The Haranir

This has been on my mind since I intend to play the new race in Midnight as a Druid. I’ve never really played a Druid before, and for some reason, I’m drawn to Balance spec.

My question for those who play Druids, or for anyone who wants to play this new race in Midnight , is:

1. What do you honestly believe about its viability?
Do you think this race will be a strong choice for many classes? When we look at the racial abilities and visuals (from what we can tell in videos, they seem to use Night Elf animations), does it seem like a good fit for Druids and other classes?

2. How do you feel about the unlock process?
Are you happy, or a bit disappointed, that we’ll likely have to go through a story campaign and complete side quests to unlock the race gradually? This process seems t on par with how we unlocked the Earthen in The War Within.

Or, would you prefer it to be unlocked immediately when Midnight launches, so you can start playing it right from the pre-patch? This would be more like how the Dracthyr Evoker were added—though I know that’s a hero class, so it’s a little different.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts!"

I rather it was not a new race at all and just options for a race we already have , these allied races are getting really boring now and lacking ideas.

my theory its the lack of a proper starting experience that helps to kind of introduce you to the race and the culture its from

weird that they managed to find a system that lets them avoid making the coolest thing about a new race: their starting zone and lore

unlock is probably either going to be a reputation renown reward with their faction or it’ll just be on release one of the two.

Class viability generally isn’t something you should worry about, with optimal play any spec can clear any content up to the reward caps.

A good solution would be to implement a sub-race feature within the existing character customization menu.

Instead of adding a completely new race box on the selection screen, you would simply choose your core race (e.g., Night Elf or Tauren) and then select your specific visual variant from the customization options.

doesn’t really solve the core issues of allied race if you ask me personally.

You saying that actually made me nostalgic for the unique starting experiences of classes like Death Knights and Demon Hunters. I remember the fantastic storytelling of discovering who you were and how you came to be, a feeling that was also captured by the Dracthyr Evoker’s intro. Even Pandarians in Mists of Pandaria had a great narrative journey on the Wandering Isle before choosing a faction.

Just to be clear, this isn’t meant to be the definitive solution to any problem. It’s simply an idea—one of many possible approaches to help ‘trim the fat,’ so to speak. The goal would just be to simplify and declutter the system without losing the depth of options we all enjoy.

I will for sure make one Haranir alt, as I am slowly working on having at least one toon per race + want to have all the classes represented on both factions.

Want to finish this goal in Legion remix by leveling few alts and then Haranir in Midnight.

Most likely it will be a druid.

Viablity? For me none, just +1 char to finish my above mentioned goal.

Unlock is fine for me, I will have other things to do in the beginning than leveling some Haranir alt, so don’t mind any unlock steps by completing certain tasks over time.

It’s a terrible idea, based on brief interactions we’ve had from the campaign, they are incredibly uninteresting.

You should wait till we know how their druid forms looks like before you decide to play one.
Imo if you want to play balance go for Zandalari, their boomkin form is the best!

That’s an excellent point—I completely forgot that we haven’t seen the Boomkin or Guardian Druid forms for this new race yet.

You’re right that Zandalari Trolls set a high bar. Their Loa-based racial abilities are strong and their Moonkin form is fantastic. I love that it looks like a sleek, scrawny vulture instead of the classic giant chicken.

I don’t mind the unlocking, but I guess it sucks a little bit if you have decided to main Harranir. Because then you have to level something you don’t intend to play before you can level the race you do want to play. Or buy a race change I guess…

I think druid fits Harranir alot, always imagined they were druids when seeing them in the quests.

One of the biggest hesitations—or perhaps disappointments—about playing that race is the unlock process. You’re required to complete the entire Midnight story campaign just to gain access to it, and then you must play through it all over again on the new character you actually want to level. It feels unnecessarily repetitive right from the start.

That said, I don’t actually mind leveling characters. I find it very therapeutic. My issue is that I’d prefer to experience the Midnight story for the first time on the character I plan to main throughout the expansion—immersed in the narrative as that specific hero—not rushed on a throwaway character just to unlock the race.

I also agree the race feels very Druid-oriented. Even the two NPCs we interact with in the appear to be Druids, which strongly hints at its natural and shapeshifting themes. I just wish Blizzard had shown the Boomkin and Guardian forms instead of only revealing the Feral and flight forms. Those are major selling points for many players, and keeping them hidden feels like a missed opportunity.

It would for sure save some slots in the race selection. Under say Draenei you’d have the lightforged or now as they recently added the skin, manari.
Same for tauren, orc, gnomes and everything else that has a pretty much the same looking counterpart with some differences. Could then have space for more unique races with different models.

But on the topic of Haranir, definitely going to make one. I am tempted to race change my worgen to it but I need more info on how the haranir is going to be with all the druid forms and such.

Thought we already got a pic of that; something like an armadillo.
