The real enemy in WoW

Hi, beautiful people, I hope your 2025 is gonna be your best year.

I’m Alex, I used to be a curved mythic raider, and now I just play for fun, so I pretty much have seen it all. What bothers me is how much I dislike the Ovinax fight. I appreciate the design idea and AOE-ing the adds is always fun. But man with half the encounters my enemy is no longer the bosses it’s my fellow players who now have to learn some convoluted egg popping pattern. Okay fine, we somehow managed to overcome that mess. And then my teammate pops the ring on Mrs. Queen instead of me and it’s an instant wipe on heroic. In the end there was a long list of identical unfun things happening but we killed that beauty.

And then I got the tier token. And it turns out with that token I can purchase normal gear as well as heroic which are being sold by two different NPCs. I bet your head boils just from reading that.

I mistakenly purchased normal. And then I caught a freaking branch while flying. You might think that was a bad day but I think - plot twist - that’s why people like Classic. At least one of the reasons. You don’t have to be a freaking professor to play it.

Classic raiding, on the other hand, bores me. I know it’s not easy to design bosses but I wish there were more emphasis on fun and not the one shot wipe factory. There were patches when I have decided not to play in the beggining but rather let people learn the strats first. Because the real enemy of WoW is not the bosses it’s your teammates.

I feel like that is the problem. Don’t even start me on Mythic+ which by this point I believe should be auto-queable based on your raiting. I know what you might be thinking: “But Alex that’s how the pug world has always been, go find yourself a good guild”. And you would be right but I think you would also agree that organized raiding is rather time-consuming. Honestly, I might be hoping for too much. When you play Dota, you opt for getting good and bad players as well, I get it (though I believe it’s sorted by rating and it is auto-queable).

Anywho I enjoy Retail, and I hope Blizz is aware of that aspect because I believe WoW is in good hands now - we can see how it improves.

Hope that little essay on difficulty was entertaining. Happy 2025!

P.S. On the other hand the Princess fight is amazing so maybe I just need to shut the fish up, go to sleep and cease harassing Blizz encounter designers ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It’s not that it’s normal and heroic. It’s that it’s PvP and PvE. Bliz are changing this next tier so it doesn’t happen.

Next tier you get a catalyst charge so you won’t have that problem anymore.

If you hate that fight on heroic, you have seen nothing yet. One of the worst fights that they made on mythic. It’s ok, they win some and they lose some (as you said).

Problem is that pvp games can have a queue easily because they are 50-50. You have an equal chance of getting the good or the bad players and each game theoretically has a 50% chance to be a win.

Problem in pve is that you cannot make a queue with challenging content without making the requirements absurd. If they make the requirements too lax, then you will have long queues and groups falling apart too often (cause of players being way above their head). On the other hand having the requirements too strict and players complain about being forced to spam content they feel is “beneath them”.

I’ll preface this by saying I’ve only done the raid on LFR difficulty as I can’t be bothered to invest the time or patience on higher difficulty, it doesn’t interest me.

If you’re pugging raids, I think your assessment is slightly unfair. The fight you mention at higher difficulties, I’m not sure when this becomes needed, has weakauras that assign people to eggs. That means, if a WA is required, then it isn’t guaranteed that everyone in a pug will have that. Therefore, it comes down to it being a poorly designed fight and the enemy is Blizzard for doing that.

They have said they want to design fights that have less reliance on addons in the future, so hopefully that will fix the problem.

Hope you have a great 2025 too

There have been changes in WoW some good and some bad .

The retail right now isn’t to my appealing with not only the community but as well the format that they implanted with the diablo team while removing the WOW team .

There is no more joy to beat a boss since once you beat it ex. mythic you already kill it 60+ times in Lfr -normal-heroic .
They want to satisfy everyone at the point that the game isn’t anymore the Epic game we played but rather a lfr tool that just give you some epics that have 7 versions …lvling - Normal…explorer-veteran-champion-heroic-mythic … At this point people got sick getting within a period of time 1 item just go through 7 changes for that item that you already waste time upgrading that item …just to switch to the same item at higher lvl .

This is the diablo effect-copy paste seasonal . And people hate it . ( just read any post in d4 forums  )

Season 2 my fresh lvl 80 will be at higher ilvl gear than my 639 ilvl main within 3 hours by killing rabbits and going through rainbows… That’s the epicness of the current Mmo-wow.

Season 2 all guilds will stop progress for tier 1 bosses even if they are at 7/8 and having the last boss in 20%… That’s how it goes .
We are forced to do less content while deleting content within an expansion .Totally dumb .

In the lf tool classic yday there were more people only alliance side that the total player in Lf for m+… That’s says a lot …

The real enemy of wow is that wow stop being an MMORPG and become a seasonal arpg .
The real enemy of wow is deleting content within expansion leaving the raider with accomplished things .
We have currently 8% raiding guilds in comparison with Wotlk Icc .(Check wowprogress total guilds ). That’s says everything with the quality and quantity of what we currently have .

…Is ME!

I am the next BBEG after xally. And you will all bow before me.

Thank you guys, you all have good points to think about.

I think I agree on seasonal arpg nature - every new season kills the previous one and it doesn’t feel good. But it’s real hard for me to draw any conclusions since I don’t have any good metrics, there might be good reasons for why they design the game this way and not in a way it was in the Burning Crusade expansion.

I wonder if my critique is even valid, since heroic is meant to be played in a guild. I spent 600 wipes on Mythic Azshara and I had a blast despite the fight being Very complicated, probably one of the most complicated fights ever.

Though I think Azshara was complicated in a fun way while Ovinax is not hmm. Wish I could have Limit Maximum’s take on this.

it’s like I feel something is wrong but I can’t exactly explain it despite being very experienced ahahaha cheers.
