The relationship between Shamans and Elementals

I have always found the relationships between shamans and elementals facinating but what I am curious about is what kind of mediation does the shamans actually do between elementals like does it get Games of Thrones levels of political intrigue

I’d highly recommend you to play through Shaman’s legion content sometime! It shows them bringing victory to a side in a civil war in the firelands, restoring an elemental lord of air and (violently) convincing his underlings to get in line, visiting Deepholme to help out Therazane.

Again, violently.
It’s a big “you scratch my back, i scratch yours” deal.

Kinda unfair in the case of Therazane… I mean, have you seen the size of her back?

Geez.

The sheer level of political intrigue depends on the kind of shaman you’re dealing with; goblin shamans are shown to make “contracts” with the elements. In the in-game example we have, the elemental ends up turning on him, and you as the adventurer has to help him defeat it.

And as Tehya mentioned, as of Legion (and really Cataclysm, in Deepholm) we do see the Earthen Ring take a much more active role in managing the politics of the elemental realms, so if that’s up your alley, an adventure to help one elemental overpower another isn’t all that unseemly.

Beyond that, it’s often what you see in quests - you help out one elemental by doing it’s esoteric challenge, you help out another by besting it in a fight, and a third by journeying the world and returning with gifts from the surface.

Justified, since the goblin in question sent you to kill the elemental and take his ever burning heart (or something like that) in Deepholm. xD
