how do you get back to the area to farm residual memories?..i thought it would be a simple case of going to either silithus or the portrait room in dalaran but i cant find nothing to let me get back to farming for the last few items i need. Any help please.
You just go back to dalaran. What is happening when you go there?
Is this on an alt? You need to unlock access to the events by running through the short questline on each char not just your main.
I didn’t have to do any of that on alts. The event is just available.

Dwarves I have, but can’t be a paladin on an Orc sadly.
I do have a dk orc
… just a thought, did you go to the right Dalaran - ie Portal rooms in either Stormwind/Orgrimmar - look for the Aszuna portal , go there, then find the flight path outside and fly to Dalaran 
For those that don’t have the hearthstone to Dalaran a portal is provided direct to Dalaran in SW and Org.

Maybe it was just bugged for me the first time I tried it on an alt. I had five portals in the portal room instead of the three until I ran through the quests.
