The keystone reward system at the end of the m+ dungeon is a huge problem

There’s quite literally no good reason for why the keystone you get after completing a mythic dungeon should be random, it’s just a complete waste of your time designed to keep you playing more and more but this is just extremely detrimental to literally everyone since getting a dungeon that you don’t like can be very frustrating and might make you wanna stop playing like it does for me after getting rewarded Neltharus every time I finish any other dungeon except it.

So why am I not given the choice to decide what key I want to choose after finishing a mythic dungeon? What are possible motives for it?

  1. Is Blizzard too afraid that this way people will deliberately choose to not do a dungeon that they like and some dungeon/s might be left out entirely? The answer to such a thing is that people going for rating will have to do all dungeons anyway if they want the fastest way to get rating AND if a dungeon is really gonna be left out then that will be a good indication that the dungeon needs to have some changes made to it because there’s probably a good reason why players don’t like to do it, whether that’s mechanics, tunning or rewards.
  1. Is Blizzard too afraid that if everyone can choose what dungeon they get as a reward after completing a mythic dungeon then people will be less incentivized to join other groups because they will have the mentality of “why join another group if I can make my own and choose who I want to invite?”? And that’s a fairly good argument, but I don’t think that the best solution for it is to have the key be random, and I don’t think that it’s gonna be a problem anyway because if people see that nobody wants to join their party then they’re more likely to try and join another group themselves, and this still applies today so it will not be anything new. So in scenario A (which would be the one where you choose what key reward you get) they have 2 choices: 1) Make your own group for the dungeon YOU WANT and 2) join another group.
Whereas in scenario B (where they key reward is random) the 2 choices that you have are : 1) Make your own group for the dungeon you randomly got and you probably hate or are tired of at the moment, and 2) join another group.
I don’t think scenario B is better from any POV to be honest. Not giving players the choice to do what content they want is never a good alternative to giving them the ability to choose what content they want.

Also I’m not talking about the level of the key because that system is good already, I’m only speaking about what dungeon you get as a reward after completing a mythic dungeon, but the level system of the key can stay the same as it is now.

Forget random dungeons.

Homework keys are annoying and simply not fun. But at the same time, I do want randomness in keys.

To prevent people posting only the easy dungeons.

So I would keep the random key as it is. However, what I would change is the following :

  • Put a price on key rerolls and key upgrades. It should cost you some crests + flightstones to do so.

  • Additionally, completing someone elses key also upgrades your key.

This would reduce the burden on homework keys. And would give a reason to use the dungeon currency after you are already maxed out in gear. Because gear upgrade currency is useless after the 1st month of a patch… and people just hoard it with out a way to spend it.

I managed to avoid brackenhide hollow in season 2 by joining other groups, so the unchangeable keys just meant I didn’t use my own key.

It’s extremely hard to get invited into a group as a dps unless you’re either overgeared for said content or you have very high rating. So getting invited into another group isn’t an easy fix to this honestly.

Agreed, and yes, It is designed to make sure you do a lot of unncessary runs on already completed levels. People think Blizzard somehow gave up on their “play time” KPIs or somehow people think such KPIs do not exist at all, which is not only hilarious but at the same a bit sad 'cuz its delusional too.

Anywho, this and key being downgraded at the end of a run are the main reasons why people don’t push their own key. Look at the amount of people that do m+, yet, look at the number of groups in the premade group tab, that makes no sense. It tells that a huge majority are not pushing their own key.

And as you’ve pointed out in your other comment, getting into other groups as DPS is very problematic, especially as you start going up in the ladder.

Blizzard is basically shooting itself in the foot by implementing such… weird, lets call it that for the lack of a less insulting word, tactics.

Why would anyone choose to avoid one of the easiest dungeons? Do you find it that boring?

I find it to be one of the worst dungeons, you rarely encounter terrible players in other dungeons, but in this dungeon, 90% of the players suck, idk what it is, but it seems to bring out the worst in people.

If it makes you feel any better I get refused multiple +4 keys the other day as a tank with 2k rating and 511 item level.

I can understand why.

Overgeared ppl have a tendency to overpull for the groups abilities and gear.

So the tank does this monster pull, all kinds of aoe or casts go off ganking the team (but not the immortal tank) and then the tank is like “lol noobs can’t understand why you didn’t kick those 86 bolts while stopping the 14 slams”.

Of course you may not be “that” guy but who knows?

I’m sure everyone can share some anecdote about how they got rejected while qualified / overqualified. So what? You just see it from your pov “I’m overqualified I should get an instant invite”.
The group leader thought differently, possibly for a valid reason. And their vote matters.

Higest key is a +7 though. Generally just do them for fun and to chill tbh.

i actually think the leader of the +4 was waiting for a 3k tank with 520 ilvl…
