The real problem is the talent tree

what if it is a self driving car ?

The Legion Artifact talents were the best iteration of the talent tree.

You got everything, but could farm for 3+ to lesser talents.

No being stuck between the choice of single target, aoe or crowd control.

If you cant handle a talent tree why are you playing an mmo?

Nah.

If I play my feral druid I sabotage myself by not running AS but AS is clunky as hell and makes the game incredibly unfun. Feels more like character downgrade with how clunky it is.

People who are performance oriented will say “there’s no freedom of choice, you have to choose strict path”

People who like to experiment, learn the game, and don’t care about min-max mentality will play whatever they find enjoyable

You can literally play any talent combination to your liking - the differenece is in output.

If your main goal is to push high end m+ or mythic raid, yes - you will definitely follow what any guide says (and you will anyway just copy paste from guides, not even knowing what any modifier/talent does)

Other people will have more options as they’re not bound to one/two BiS/Meta builds.

What he said:

The talent tree is not the “real” problem, but it definitely is a problem. It’s unintuitive, needlessly complex, and simply promotes the idea of either using the Starter Build or copying a build from Icy Veins.

That’s an exaggeration. There are multiple viable builds for any content that rewards achievements, probably ten or more per spec. But only one or two are optimal for every situation.

One of the dumber ideas thats come out of our species once you really start asking questions on how it should behave in traffic, but we blame the manufacturer

now watch everyone scrap their ideas for making them

Because in too many cases the talent trees are an illusion of choice.

They might as well have been compressed down to two or three sub specs with pre-defined load outs instead, and even then there would always be one choice that’s superior to the others either all the time or for some specific content.

No matter what system they out in theres going to be a best choice.

No. Just no.

People seem to forget why we got talent trees again instead of whatever mess was before. To counter removal of borrowed power when new expansion starts. Start of BFA was a mess when we lost artifacts. So the decision was made to move from power on gear to power in talents. And I hope they won’t change this approach anymore.

Now, can talent trees be improved? Of course.

In my opinion spec tree should only have talents which affect gameplay, class talent - utilities and stat buffs.

They will bring back MOP talent system for sure.

The current talent trees are simply meaninglessly over complicated and unsustainable.

I have largely refrained from the popular old-people hobby of worrying about the intellect of young people today…but the more I read, the more I am inclined to take up this ancient occupation

The funny thing is, Pandaria talent tree had the same amount of legitimate options.

And by legitimate I mean talents which you could complete HC raid or M+13 with.

Improved doesnt mean condensed tho

This was a foreseeable problem but it’s what people wanted.

My problem is with the “tree” part. Having things connected that aren’t really related is really bad design.

I can’t for the life of me remember where all of the stuff that modifies something I want is. Icons aren’t descriptive and everything blurs together.

Scrap the tree, put abilities on a line, grouped by type, and limit how many of each type you can choose. Then from each ability you’d get a mini-branching path of options only related to that ability. Bam, better than the messy cobweb (not even a tree) we have today.

What.

They literally just made a lot of things that were baseline before into talents.

Talent tree is a horrible clutter. Pandaria’s talent tree was better.

They should look more at guild wars 2, it has the best talent tree design.
