The Grand Hunt needs work!

Spent ages today flying around trying to find the hunt, having to zoom out my map to see the icon and realiesing that I couldnt find it even when Im right on top of it.
Had to give up in the end…

Unlike my first hunt of the week…
I AFKed to get snacks and when I came back I had apparently just done the hunt!

I feel like either I cant find the fudgin’ thing or I fly over it in passing and autocomplete it.

Yeh, I think alot of these Events are a little too AFK friendly.

I’ve joined raids for the hunt where half the group is AFK. But then I have also noticed a hunt going on in the area I’m in and taken 5 mins break and reaped the Rep.

Also, I am sure with the Community Feast there is a finite number of tasks. So when AFK’ers get one of the non-time limited tasks it holds up other people getting tasks. That is in no way confirmed, but I have a suspicion it might be the case (I got 3 task in a 15 minute feast today).

I believe participation should be compulsory for the rewards.

For the first time I didn’t get a hunt reward today. I think it’s probably because I didn’t kill the final boss, mainly because I couldn’t see it and it wasn’t marked on the map …

Easy fix
Give the activities (kills/collection/assists) of the hunt a decent chance to generate extra hunter trophies. This will incentivize people to be more active during the hunt.

Why did the big elite beast that I took down does not drop a few trophies?

It will also make the grind quicker

Ask for more carrots for those who contribute instead of sticks for the afk.
Those who have crammed their renown grind on the first days and are done are already ahead of the rest of us without asking blizzard to make it harder for us because some might afk

I should point out here that I didnt AFK on purpose. I left my character AFK somewhere random and a hunt just happened somewhere nearby!
I was actually quite annoyed because I wanted to participate. I dont know why they didnt make it so you have to talk to the NPC first before you are deemed to be joining the Grand Hunt…
not just randomly flying overhead or popped to the toilet irl!! LOL

Please don’t rework it, it’s actually very nice being able to hop around 3 hunts in a row every week, afk on some rock, and collect your 50 centaur rep tokens

Mate if I stand somewhere and a hunt sudden starts on top of me, it’s time to go make a coffee.

For the last 10 days I was unable to see the Grand Hunt even when the enlarged map showed that I was right on top of it. I tried googling and there are many reports on the US forums of the same thing happening to people.
I couldn’t fix it so I went and did something else and spoke to Trainer Frodrum: Grand Hunt Trainer in Maruukai 61, 42 and updated the 2 options he gives to you on speaking to him. The Hunt then spontaneously appeared on my map soon as I looked at it to find a new quest.
I don’t know if this might help but worth a try.

Off the top of my head improvements.

Just make it competitive.

Each Grand Hunt has 6 stages and 5 races.

  1. First place gets 6 Vigor

  2. Second place gets 5 Vigor

  3. Third place gets 4 Vigor

Everyone else participating in the hunt/stage gets 3 Vigor.

Who comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd is all predicated on how effective they are as a hunter when doing the quest in each stage, more specifically, how much did they contribute to completing the quest in that stage.

Once the quest is complete, everyone will be teleported to the nearest mountain and the countdown for the race will start.

You have to race across the zone to the next stage of the hunt, the first player to reach the quest area wins the race and is given a buff, increasing reputation gains when hunting by X amount for 15 minutes.

Players with 6 Vigor give themselves the best chance to win the race, win 5 consecutive races, and get the achievement Grand Hunter, players with this achievement start off with reputation gains being increased by X amount when hunting, it then stacks if they win a race.

Long term, put some of the best toys, mounts, and transmogs in reputation caches.

Big fat no from me.
Hate this idea. No offense.

Look at how FATEs(functions quite similar to hunt and world events) are handled in FFXIV. This is a tech WoW still lacks, checking that you try and do some contribution, scaling the reward with effort. It is easy to get max if you try, but if you show up at the tail end or AFK nah.

This has happened to me twice: I travel to the zone in which the Grand Hunt is supposed to happen and wait for it to begin, but when the counter on the big map and Wowhead reaches zero a new Grand Hunt icon suddenly appears in a different zone while the counter resets - the Grand Hunt simply fails to take place and there’s no “afk loot”

I got one while not knowing a hunt was going on. Was afk pretty muvh the entire duration.

Ye these events are little iffy.

Today i flew from valdraken to azure span to do the world boss…used flymaster and tabed out…when i tabed back in ive got reward from grant hunt…didnt do anything at all.

This makes no sense to me, sorry. There are also players who can’t dragonride, so why make this a part of that too?

The hunt might need a little adjustment, but after some thinking it is quite nice that you don’t end up losing credit just because you didn’t get to the objective in time. I have had a few afk hunts(not planned) aswell as active participation and I think they are working out quite well as they are. I did think the afk thing would end in a hotfix tho.

It’s not set in stone, if you have some creative concepts that will improve my original idea, please feel free to do so.

The goal is engaging content.

My only peeve with the Grand hunt is how often one task is to save the baby animals only for the next task to be about butchering the adults of the same species.
