night.
