The Reputation System

My view on the WoW reputation system…

Please understand that some of the things i say here you may disagree with, im not looking to cause a toxic post Im simply giving my opinion on the rep system. If you disagree with anything I say please feel free to tell me what it is.

In my opinion the WoW reputation system is a complete waste of potentially and especially for the current content, theirs so many thing they could have done to make this system unique and different to anything else we have seen, in WoW currently we have 1 option as to what we can do daily to get gear, that being mythic+. However many people dislike mythic+ including me, I don’t want to farm the same dungeons over and over again everyday. Quite simply that’s just not fun and I feel like blizzard have realized this but don’t know what to do about it, this is were i believe they should completely revamp the reputation system. With the current rep system we have 5 stages of rep level that being, neutral, friendly, honored, revered and exalted. Now while I believe the current system would be fine for old world content and previous expansions, I feel like we should have a completely new rep system with current content. We have multiple factions within BFA that all have different items for sale, some selling mounts, some selling toys and some selling recipes. However all of them sell gear, now I want you to look at that gear and ask yourself if you need it, most probably the answer will be no because you will already have massively passed the item level on that certain piece of gear. Now think about it what do we end up farming rep for? Most of the time will be farming it for a mount or toy we want that the vendor is selling, not once have any of us farmed rep for a piece of gear unless we wanted that piece of gear for transmog. And so basically all cosmetic and items that do not help us in any way shape or form, what a waste of a system. There’s so much potential for gear drops and item level increases through the rep system, think blizzard, if people are willing to spend hours farming rep for a cosmetic item they will spend hours farming rep for gear. With a new revamped system that offers players gear for there faction level it would completely flip BFA into a better place. No more farming mythic+ constantly all day no more boredom from your player base. OK maybe that’s not entirely true but it will most probably stop the majority of it, all this with very minimal effort.

My perfect world of reputation.

In my perfect rep world we would completely scrap the neutral, friendly, honored, revered and exalted system and have a level system from 1 to 10, 10 being the max rep level and 1 being the lowest. On 1 you start with nothing and you are not able to buy anything from that faction level, now for the point system of this I would create a quest system with the faction (kind of like daily’s) were the faction gives you 3 quests to complete each day each quest giving you 750 rep. You would need 5000 Rep for level 2, for level 3 7500, for level 4 10,000, for level 5 15,000, 6 would be 20,000, 7 being 25,000, 8 being 32,500, 9 being 40,000 and 10 finally being a whopping 50,000. WQ’s for the specific faction would offer around 75 - 150 depending on the difficulty and emissary’s for the faction would give the normal rewards, (gear, and azerite power) but on top would give you 1250 rep. you would be able to buy a tabard for the faction at level 1, this tabard will make that faction your main faction as long as you have it equipped meaning you can only have 1 main faction which gives you rewards. With the others only offering recipes mounts and toys however the leveling system would be the same for these factions only slower with your main faction being much faster and giving you gear. The tabard will give you 15 rep for every enemy you kill within the factions zone with the tortollans being every enemy you kill within the sea. You would be able to buy the mounts for the factions at level 10 and you would be able access certain recipes within each level with the best recipes being available at level 6, the toys for the faction would be available at level 8 also. The gears item level would also depend on your factions level, which i shall make based on 8.1 with level 2 offering a piece of gear with a 325 item level, level 3 offering a 335 item level piece, level 4 offering 345, level 5 offering 350, level 6 offering 360, level 7 offering 370, level 8 offering 380, level 9 offering 390 and finally level 10 giving you a whopping 400 item level piece of gear. You would be able to buy one piece of gear with an item level based around your main factions level then if you successfully completed all your daily’s through Monday to Saturday you would get a special quest on Sunday offering 1 piece of your factions level gear when you completed the quest not only that but it would also reward you with 2000 rep and 4000 gold for successfully completing the factions daily quests. This would happen every week as long as you completed your factions daily’s through Monday to Saturday. Each alt character you had would be able to join a certain faction and make it its main faction however the gear drops would be the same only the quests would be different. Each factions gear drops will only be normal gear and there would be no azerite items available through faction gear, with the faction gear only dropping Legs, Boots, Bracers, Rings, Belts, Backs, Gloves and Weapons with trinkets also not being available through factions.

Thank you all so much for reading let me know what you think down below and if you have any questions.

I think what we need isn’t a whole revamp, but a return to a way rep grind used to be.

Every faction required a different approach while offering a different reward. Some gave you gear, others rewarded you with mounts and there were some factions just for the lunatics.

Yes I totally agree it would we be a whole lot better than what we have currently.

  1. All toys, pets, recipes and mounts on vendor, paragon is just extra resources, azerite, gear (WQ is the source), cageable pets and/or gold to give an idea
  2. Offer different ways to earn rep (some factions a combination of mutple)
  3. Fishign rewards = fishing = fishing faction = fishing turn ins and/or dailies
  4. Some factions having no gear or recipes doesn’t matter, I mean the Tillers were farmers and they didn’t gave out gear. Pricess Therazane’s earth elementals don’t use armor and only offered enchants.

What’s the command for underline?

My only dispute with what you say is about the gear not being anything other than cosmetic as for alts that’s changing in 8.1 as I understand it. So if your main is exalted your alts can buy the gear without farming the rep.

Also rep is needed for pathfinder and allied races too.

I do get where you are coming from though.

Not found it on this ‘flavour’ of Forum… yet

I disagree. I dont think high ilvl gear should depend on time spend - instead it should be based on how hard of a content you did.

simply because gear’s a tool and you need tools to do hard content.

Source/difficulty > iL even w/ bonuses

Fair enough i see where your coming from which is why i only made it to were level 10 gear would drop 400 not 410, which is the highest in 8.1, i would also say that when your faction level increases you get harder content to complete that offer better rewards. Im glad you guys get were im coming from however and i understand that rep didn’t always offer gear and there’s reasons to farm rep which i agree with for old world content however it seems rather pointless in bfa as the rewards simply just aren’t worth it which is why i made this post.

Not if everything around you scales along with you rep level.

I think it is changing somewhat in terms of reps with 8.1 but it should be if you completed say all of the alliance factions on your main then your alt should also be exalted. There is no reason to regrind the same reputations over and over again. The same goes for horde mains and horde alts.

Hmm… does that work…? Oooh, so it does?

Indeed and i like what there doing with 8.1 in terms of rep but it still does not massively turn the tables as far as loot goes with it.
