To those people who’ve gone through the Pandaren starting zone recently, is it just me or is the difficulty for these two missions, [The Healing of Shen-zin Su] and [An Ancient Evil], extremely hard? The first one is obvious but the second one is when you have to kill that boss with Aysa. I feel like some patch (perhaps scaling?) made this zone insanely hard. I cannot do [The Healing of Shen-zin Su] without another player cooperating with me and I’ve seen many other Pandas struggling here as well because of fast add spawn time, healer’s absolute fluffiness to damage and slowness to heal themselves. As for [An Ancient Evil] it’s horrible with a melee DPS with no self-heals (rogue especially) because Aysa just keeps rolling during Smash casts and the adds seem to have too much health and DPS. I’m not a noob, I’ve done my share of raiding and I paid massive attention to the necessary tactics in these two quests. You don’t see this sort of difficulty in any other starting zone. I’m not the only one experiencing this in The Wandering Isle, right?
I read your previous topic and decided that I’d make a panda soon. Two problems: way too much stuff to do and already have two rogues.
Hopefully some people with experience on this will give you feedback before I get to try this myself.
Yeah, I decided the previous topic was just way too long to read and that I had no chance of anyone replying to it. I decided to shorten it but because I posted it a while ago I just decided to make a new one. I hope someone who has experienced it replies, I feel like it might just all be me and that I am a noob again but I used to raid Antorus on HC and this is a starting zone, so it’s just bizarre. These two quests are the last ones in The Wandering Isle besides choosing a faction so it will take some time to get to them. You don’t necessarily have to choose rogue, I just found for the boss quest melee roles that do not have self-heals before level 15 have the most difficulty.
i have only gone through part of the storyline but the scaling is broken and blizzard doesnt care. they only want artifically extend the gameplay.
i had a boss fight right before i got to the fire spirit and it wasnt hard because i had regenerating health but god damn he was a bulletspunge and took several minutes to defeat.
am on dafeng, the spirit of air and there is no place to rest in between winds. i stay in the exact same place as the npc and i die within 5-6seconds
i just did an ancient evil and the boss was easy. just stay behind him and he wont damage you at all. the adds were a bigger threat than the ‘boss’
the healing quest is wouldnt say difficult but it sure is annoying. healers are so squishy
Huh, I was sub rogue and I did stay behind the boss during Ancient Evil but Aysa just kept rolling into my way in the middle of a Smash cast. The boss before the fire spirit definitely takes long to kill. As for the winds thing, I never noticed that. Usually you can just stay behind Aysa and when it goes out take your own charge and stop in the middle then wait again and go again to Dafeng. I am surprised you didn’t find the healing quest not difficult though, but I would agree it is annoying. I just either get overwhelmed by the adds (even with healing spheres from that nearby Huojin Panda) or the healers get killed by them easy while I am trying to survive.
So I just did both these quests as a Monk, Windwalker spec, level 17.
Head, Neck, Shoulders, Back, Chest, Legs, both Trinkets and DW 1H sword heirlooms which obviously made it quite easy.
[An Ancient Evil] was pretty much a walk in the park, due to me being able to down the adds approximately 2-4 seconds after they arrived at my location (mostly behind the boss). I only got hit 2 times, both of which were the attack other than the frontal cone attack, due to me not paying attention. No self-heals needed.
After that I got thrown into [The Healing of Shen-Zin-Su], and that’s exactly what it felt like: thrown into. At first I was a bit lost, so I ran towards the small camp, tried to kill adds fast and talk to the Horde Druids which was quite hard due to the adds spawning way too fast. I managed to kill 5-6 that were attacking me simultaneously, without a need to heal. They did however get me to about 25%. After that, I decided to run back towards the wounds still with 0 healers active. Waited it out a bit and left the adds to the helpful pandas, since I had 0 healers active anyway. After that I just went right to the Alliance Priests, killed 1 or 2 adds max and “recruited them”. I did the same for three of the closest Horde Druids.
Now here’s the part where I got lucky: a Frost Mage was also there, (s)he stayed near the healers to protect them while I collected new ones.
With quite a few heirlooms, this wasn’t too hard to do, but what I did notice is that every time I “recruited” 1 healer and came back, there were 3-4 adds up and before we got them down 3 or 4 more arrived. When those were down, I could go out to get one more healer, which went on until we had 6/12 healers active and the healing was completed.
My findings: [An Ancient Evil] seemed perfectly doable without any self-healing, as long as your DPS is good enough to down the adds. The boss stayed on Aysu except for when he was casting his special abilities. She only did a dumb roll once but my positioning at the time wasn’t optimal. [The Healing of Shen-Zin-Su]… it’s bad… really bad. I’m certainly not one to complain about quests going haywire due to me having to figure out what to do, which is what happened but thanks to my heirlooms I managed to recover from that. After recovering, I knew what to do and thanks to the Frost Mage present, it went quite fast. I can however imagine doing this alone and without heirlooms would result into either of two things;
- You get overwhelmed really really quickly by trying to get the wrong healers or too many of them, or you die protecting them 100% of the time and pulling too many adds or;
- You carefully get a healer or two to start healing Shen-Zin-Su and protect them but try to get out of aggro range when things start to get too heated for you: resulting in the healer NPC’s death, meaning you have to start all over again. I believe the healing bar that needs to be filled does not deplete over time so this would just mean it’ll be a carefully repeated cycle of “recruiting” a small amount of healers and protecting them then getting out of harm’s way.
In my opinion they should either make the mobs a lot more squishy or make the spawnrate a lot, and I mean a lot lower.
I can imagine doing this with just white gear and alone would make quite a few people reconsider if it’s worth their time and effort.
I completely agree with you there. The mob spawn is way too quick for the time it takes to kill them. For info, I was using no looms at the time so all of my gear was white, I used no buffs and no pots and had no self-heals as I’ve said. Unlike you I wasn’t able to kill the adds so quick on The Ancient Evil so maybe that’s where the difference came in, but Smash with Aysa was the breaker for me. It’d get me really low and the adds would finish me off. But, you know, I wouldn’t mind it so much if three things were different: this wasn’t a starting zone (AKA newb content); the Healing quest said that it suggests 2 players; the fact that this quest is mandatory for Pandarens. It’s not like other areas where you can just go out of the area. You absolutely must do it if you want to leave the Wandering Isle and have any chance at doing other content.
Yea seeing as it’s manditory this really needs fixing. They can also make it like WQs, adding the group finder option.
What might’ve also saved me on [An Ancient Evil] is having the ‘Roll’ ability.
These quests are frustrating to say the least. Wrong place, wrong time for them.
Well, I submitted two suggestions to Blizz about both quests. I hear they don’t usually listen to suggestions, but they are there nonetheless.
