The Life of a Cancel Scanner

I thought I would farm & learn a few of the new Naxxramas crafting recipes, and also some old world transmog patterns.

BIG mistake! I was wondering why I sold nothing after a few weeks, and it seems there are people cancel scanning their auctions every 1 MINUTE at every hour of the day.

I tried logging in at various times of the day when I had annual leave; 8:30AM, 11:05AM, 12:05PM, 2:47PM, 3:05PM and so on… Every time, I was undercut within 60 seconds by the same person… Often by the time I did my next scan, ~20 seconds after posting.

I don’t even care all that much about the gold but my goodness, what kind of life do these people live that compels them to cancel scan auctions in every waking hour?

First time on AH? If you dont cancel scan you wont sell much, its LIFO after all. And considering its new market, ofc people will tear their asses apart just to always stay first. Hype creates terrible things.

I’m just going to start posting everything at crafted cost - at least I can help people get the new transmogs at a decent price

Addons should have ZERO interaction with the function of the AH. They need to block all the API’s and be done with it.

Leggo market in SL was also like that on big realms, you either sit the whole day cancel scanning or you dont sell anything. It is what it is.

I mean if you are here not for profits than why bother destroying them for others? Just change realm, CRT is finally fixed.

I mean, I was hoping for a few sales but this greedy person wants to hog them all. What else am I going to do with all the new recipes / patterns that I’ve farmed / purchased? May as well help collectors get a fair price for them.

When buying stuff on the AH i usually like to choose those who are a few gold higher in price thinking that im not funding the bots but instead an honest player.

Like I said, change realms, not a big deal anymore. I myself am currently posting all my crafts on almost all realms and therefore I have a lot of sales even without cancel scanning every second. There arent a lot of players who constantly cancel scan anyways.

When buying stuff on the AH i usually like to choose those who are a few gold higher in price thinking that im not funding the bots but instead an honest player.

When I tried to do that and buy some mats a tiny bit higher in price, it selected ALL the items on BOTH the cheapest row AND the row I had selected. I can’t afford thousands of mats.

The Last In First Out system doesn’t seem to allow player selection.

I guess this only works for items which don’t stack, transmog pieces, armor etc.

I do the same, I buy from the person who is slightly more expensive / a few names down the list of sellers.

I rarely buy mats so i didn’t think about this. But yes, this system isn’t the best.

It’s bots. Some might argue you don’t need external programs for this sort of botting though I’m not sure that’s entirely accurate.

Either way, are you really surprised? Every single trading element of this whole game is botted to oblivion, why would the AH be any different.

I experience the same selling flasks and neltharite, too, although that probably isn’t bots but is simply all servers being merged. Either it sells in 20 seconds flat or it never will.

This is because the price is always falling to exactly the bill of materials and the bill of materials are falling to whatever the bots sell them for, and us regular people can’t earn any gold because the margins are so razor thin that only fleets of thousands of bots can earn anything large enough to be useful.

I’m convinced they are using some kind of bots, some of these cancel scanners appear to be at it from 9am through to midnight. What kind of human would have an existence like that without going crazy?
