Hello,
I’ve been watching lately the auction house to sell things, and it’s not the first time i’ve seen things like 1 item is selling for 50k and it gets cutted right away for 10k and there is actually a specific case where you basically don’t get any profit out of it.
Lets talk about on Vial of the Sands mount.
Buying all the mats in auction house or even craft the possible ones, you wont get any profit after you sell the mount.
Lets just say you buy everything you need. . .
You pay around 40k - 45k Gold after buying the mats. and if you’re selling the mount for 39.999 Gold where is the profit in it?!?! Do you like to lose money in your transactions? This is the same things as opening a Store and offer everything to the costumers, and in top of all that paying the shipment to get the items in the store.
Lets be reasonable here. . .
You need at least 29k raw gold just to buy the regents from the npc in uldum, if you buy the rest that is needed from the action house, it’s a bit more and it depends on the server. In my Server costs around 40k - 45K Gold if you buy everything. Selling it for 40K gold, you need to pay (i guess and correct me if i’m wrong) 5% of the value because of the AH fee. You will receive around 36K gold.
Here it is the pictures i took from the AH.

Why not offer the mount?!
Sometimes i feel like people don’t know how to cut the prices in the AH, and this post should not be seen as bragging but to bring awareness that you’re losing gold if you do this.
Notice that somebody undercut from 45673.45 to 39999.99 and a dozen or so other people followed.
It’s the fear of being left with an expensive item that makes people want to cut their (potential) losses ASAP. Much more sensible to wait for the market to clear, and even peak a bit with Shadowlands, but some people panicked, or didn’t want to wait that long (though if they didn’t want to wait, why get into that market in Draenor?)
Draenor is the only server i play, i dont have any characters on other servers.
I understand what you mean, and i also know the prices on AH at this current state of the game is a mess, that mount is not the only case there, there is also the mount from jewelcrafting, if i’m not mistaken is around 20k - 25k.
The best thing to do right now is waiting for shadowlands and buy everything that is low price and sell it after. But the point of this post is to make the players who are doing this seen they are losing money.
The market for anything in WoW is so volatile these days you can buy something and lose 20% investment in a matter of hours.
And usually markets take months to bounce back, so if you see a market crashing its better to just get out with minimal damage than become a bagholder.
I undercut by a lot because I know perfectly well that things won’t sell at high prices on my realm group. My stuff still doesn’t sell either so hopefully one day there’ll be more buyers. (I don’t craft expensive stuff so don’t sell below what items have cost me).
Why would you do that tho? Of course you wont be in any profit with Vials if you buy all materials from AH…
With Uldum Accord rep you get discount on vendor mats, just farm the rest of materials and have transmute master on your alchemist so when you make true gold you have chance to proc extra bars.
i’m not making money from vials, not at all, i was surprised when i saw the price of that mount. I remember seen it around 150K on my server, and now is 40K or lower!
Expensive mounts got cheaper now, this is the best time to buy them and sell them when shadowlands goes live.
But if the intentions are to make profit of something, mounts are not the way since they are cheap!
The prices on the AH are only as high as the sellers allows it to be.
If you have responsible players who understand that undercutting on a slow moving item such as tmog, mounts or old crafting resources won’t help selling your stuff faster then you’ll keep an healthy AH you can still profit from.
If the mob suddenly feel threatened by an undercut and instead of relisting will just further undercut then you just have reduced profits or massive losses for no reason.
For instance the trillium and arcanite bars used to be good investments, but successive undercuts in 8.3 lowered the price by more than 50% with no visible increase in demand, which basically killed a nice farm for casuals (arcane crystals) and killed any profits generated by the trillium shuffle.
Casuals won’t bother whether your eternal fire costs 20 or 200g, they’ll buy it either way as long as it remains reasonable. Same for the vial of sands, a player who can afford a 36k gold could usually afford a 50k gold one, especially for unique stuff like the vial.
They’ll most of the time ignore the usual value of the mount as you need to closely monitor the ah to know it, so for any random player the real value of an item is the AH value when they bother to look for it, no matter how high it is compared to the usual price.
