The Reinstating of Garithos Into the World

We all know who Garithos is; That one-dimensional minor villain from The Frozen Throne campaign in Warcraft 3, who could be summed up as “Doesn’t like Non-Humans”.

Well, what I noticed in the last few years is a sort of surge of popularity for him, as it turns out that there is great meme energy to have with the character, once people decided to take what was there and crank it up to a comical degree. As present in this video:

It got me thinking that there really should have been some love or nod thrown in his direction. There was not even a mention of a soldier brought to Revendreth for trying to drive a wedge into his faction or something along those lines.

“But wait, you are basing this liking of the character on non-canon custom campaigns!”
Yes, true, but these custom campaigns happen to be a lot more fun and better written (For what they are) than the professionally written grand epic that Blizzard has been working on for the past few years.

I see it as a real shame that the character got completely snubbed from Warcraft, even though he’s basically Proto-Garrosh.
I guess what I am saying is: Bring some kind of mention of Garithos, honor the veteran of the second war, Grand Marshal of the Alliance and the heroic Emperor of Mankind.

Also, just a sidenote: If you decide to comment, do try and control yourselves. I say this because for some reason anytime Garithos is mentioned, I’ve seen people lose their minds like a demon hearing Christ’s name being uttered.

Isn’t he dead?

Don’t see how that stops him from being added as an NPC somewhere in the Shadowlands as part of Secrets of Azeroth, or just a plaque somewhere.
Anything to at least recognize his existence.

Seems an odd request, but that’s just me Best of luck with your endevour.

I don’t see the appeal of a human supremacist being commemorated esp in something like a the big community event unlocking secrets.

Good luck with that in today’s soft people’s mindset, even air offends them.

I noticed too how be became more popular and a meme character because of his supremacist view.

But its also odd, he never getting mentioned in the whole story again, like he never existed.
Neither on Alliance (as a prime example of extremism) or the horde side, especially bloodelves (since he is the prime reason why the blood elves abandoned the alliance) and Forsaken (without his help anf forces sylvanas woud never had captured lordaeron city from Balnazar)

Hia only proof of existence is his appearance entirety in Warcraft 3: The frozen throne.
Besides that media he never get any mentioning anywhere.

You mean that guy who complains about Alliance bias, or whatever the guy’s shtick was?
Truth be told it is a bit crazy to automatically assume someone is an alt of another person just because of a thread that was made.

Never underestimate the power of memes. Genuine jokes and laughter can move mountains.

If I remember correctly, the arguments that people made for his complete abandonment were along the lines of “He is a bad character”, “He is too evil to be mentioned”, “He’s too minor of a character to be given a nod” or other variations of such answers.
Not the most satisfying answers as even less influential characters ended up being made into some kind of NPC or had some kind of impact in quests, like that one Troll Shaman who people memed on in the BfA trailer.

Really though, the only reason Garithos got retconned out of existence is because he has too much testosterone for Blizzard… Even though they then went on and made Garrosh into an Orc Garithos for MoP and gave him a defiant sendoff in Shadowlands.

So again, a character who is alive in World of Warcraft. Not a deceased one that never made it into the game.

I know we all would like to pretend Shadowlands doesn’t exist, but let’s stop acting as if you can’t put dead characters into the Afterlife.

So you want the to retrocon Shadowlands expansion to put someone in an old expansion that is no longer relevant?

Again seems rather pointless.

If ARTHAS could not get a proper treatment, why are you expecting Garithos of all people to have a chance

I guess I’m just too much of an optimist.

Yeah let’s bring back some literally who character to own the libs.

A memory, echo or flashback would be enough (we’re not touching SL again) he ain’t that important but still unintentionally change history. (See reason above)

Yes, he was “evil” byt then remembered Garrosh and hiw he treated the Horde…or Sylvanas.

He is also a prime example fir extremism on alliance side, so they sint have a pure white vest.

Not strange. Just the blizzard writers being morons and not letting the alliance have any dirt.

Genn and Tyrande being more recent examples with both being muzzled.

I don’t think anyone is denying his existance, his terrible treatment of the Elves causing them to leave the Alliance is not exactly hidden.

The only place he could have potentially worked is in Shadowlands, either in the Maw or Revendreth. This expansion is behind us now (thankfully), so maybe let’s move on onto improving living characters instead?

And since we’re on the topic of missed opportunities and terrible expansions here’s a brief but not exhaustive list of things SL missed/failed at miserably:

  • Thrall and Drakka reunion was so poor. Also why no Durotan?
  • Father and son Morgraine reunion was just a huge tease that didn’t deliver.
  • Apparently the Baine and the Taurens had a role…
  • Imagine if Sylvanas actually got to meet her dead brother instead to make her betrayal less jarring.
  • Where was Grom Hellscream? Imagine if Thrall, instead of somehow reconnecting with the elements in the bloody afterlife by some sort of miracle, he gets to meet his old pal Grom who literally forgives him for killing his son by cheating during Mak’gora essentially helping restore faith in himself.

Anyhow… Rambling over.

Firstly: I think it’d be quite a telling sign that someone never played Warcraft 3 if they relegate Garithos to “Literally who”.

Secondly: Just so you know, you are the only one talking about the libs and owning them :stuck_out_tongue:

I can see where the two of you are coming from. I guess I was just thinking longingly about having one of Warcraft’s characters getting some form of representation for being admitively a minor character that still managed to serve a role in making things turn in a pivotal manner.

Shadowlands certainly delivered on a lot of things really poorly. Although we can all agree that it probably ruined what Warcraft’s afterlife may or may not have been, along with some other rather additions that kinda spoiled the broth.
