The Gnomes in Boralus, where do they come from?

I wonder if the Gnomes around Boralus could have been born there and lived their lives around there not being a part of the Alliance, or if it’s more likely they were from Gnomeregan and traveled there? Both? What do you think?

I recently made this hunter a Gnome and am not satisfied with the story I gave her so came up with something entirely else, a Boralus Gnome pirate/smuggler :+1:  I saw there was a Gnome with the Iron, something pirates so should be possible :woman_shrugging:

I know the Gnome Barber is part of the Mafia, but other than that, i’m not quite sure.

I think they would be travellers who may havw settled there later, just like the Wildhammer boss whose name I forgot…

They’re settlers, they moved there and set up home during and in the aftermath of the Second War.

Ah yes, that makes sense.

Of course you can do that. Gnomes didn’t just poof into existence before the whole thing at Gnomeregan went down. They were around before that with the dwarves.

Can’t really answer your question. Your gnome could be from a family of normadic gnomes that just run around from place to place. It would make sense if your gnome was born in Gnomeregan, but decided that isn’t the life for her and joined some pirates / went to Kul Tiras. Any race to be a pirate is possible. Look at booty bay. There is even a tauren pirate (however that came to happen).

So sure, go for from Gnomeregan and traveling there or let your gnome be a part of a gnome family that settled in Kul Tiras some long time ago. Because again it’s not like Pandaria where “the mist covered the island for thousand of years”. Kul Tiras exists since forever. So I wouldn’t be surprised if other races decided to live there.

One has to go with the mindset that Kul Tiras and Zandalar have always existed and that nothing has prevented anyone from going there or leaving. The same really goes for all of the continents that have been introduced throughout the expansions - except for example Pandaria, because it was shrouded pre-MoP.

I don’t think anything stops your character from having had any experience with Kul Tiras/Zandalar before BfA came out - retroactively, of course.

A lot of this question is answered in 8.2 with Mechagon. Would only say spoilers if requested.

However a lot of the Gnomes currently in Boralus and such are most likely just settlers moving there post Second War. Maybe even with the fall of Gnomeregan some resettled there.

There is the gnomish workshop you have to check on in that one quest which is closed off and have all the guardian machines outside of it

I would argue something like that has probably taken a time to build and as such, gnomes may not have been natives or arrived with the kul tiran people but they could be 2-3 generation settlers maybe?

Possible spoiler:

The one with the massive door the gnome can’t open? I’d say that was the entrance to Mechagon, although i’m not sure. I’ve tried to steer clear of spoilers myself.

that would be the one.
I don’t know if it is an entrance but even if it isn’t, that thing has been there for a while so we can at least assume there is a small gnomish population on the island way before we arrived.

Yeah. But the Barber is new.

Migration & Gnome culture.
If i recall correctly gnomes tend to stick to themselves.

Talia mentions in the intro quests that she loves going to the taverns and listen to the stories of far off travellers. That alone indicates that you can easily say you’ve travelled and lived there.

(Edited because of spoilers! Thanks Kump for saying so, and I get I also got my answer!)

Those are Spoilers

Ooh so many answers, and I’m glad the spoiler response was edited before I saw it, I’m trying to stay clear from spoilers :see_no_evil: it’s good information many Gnomes seem to have been settlers from after the second war though, that was, like, 20 years ago? So that would mean a lot of time to live a life around there, I think I’ll build something around that  thanks for all the replies

To be fair; Gnomes and Humans have been in contact since 2600 years before the First War, this was 200 years after the creation of the Empire of Arathor and when all the City-states still answered to the rule of Strom(since they lived in peace for several centuries before the City-states broke off and became their own independent Kingdoms).

The Gnome Arcanist Indus was a member of the Council of Tirisfal and we can assume she lived in Dalaran. I would dare say that Gnomes could’ve easily spread throughout the many city-states of the Empire of Arathor, even taking up residence in Kul Tiras during all that time. Especially since Gnomes are a curious race, they’re mostly accepted by everyone(with only that Outlands Kaldorei Outpost being a d*ck to them).

Man TL:DR: I wouldn’t find it strange to have your Gnome and her ancestors from the past so many centuries hail from Kul Tiras or any other Human Kingdom, really. Just give it a good thought about the how and why.

You make a good point

They’ve mentioned at the last Blizzcon that the quest only starts here, Mechagon is (Presumably) its own island.

Fortunately, Tinkmaster Overspark has some early quest dialogue which pinpoints how most Gnomes arrived in Kul Tiras.

To avoid spoilers here, check out ‘The Legend of Mechagon’ Alliance quest.
